    270 melocotones de la variedad Maycrest pertenecientes a 3 estados de madurez en recolección y almacenados 0,1,2,3, y 4 semanas a 1ºC y 5ºC, fueron ensayados mediante técnicas no destructivas (impacto no destructivo y espectroscopía en el infrarrojo cercano) con la finalidad de estimar la lanosidad (harinosidad en melocotón). Como referencia del grado de lanosidad de cada frutos de emplearon procedimientos mecánicos destructivos. Los datos de impato no destructivo se procesaron mediante análisis discriminante segregando los melocotones en 2 categorías de textura (crujientes, firmes y duros y no crujientes, no firmes y blandos). De la misma manera, los melocotones fueron clasificados en 3 categorías de jugosidad de acuerdo con los valoores de la segunda derivada de la curva de infrarrojo (jugosidad alta, media y baja). Combinando los resultados de impacto e IR, la fruta no crujiente, no firme y blanda y de baja jugosidad fue identificada como lanosa

    Non destructive identification of wolly peache using impact response near infrared spectroscopy

    A procedure which combines impact response and near-infrared sensing in a two-step classification method has been developed for identification of woolly peaches. Two hundred and seventy Maycrest peaches from three ripeness stages at harvest, stored during 0, 1, 2, 3 and 4 weeks at 1 and 5°C, were tested by non-destructive techniques (non-destructive impact and near-infrared spectroscopy) in order to assess woolliness (also known as mealiness in apples). Destructive mechanical tests (Magness–Taylor, confined compression and shear rupture) were used as a reference method to identify woolly fruits. Non-destructive impact data were processed by discriminant analysis to segregate into two texture categories (crispy–firm–hard and non-crispy–non-firm–soft). In the same way, discriminant analysis techniques were used to classify into three juicy categories (low juicy, medium juicy and high juicy), according to the near-infrared second derivative curve. Combining non-destructive impact and near-infrared spectroscopy, not crispy, not firm and soft fruit from the low juicy group were classified as woolly. The percentage of correctly classified fruits in both categories was 80%. The conditions about the experimental factors which enhance woolliness obtained from the destructive procedures were confirmed by the non-destructive procedure

    Precave: Immediate neoadjuvant instillation of chemotherapy for the prevention of non-muscle invasive bladder carcinoma recurrence: A prospective randomized clinical trial protocol

    Introduction and objectives: Recurrence rates for patients presenting with non-muscle invasive bladder carcinoma (NMIBC) can be as high as 60% during the first year after a transurethral resection of bladder tumor (TURBT). Currently, an immediate postoperative instillation of chemotherapy (IPOIC) is recommended for the prevention of recurrences in patients with low to intermediate risk disease. Although in real clinical practice this specific instillation of chemotherapy has many difficulties to be standardized, including its contraindications (suspected or confirmed bladder perforation, wide or extensive resection and, continuous bladder irrigation requirement), which will only make it feasible for around 30% of patients. We propose in this controlled study, to administer an immediate neoadjuvant instillation of chemotherapy (INAIC), which can be applied technically to all patients, no matter the surgical outcomes and compare it with a control group. We expect to find a reduction in the recurrence rate in the experimental group of at least 15%. Methods: We designed a phase IV, randomized, controlled, open label clinical trial. Main inclusion criteria are: patients with a clinical diagnosis of localized, papillary-type bladder cancer (suspected low to intermediate risk) with a disease-free interval of at least 6 months. Eligible patients will be allocated into group A (INAIC plus TURBT) or group B (TURBT) using a computer-generated block randomization sequence/ratio 1:1. Time to recurrence of both groups will be analyzed and compared using Kaplan- Meier estimates, log-rank tests and, Cox-regression. Univariate and multivariate analyzes will be performed to determine factors which influence recurrence.     Protection against Tuberculosis in Eurasian Wild Boar Vaccinated with Heat-Inactivated Mycobacterium bovis

    Tuberculosis (TB) caused by Mycobacterium bovis and closely related members of the Mycobacterium tuberculosis complex continues to affect humans and animals worldwide and its control requires vaccination of wildlife reservoir species such as Eurasian wild boar (Sus scrofa). Vaccination efforts for TB control in wildlife have been based primarily on oral live BCG formulations. However, this is the first report of the use of oral inactivated vaccines for controlling TB in wildlife. In this study, four groups of 5 wild boar each were vaccinated with inactivated M. bovis by the oral and intramuscular routes, vaccinated with oral BCG or left unvaccinated as controls. All groups were later challenged with a field strain of M. bovis. The results of the IFN-gamma response, serum antibody levels, M. bovis culture, TB lesion scores, and the expression of C3 and MUT genes were compared between these four groups. The results suggested that vaccination with heat-inactivated M. bovis or BCG protect wild boar from TB. These results also encouraged testing combinations of BCG and inactivated M. bovis to vaccinate wild boar against TB. Vaccine formulations using heat-inactivated M. bovis for TB control in wildlife would have the advantage of being environmentally safe and more stable under field conditions when compared to live BCG vaccines. The antibody response and MUT expression levels can help differentiating between vaccinated and infected wild boar and as correlates of protective response in vaccinated animals. These results suggest that vaccine studies in free-living wild boar are now possible to reveal the full potential of protecting against TB using oral M. bovis inactivated and BCG vaccines

