Apps targeting anorexia nervosa in young people: a systematic review of active ingredients
Evaluating the presence of behavior change techniques (BCTs) in mHealth apps could be used to better understand what âactive ingredientsâ contribute to outcomes. Despite the early onset of Anorexia Nervosa (AN) and the increasing use of mobile apps to seek mental healthcare among young people, BCTs underpinning mHealth apps targeting AN have never been systematically examined. This review systematically identified and analyzed BCTs underpinning apps targeted at reducing AN in young people in an attempt to understand their active components. Apps were searched and screened in Apple Store and Google Play. Six apps that met the inclusion criteria and were coded by trained researchers against the BCT Taxonomy V1. Overall, 22 of 93 possible BCTs were identified. The most common were âInformation about health consequences,â âSocial support (unspecified),â and âInformation about antecedentsâ. Identified BCTs suggested potential overlaps with traditional clinical treatments for AN, such as cognitive behavioral therapy and family-based therapy. Selfâother distinction and borderline personality disorder features: Evidence for egocentric and altercentric bias in a selfâother facial morphing task
Selfâother distinction (SOD) refers to the ability to distinguish oneâs own body, actions, and mental representations from those of others. Problems with SOD are considered to be a key feature of borderline personality disorder (BPD). However, empirical studies on SOD in BPD are scarce. Here, we present a study providing preliminary support for the usefulness and validity of a selfâother facial morphing task to capture the capacity for SOD in a sample of nonclinical participants high (n = 30) and low (n = 32) in BPD features. Participants had to watch a video sequence in which their own face was gradually morphed into the face of an unfamiliar other (self-to-other) or vice versa (other-to-self), requiring them to indicate at which point they judged the morph to look more like the target face than the starting face. Consistent with predictions, results showed that participants in the high-BPD group judged the morph to look like themselves for longer in the self-to-other direction (suggestive of egocentric bias), but only with a relatively more attractive target face. In the other-to-self direction, the high-BPD group had more difficulty recognizing their own face (i.e., an altercentric bias), but this time only with the relatively less attractive face. Further research is needed to replicate these findings in clinical samples, but overall they suggest that the current task might be suited to investigate SOD problems in BPD. The Chemical Form of Metal Species Released from Corroded Taper Junctions of Hip Implants: Synchrotron Analysis of Patient Tissue
The mechanisms of metal release from the articulation at the head cup bearing and the tapered junctions of orthopaedic hip implants are known to differ and the debris generated varies in size, shape and volume. Significantly less metal is lost from the taper junction between Cobalt-Chromium-Molybdenum (CoCrMo) and Titanium (Ti) components (fretting-corrosion dominant mechanism), when compared to the CoCrMo bearing surfaces (wear-corrosion dominant mechanism). Corrosion particles from the taper junction can lead to Adverse Reactions to Metal Debris (ARMD) similar to those seen with CoCrMo bearings. We used synchrotron methods to understand the modes underlying clinically significant tissue reactions to Co, Cr and Ti by analysing viable peri-prosthetic tissue. Cr was present as Cr2O3 in the corroded group in addition to CrPO4 found in the metal-on-metal (MoM) group. Interestingly, Ti was present as TiO2 in an amorphous rather than rutile or anatase physical form. The metal species were co-localized in the same micron-scale particles as result of corrosion processes and in one cell type, the phagocytes. This work gives new insights into the degradation products from metal devices as well as guidance for toxicological studies in humans
Extensive Variation in Chromatin States Across Humans
The majority of disease-associated variants lie outside protein-coding regions, suggesting a link between variation in regulatory regions and disease predisposition. We studied differences in chromatin states using five histone modifications, cohesin, and CTCF in lymphoblastoid lines from 19 individuals of diverse ancestry. We found extensive signal variation in regulatory regions, which often switch between active and repressed states across individuals. Enhancer activity is particularly diverse among individuals, whereas gene expression remains relatively stable. Chromatin variability shows genetic inheritance in trios, correlates with genetic variation and population divergence, and is associated with disruptions of transcription factor binding motifs. Overall, our results provide insights into chromatin variation among humans
Measurements of Higgs boson production and couplings in diboson final states with the ATLAS detector at the LHC
Measurements are presented of production properties and couplings of the recently discovered Higgs boson using the decays into boson pairs, H âÎł Îł, H â Z Zâ â4l and H âW Wâ âlÎœlÎœ. The results are based on the complete pp collision data sample recorded by the ATLAS experiment at the CERN Large Hadron Collider at centre-of-mass energies of âs = 7 TeV and âs = 8 TeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of about 25 fbâ1. Evidence for Higgs boson production through vector-boson fusion is reported. Results of combined ïŹts probing Higgs boson couplings to fermions and bosons, as well as anomalous contributions to loop-induced production and decay modes, are presented. All measurements are consistent with expectations for the Standard Model Higgs boson
