The objective was to test the hypothesis that there is variation of some protein components, biochemical and glucose from the blood of goats in the postpartum period. ElevenBôer goats were used to evaluate the serum following variables: total protein (TP), albumin, α-globulin, β-globulin, γ-globulin, immunoglobulin G (IgG), aspartate (AST), alkaline phosphatase (ALP), gamma-glutamyltransferase (GGT), creatinine, urea and glucose. These components were determined in moments zero (immediately after delivery), two, seven, 15, 30 and 75 days postpartum. The β-globulin, IgG, creatinine and urea from the goats did not show significant variations, the blood glucose at time zero was greater than the baseline values due to physiological stimulation of glycogenesis determined by the increase of cortisol in delivery. The blood constituents of goats showed variations in the period to 75 days postpartum as a result physiological causes related to delivery and postpartum.

This work is on the Physics of the B Factories. Part A of this book contains a brief description of the SLAC and KEK B Factories as well as their detectors, BaBar and Belle, and data taking related issues. Part B discusses tools and methods used by the experiments in order to obtain results. The results themselves can be found in Part C

The aims of this study was to determine the absorption period of colostrum macromolecules by intestinal wall of goat kids fed bovine or caprine colostrum, and evaluate the variation of biochemistry, blood gas and immunologic parameters of goats and kids at post-partum period until 75 days. To accomplish these objectives the serum concentrations of total protein (refractometry), electrophoretic proteins fractions separation (acetate cellulose electrophoresis), bovine and caprine immunoglobulin G (IgG) by radial immunodiffusion assay, biochemicals assays for aspartateaminotransferase (AST), alkaline phosphatase (ALP), gammaglutamyltransferase (GGT), creatinine and urea, hole blood assays for blood gas parameters and glycemia were determined at zero, two, seven, 15, 30 and 75 days postpartum. Kids which fed bovine colostrum until 12 hours after birth have acquired regular immunoglobulins titres. After 22 hours postpartum kids didn’t presented adequate absorption of colostrum macromolecules, being classified as failure of passive immunity transference. Although all kids presented bovine IgG at 75 days after birth, their low concentrations doesn’t provide adequate protection. Kids fed caprine colostrum presented higher concentrations of IgG compared to those fed bovine colostrum. At two days after birth GGT concentration correlated significantly with IgG, so it can be used as passive immunity predictor. Goats and kids had variations on protein, biochemical and blood gas variables until 75 days postpartum, but with physiological and/or nutritional causes, these findings had little clinical relevance for the animals.Fundação de Amparo à Pesquisa do Estado de São Paulo (FAPESP

Endotoxins are often found in high concentration in the peritoneal fluid from horses with acute gastrointestinal disease and blood of septicemic foals. The conditions mentioned earlier can lead to inflammatory processes and cause changes in the concentrations of acute phase proteins. The objectives of this study were to determine by means of polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (SDS-PAGE), the concentrations of acute phase proteins (transferrin, ceruloplasmin, albumin, haptoglobin and acid glycoprotein) in serum and peritoneal fluid of horses submitted to experimental endotoxemia and evaluate the possible effects of the administration of lidocaine on the production of these proteins after intraperitoneal injection of endotoxin in these animals. To this end, 12 animals were distributed in two groups, control which was treated with 0.9% NaCl solution and the experimental which was treated with continuous infusion for 6 hours of 2% lidocaine solution. It is concluded that in this experimental model the intraperitoneal administration of endotoxin caused an increase in the concentrations of peritoneal transferrin, ceruloplasmin and haptoglobin in the control group, of albumin in both groups, and the acid glycoprotein in the group treated with infusion of lidocaine. However, the absence of changes in the concentrations of serum ceruloplasmin, serum albumin, haptoglobin and acidic glycoprotein indicate that the amount of the circulatory endotoxin was not enough to alter serum concentrations of these proteins. The continuous infusion of lidocaine interfered in peritoneal acute phase proteins values and had an anti-endotoxemic effectFundação de Amparo à Pesquisa do Estado de São Paulo (FAPESP
