Profylactische gastropexie bij de hond: een overzicht van de chirurgische technieken

    Get PDF

Tracheal rupture is an uncommon disease in cats, and is usually iatrogenic. This case report describes a cervical tracheal rupture in a mature male British shorthair. The cat was presented with extreme subcutaneous emphysema and a moderate to severe pneumothorax, pneumomediastinum and pneumoretroperitoneum, but did not show any signs of dyspnea and/or hypoxia. The cat had a recent history of endotracheal intubation. The diagnosis was made with tracheoscopy, and the tracheal rupture was surgically treated. No clinical complications were exhibited by the patient during the hospitalization. After four days, the patient was discharged, and no further complaints were reported during the medical control four months later

Cutaan mastocytoom bij een jack russell terriër behandeld met neoadjuvante corticosteroïden gevolgd door een radicale chirurgische excisie

A 14-year-old neutered female Jack Russell terrier was presented with a history over the past several years of a freely movable subcutaneous mass on the right lateral thigh, that was considered to be a lipoma. Shortly before presentation, a mastectomy had been performed. On histopathological examination of the inguinal lymph node excised during the procedure, numerous mast cells were identified. Fine-needle aspirates of the mass on the thigh were collected, and cytology confirmed that it was not a lipoma but a mastocytoma. After staging the tumor, it was treated with neoadjuvant prednisolon, followed by the surgical removal of the mass with radical margins. The defect was closed with a transposition flap. Histopathology and immunohistochemistry indicated a grade-II mastocytoma without negative prognostic factors. The dog recovered well after surgery and 347 days after treatment, there were no signs of recurrence

Twee gevallen van peritoneopericardiale hernia diafragmatica bij de kat

Peritoneopericardial diaphragmatic hernia (PPDH) is a common incidental finding in cats during echocardiography or at thoracic radiographs. Two cases of PPDH in cats with clinical signs are discussed. The first cat was presented with inspiratory dyspnea secondary to herniation of omentum, pylorus, liver and gallbladder within the pericardial space. The presentation of the second case was more exceptional. The cat was presented with intermittent tachycardia. During the surgical correction of the PPDH, the myocardium of the left ventricle was damaged. The cat was euthanized. Histopathologic results of the heart, diaphragm and liver showed that the epicard and the capsule of the liver could not be differentiated and formed a tightly connective tissue layer

Production of He-4 and (4) in Pb-Pb collisions at root(NN)-N-S=2.76 TeV at the LHC

Results on the production of He-4 and (4) nuclei in Pb-Pb collisions at root(NN)-N-S = 2.76 TeV in the rapidity range vertical bar y vertical bar <1, using the ALICE detector, are presented in this paper. The rapidity densities corresponding to 0-10% central events are found to be dN/dy4(He) = (0.8 +/- 0.4 (stat) +/- 0.3 (syst)) x 10(-6) and dN/dy4 = (1.1 +/- 0.4 (stat) +/- 0.2 (syst)) x 10(-6), respectively. This is in agreement with the statistical thermal model expectation assuming the same chemical freeze-out temperature (T-chem = 156 MeV) as for light hadrons. The measured ratio of (4)/He-4 is 1.4 +/- 0.8 (stat) +/- 0.5 (syst). (C) 2018 Published by Elsevier B.V.Peer reviewe

Tongue entrapment by chew toys in two dogs

    No full text
Compression of a chew toy during regular play activity can create a vacuum effect eventually causing entrapment of oral tissues. Two cases of tongue entrapment are described, which resulted in severe tissue swelling, oedema and vascular obstruction. In the first dog, the toy was removed by the veterinary surgeon under general anaesthesia. Damage to the tongue proved to be reversible and the dog recovered uneventfully. In the second patient, the toy was forcefully removed by the owner. The resulting tongue necrosis required partial amputation. Treatment of this emergency condition consists of elimination of the negative pressure inside the toy by piercing it or even by insufflation of positive pressure inside the toy, and of an atraumatic manipulation to prevent further damage to the compromised tissues

Formation of surfactant free microemulsions in the ternary system water/eugenol/ethanol

This works analyzes the aggregation phenomena occurring in a ternary mixture formed by two solventmutually immiscible, water and eugenol, and a third solvent that can act as co-solvent with both, thusfulfilling the requirements for the appearance of the ?pre-Ouzo? effect. The combination of visual obser-vation of the samples and GC?MS allows us to draw a ternary phase diagram for the system. DynamicLight Scattering (DLS) has provided information on the bulk aggregation occurring in the system, and alsohas given good insights in the destabilization of the pseudo-one phase region. The DLS measurementsperformed in different paths of the phase diagram have allowed us to establish a critical compositionfor destabilization of the one phase region, having equal content of the components. Stable microemul-sions can be used for solubilization of a model insecticide, opening a new route for the fabrication ofbiosustainable formulations for insecticides.Fil: Lucia, Alejandro. Outcome and Prognostic Factors for Canine Splenic Lymphoma Treated by Splenectomy (1995-2011) : A VSSO Retrospective Study

    No full text
OBJECTIVE: To assess the outcome of canine splenic lymphoma treated with splenectomy and to evaluate prognostic factors, including involvement of other sites, adjuvant chemotherapy, and the effect of World Health Organization (WHO) histological classification of canine malignant lymphoma. DESIGN: Multi-institutional, retrospective study. ANIMALS: Client-owned dogs (n = 28). METHODS: Medical records (1995-2011) of dogs with a histological diagnosis of splenic lymphoma and treated by splenectomy submitted by Veterinary Society of Surgical Oncology members were reviewed. Included were dogs treated with or without adjuvant therapy. Overall survival, disease-free interval, and cause of death were determined. Prognostic factors and the WHO histological classification of canine malignant lymphoma were evaluated with respect to outcome. RESULTS: Dogs with splenic lymphoma treated by splenectomy had a 1-year survival rate of 58.8%, after which no animals died of their disease. B cell lymphoma held a better prognosis for survival than other variants of splenic lymphoma. Marginal zone lymphoma and mantle cell lymphoma were the most common B cell lymphoma subtypes in our study. Hemoabdomen and clinical signs related to splenic lymphoma, including abdominal distention, lethargy, and anorexia, were poor prognostic indicators, whereas disease confined to the spleen was a positive prognostic indicator. Pre- or postoperative adjuvant chemotherapy did not provide a survival benefit. CONCLUSION: Based on our sample population, splenectomy alone was an effective treatment for splenic lymphoma in cases with disease confined to the spleen. Chemotherapy may not improve survival in cases of lymphoma restricted to the spleen