    The Fourteenth Data Release of the Sloan Digital Sky Survey: First Spectroscopic Data from the extended Baryon Oscillation Spectroscopic Survey and from the second phase of the Apache Point Observatory Galactic Evolution Experiment

    The fourth generation of the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS-IV) has been in operation since July 2014. This paper describes the second data release from this phase, and the fourteenth from SDSS overall (making this, Data Release Fourteen or DR14). This release makes public data taken by SDSS-IV in its first two years of operation (July 2014-2016). Like all previous SDSS releases, DR14 is cumulative, including the most recent reductions and calibrations of all data taken by SDSS since the first phase began operations in 2000. New in DR14 is the first public release of data from the extended Baryon Oscillation Spectroscopic Survey (eBOSS); the first data from the second phase of the Apache Point Observatory (APO) Galactic Evolution Experiment (APOGEE-2), including stellar parameter estimates from an innovative data driven machine learning algorithm known as "The Cannon"; and almost twice as many data cubes from the Mapping Nearby Galaxies at APO (MaNGA) survey as were in the previous release (N = 2812 in total). This paper describes the location and format of the publicly available data from SDSS-IV surveys. We provide references to the important technical papers describing how these data have been taken (both targeting and observation details) and processed for scientific use. The SDSS website (www.sdss.org) has been updated for this release, and provides links to data downloads, as well as tutorials and examples of data use.     Database of spatial distribution of non indigenous species in Spanish marine waters

    Research in marine Spanish waters are focused on several actions to achieve an effectively management on protected areas, with the active participation of the stakeholders and research as basic tools for decision-making. Among these actions, there is one about the knowledge and control on NIS. One of its objectives is the creation of NIS factsheets, which are going to be added to the National Marine Biodiversity Geographical System (GIS) providing complementary information about taxonomic classification, common names, taxonomic synonyms, species illustrations, identification morphological characters, habitat in the native and introduced regions, biological and ecological traits, GenBank DNA sequences, world distribution, first record and evolution in the introduced areas, likely pathways of introduction, effects in the habitats and interaction with native species, and potential management measures to apply. The database will also provide data for (1) the European online platforms, (2) the environmental assessment for the Descriptor 2 (D2-NIS) of the EU Marine Strategy Framework Directive (MSFD), as well as (3) supporting decisions made by stakeholders. It is the result of extensive collaboration among scientist, manager’s and citizen science in the Spanish North-Atlantic, South-Atlantic, Gibraltar Strait-Alboran, Levantine-Balearic and Canary Islands marine divisions, providing an updated overview of the spatial distribution of relevant extended and invasive NIS of recent and established NIS introduced by maritime transport and aquaculture pathways, as well as on cryptogenic or native species in expansion due to the climatic water warming trend

    Efficacy of clozapine versus standard treatment in adult individuals with intellectual disability and treatment-resistant psychosis (CLOZAID): study protocol of a multicenter randomized clinical trial

    BackgroundIntellectual disability (ID) affects approximately 1% of the worldwide population and individuals with ID have a higher comorbidity with mental illness, and specifically psychotic disorders. Unfortunately, among individuals with ID, limited research has been conducted since ID individuals are usually excluded from mental illness epidemiological studies and clinical trials. Here we perform a clinical trial to investigate the effectiveness of clozapine in the treatment of resistant psychosis in individuals with ID. The article highlights the complexity of diagnosing and treating psychopathological alterations associated with ID and advocates for more rigorous research in this field.MethodsA Phase IIB, open-label, randomized, multicenter clinical trial (NCT04529226) is currently ongoing to assess the efficacy of oral clozapine in individuals diagnosed with ID and suffering from treatment-resistant psychosis. We aim to recruit one-hundred and fourteen individuals (N=114) with ID and resistant psychosis, who will be randomized to TAU (treatment as usual) and treatment-with-clozapine conditions. As secondary outcomes, changes in other clinical scales (PANSS and SANS) and the improvement in functionality, assessed through changes in the Euro-QoL-5D-5L were assessed. The main outcome variables will be analyzed using generalized linear mixed models (GLMM), assessing the effects of status variable (TAU vs. Clozapine), time, and the interaction between them.DiscussionThe treatment of resistant psychosis among ID individuals must be directed by empirically supported research. CLOZAID clinical trial may provide relevant information about clinical guidelines to optimally treat adults with ID and treatment-resistant psychosis and the benefits and risks of an early use of clozapine in this underrepresented population in clinical trials.Trial registrationClinicaltrials.gov: NCT04529226.
