Tensor meson exchange at low energies
We complete the analysis of meson resonance contributions to chiral
low-energy constants of O(p^4) by including all quark-antiquark bound states
with orbital angular momentum less or equal to one. Different tensor meson
Lagrangians used in previous work are shown to produce the same final results
for the low-energy constants once QCD short-distance constraints are properly
implemented. We also discuss the possible relevance of axial-vector mesons with

Chiral Dynamics and Heavy Quark Symmetry in a Toy Field Theoretic Model
We study a solvable QCD--like toy theory, a generalization of the
Nambu--Jona-Lasinio model, which implements chiral symmetries of light quarks
and heavy quark symmetry. The chiral symmetric and chiral broken phases can be
dynamically tuned. This implies a parity doubled heavy--light meson system,
corresponding to a multiplet and a heavy spin
multiplet. Consequently the mass difference of the two multiplets is given by a
Goldberger--Treiman relation and is found to be small. The Isgur--Wise
function, , the decay constant, , and other observables are

TBA, NLO Luscher correction, and double wrapping in twisted AdS/CFT
The ground-state energy of integrably-twisted theories is analyzed in finite
volume. We derive the leading and next-to-leading order (NLO) L\"uscher-type
corrections for large volumes of the vacuum energy for integrable theories with
twisted boundary conditions and twisted S-matrix. We then derive the twisted
thermodynamic Bethe ansatz (TBA) equations to describe exactly the ground
state, from which we obtain an untwisted Y-system. The two approaches are
compared by expanding the TBA equations to NLO, and exact agreement is found.
We give explicit results for the O(4) model and for the three-parameter family
of -deformed (non-supersymmetric) planar AdS/CFT model, where the
ground-state energy can be nontrivial and can acquire finite-size corrections.
The NLO corrections, which correspond to double-wrapping diagrams, are

Complete Bethe Ansatz solution of the open spin-s XXZ chain with general integrable boundary terms
We consider the open spin-s XXZ quantum spin chain with N sites and general
integrable boundary terms for generic values of the bulk anisotropy parameter,
and for values of the boundary parameters which satisfy a certain constraint.
We derive two sets of Bethe Ansatz equations, and find numerical evidence that
together they give the complete set of eigenvalues of the transfer
matrix. For the case s=1, we explicitly determine the Hamiltonian, and find an

Effects of previous carbohydrate supplementation on muscular fatigue: double-blind, randomized, placebo-controlled crossover study
Abstract AIMS The aim of this study was to examine the effects of previous carbohydrate supplementation on high-volume resistance exercise performance METHODS Twenty males physically independent adults aged ≥18 years participated in a double-blind randomized placebo-controlled crossover study. Sixty minutes before the experimental protocol, each participant ingested 0,6 g.kg of body mass-1 of carbohydrate supplementation or placebo. Maximum voluntary isometric contraction tests were performed before and after the dynamic fatigue induction protocol consisting of 10 sets of 8 repetitions of right leg knee extensors at 120º s-1. RESULTS Lower decrement of the isometric peak torque (p<0,001) and of the rate of torque development (p<0,001) was observed in carbohydrate supplementation after the dynamic protocol. Both concentric and eccentric peak torque differed significantly (p<0,001) between carbohydrate supplementation and placebo treatments from the second set, although the slope of the force-repetitions curve was not different between them. Additionally, the carbohydrate supplementation resulted in a lower session rating of perceived exertion (p<0,05). CONCLUSIONS Previous carbohydrate supplementation attenuates muscle fatigue and internal load exercise in a high-volume isokinetic leg protocol
The Muon Anomalous Magnetic Moment: A Harbinger For "New Physics"
QED, Hadronic, and Electroweak Standard Model contributions to the muon
anomalous magnetic moment, a_mu = (g_mu-2)/2, and their theoretical
uncertainties are scrutinized. The status and implications of the recently
reported 2.6 sigma experiment vs.theory deviation a_mu^{exp}-a_mu^{SM} =
426(165) times 10^{-11} are discussed. Possible explanations due to
supersymmetric loop effects with m_{SUSY} \simeq 55 sqrt{tan beta} GeV,
radiative mass mechanisms at the 1--2 TeV scale and other ``New Physics''

