The aim of this study was to determine the influence of the specific training program on the kinematic parameters of made jump shots in basketball. Participants were 31 basketball players, aged 15.32±0.65. All participants trained according to a specific training program for 10 weeks. Data obtained at the initial and final measurements were processed by nonparametric statistics. Data processing was carried out in the direction of determining the difference in kinematic parameters within the group between the initial and final measurements. After that, the level of impact of a specific training program on the mentioned parameters was determined. The obtained results indicated that there are differences between initial and final measurements in eight out of 10 (80%) kinematic parameters and the influence of the specific training program existed in the same eight (80%) kinematic parameters

This paper studies the compliance of the fixture-workpiece system. Workpiece clamping case with two types of clamping elements is considered. The first type of clamping element is standard, with flat top, while the second one is specially designed, with round cutting insert. Analyzed was the case of workpiece clamping using small forces, whereby the deformations in the workpiece/clamping element interface are predominantly on the order of magnitude of roughness height. A comparative analysis of dynamic behaviour of both types of clamping elements is also presented. In comparison with its standard counterpart, the specially designed clamping element with round cutting insert has superior clamping performance regarding both tangential load capacity and compliance

Films based on carrageenan, alginate and poloxamer 407 have been formulated with the main aim to apply prepared formulations in wound healing process. The formulated films were loaded with diclofenac, an anti-inflammatory drug, as well as diclofenac and curcumin, as multipurpose drug, in order to enhance encapsulation and achieve controlled release of these low bioavailable compounds. The obtained data demonstrated improved drugs bioavailability (encapsulation efficiency higher than 90%), with achieved high, cumulative in vitro release percentages (90.10% for diclofenac; 89.85% for curcumin and 95.61% for diclofenac in mixture-incorporated films).. The results obtained using theoretical models suggested that curcumin establish stronger, primarily dispersion interactions with carrier, in comparison with diclofenac. Curcumin and diclofenac-loaded films showed a great antibacterial activity against Gram-positive bacteria strains (Bacillus subtilis and Staphylococcus aureus, inhibition zone 16.67 mm and 13.67 mm, respectively), and in vitro and in vivo studies indicated that curcumin- and diclofenac-incorporated polymer films have a great tendency, as a new transdermal dressing, to heal wounds, because diclofenac can target the inflammatory phase and reduce pain, whereas curcumin can enhance and promote wound healing process

Mortality and pulmonary complications in patients undergoing surgery with perioperative SARS-CoV-2 infection: an international cohort study

Background: The impact of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) on postoperative recovery needs to be understood to inform clinical decision making during and after the COVID-19 pandemic. This study reports 30-day mortality and pulmonary complication rates in patients with perioperative SARS-CoV-2 infection. Methods: This international, multicentre, cohort study at 235 hospitals in 24 countries included all patients undergoing surgery who had SARS-CoV-2 infection confirmed within 7 days before or 30 days after surgery. The primary outcome measure was 30-day postoperative mortality and was assessed in all enrolled patients. The main secondary outcome measure was pulmonary complications, defined as pneumonia, acute respiratory distress syndrome, or unexpected postoperative ventilation. Findings: This analysis includes 1128 patients who had surgery between Jan 1 and March 31, 2020, of whom 835 (74·0%) had emergency surgery and 280 (24·8%) had elective surgery. SARS-CoV-2 infection was confirmed preoperatively in 294 (26·1%) patients. 30-day mortality was 23·8% (268 of 1128). Pulmonary complications occurred in 577 (51·2%) of 1128 patients; 30-day mortality in these patients was 38·0% (219 of 577), accounting for 81·7% (219 of 268) of all deaths. In adjusted analyses, 30-day mortality was associated with male sex (odds ratio 1·75 [95% CI 1·28–2·40], p\textless0·0001), age 70 years or older versus younger than 70 years (2·30 [1·65–3·22], p\textless0·0001), American Society of Anesthesiologists grades 3–5 versus grades 1–2 (2·35 [1·57–3·53], p\textless0·0001), malignant versus benign or obstetric diagnosis (1·55 [1·01–2·39], p=0·046), emergency versus elective surgery (1·67 [1·06–2·63], p=0·026), and major versus minor surgery (1·52 [1·01–2·31], p=0·047). Interpretation: Postoperative pulmonary complications occur in half of patients with perioperative SARS-CoV-2 infection and are associated with high mortality. Thresholds for surgery during the COVID-19 pandemic should be higher than during normal practice, particularly in men aged 70 years and older. Consideration should be given for postponing non-urgent procedures and promoting non-operative treatment to delay or avoid the need for surgery. The influence of the non-selective blocker of the muscarinic receptors, namely of the atropine (1,7 x10-10 - 5x10-7). upon thependulousmovements of the proximal and of the distal colon of the rabbit was studied. In the correct proportion to the concentration the atropine reduces the amplitude of both the proximal (r=0,98; P<0,001) and of the distal colon (r= 0,97; P < 0,001). On the basis of the ED50 values - that amount to 7,7 ± 0,03 x 10-7 M for the proximal colon and 3,5 ± 0,06 x 10-5 M for the distal colon, the atropine recluces for twenty times the amplitude of the pendulousmovements of the rabbit's distal colon. Likewise, it reduces for dozen times the frequency of the pendulous movements of the distal colon (ED50 = 5 ± 0,02 x 10-6M) with respect to the proximal one (ED50 = 4,7 ± 0,06 x I0-5M). The atropine does not change the tone of the proximal colon (average relaxation is 5,47 ± 2,32 %) while it induces the concentrically-dependent relaxation of the distal colon (maximal relaxation amounts to 38.03 + 8,34). The ED50 values for the atropine while affecting the distal colon tone is 1,7 ± 0,03 x 10-6M

THE EFFECTS OF VERAPAMIL ON SODIUM AND POTASSIUM SERUM CONCENTRATION AND HE COLORING MORPHOLOGICAL CHANGES IN EXPERIMENTAL GENTAMICIN NEPHROTOXICITY

    No full text
The effects of verapamil on glomerular changes and tubular system in rats were analyzed in gentamicin nephrotoxicity. Epithel desquamation of proximal tubules and degenerative changes in glomerular was detected in animals treated by gentamicin (100 mg/kg body mass/24h). In animals, treated by gentamicin, the decreasing of sodium and potassium appeared in comparison to the control group. The combination of verapamil and gentamicin resulted in lower kidney damage than gentamicin itself, so the level of sodium concentration in serum and potassium concentration was higher in the third experimental group. Nephron morphological changes were lower by simultaneous treatment of gentamicin and verapamil. Consequently, the obtaind results support hypothesis that verapamil is a protective factor in gentamicin nephrotoxicity