Determination of |Vcb| using the semileptonic decay \bar{B}^0 --> D^{*+}e^-\bar{\nu}
We present a measurement of the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa (CKM) matrix
element |Vcb| using a 10.2 fb^{-1} data sample recorded at the \Upsilon(4S)
resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric e^+e^- storage ring.
By extrapolating the differential decay width of the \bar{B}^0 -->
D^{*+}e^-\bar{\nu} decay to the kinematic limit at which the D^{*+} is at rest
with respect to the \bar{B}^0, we extract the product of |Vcb| with the
normalization of the decay form factor F(1), |Vcb |F(1)=
(3.54+/-0.19+/-0.18)x10^{-2}, where the first error is statistical and the
second is systematic. A value of |Vcb| = (3.88+/-0.21+/-0.20+/-0.19)x10^{-2} is
obtained using a theoretical calculation of F(1), where the third error is due
to the theoretical uncertainty in the value of F(1). The branching fraction
B(\bar{B}^0 --> D^{*+}e^-\bar{\nu}) is measured to be

The Ninth Data Release of the Sloan Digital Sky Survey: First Spectroscopic Data from the SDSS-III Baryon Oscillation Spectroscopic Survey
The Sloan Digital Sky Survey III (SDSS-III) presents the first spectroscopic
data from the Baryon Oscillation Spectroscopic Survey (BOSS). This ninth data
release (DR9) of the SDSS project includes 535,995 new galaxy spectra (median
z=0.52), 102,100 new quasar spectra (median z=2.32), and 90,897 new stellar
spectra, along with the data presented in previous data releases. These spectra
were obtained with the new BOSS spectrograph and were taken between 2009
December and 2011 July. In addition, the stellar parameters pipeline, which
determines radial velocities, surface temperatures, surface gravities, and
metallicities of stars, has been updated and refined with improvements in
temperature estimates for stars with T_eff<5000 K and in metallicity estimates
for stars with [Fe/H]>-0.5. DR9 includes new stellar parameters for all stars
presented in DR8, including stars from SDSS-I and II, as well as those observed
as part of the SDSS-III Sloan Extension for Galactic Understanding and
Exploration-2 (SEGUE-2).
The astrometry error introduced in the DR8 imaging catalogs has been
corrected in the DR9 data products. The next data release for SDSS-III will be
in Summer 2013, which will present the first data from the Apache Point
Observatory Galactic Evolution Experiment (APOGEE) along with another year of

The Baryon Oscillation Spectroscopic Survey of SDSS-III
The Baryon Oscillation Spectroscopic Survey (BOSS) is designed to measure the
scale of baryon acoustic oscillations (BAO) in the clustering of matter over a
larger volume than the combined efforts of all previous spectroscopic surveys
of large scale structure. BOSS uses 1.5 million luminous galaxies as faint as
i=19.9 over 10,000 square degrees to measure BAO to redshifts z<0.7.
Observations of neutral hydrogen in the Lyman alpha forest in more than 150,000
quasar spectra (g<22) will constrain BAO over the redshift range 2.15<z<3.5.
Early results from BOSS include the first detection of the large-scale
three-dimensional clustering of the Lyman alpha forest and a strong detection
from the Data Release 9 data set of the BAO in the clustering of massive
galaxies at an effective redshift z = 0.57. We project that BOSS will yield
measurements of the angular diameter distance D_A to an accuracy of 1.0% at
redshifts z=0.3 and z=0.57 and measurements of H(z) to 1.8% and 1.7% at the
same redshifts. Forecasts for Lyman alpha forest constraints predict a
measurement of an overall dilation factor that scales the highly degenerate
D_A(z) and H^{-1}(z) parameters to an accuracy of 1.9% at z~2.5 when the survey

Analyticity, Shapes of Semileptonic Form Factors, and B to pi l nu
We give a pedagogical discussion of the physics underlying dispersion
relation-derived parameterizations of form factors describing B -> pi l nu and
B -> D l nu. Moments of the dispersion relations are shown to provide
substantially tighter constraints on the f_+ (t) form factor describing B -> pi
l nu than the unweighted dispersion relation alone. Heavy quark spin symmetry
relations between the B -> pi l nu and B^* -> pi l nu form factors enables such
