Enantiomer discrimination in absorption spectroscopy and in voltammetry: highlighting fascinating similarities and connections
Absorption spectroscopy and voltammetry, of known analogies and connections, share even more fascinating similarities and connections at a higher complexity level, when "upgrading" them with the ability to discriminate between enantiomers by chiral selector implementation. In both techniques either "molecular" selectors or "electromagnetic" ones (L- versus Rcircularly polarized light components for spectroscopy, ccversus b-spin electrons for voltammetry) can be considered; moreover, external magnetic field application can replace a truly chiral actor. A tentative schematization is provided. Analogies and connections also concern molecular features of the enantiodiscrimination actors. In both techniques outstanding performances are obtained with inherently chiral molecules, in which a conjugated backbone with tailored torsion is source of chirality as well as spectroscopic and electrochemical activity, in an attractive three-fold interconnection. Their outstanding effects can be justified by a combination of chemical and electromagnetic properties (excellent potential molecular spin filters), a fascinating challenge for future developments
Chiral Recognition: A Spin-Driven Process in Chiral Oligothiophene. A Chiral-Induced Spin Selectivity (CISS) Effect Manifestation
In this paper it is experimentally demonstrated that the electron-spin/molecular-handedness interaction plays a fundamental role in the chiral recognition process. This conclusion is inferred comparing current versus potential (I-V) curves recorded using chiral electrode surfaces, which are obtained via chemisorption of an enantiopure thiophene derivative: 3,3 & PRIME;-bibenzothiophene core functionalized with 2,2 & PRIME;-bithiophene wings (BT2T4). The chiral recognition capability of these chiral-electrodes is probed via cyclic voltammetry measurements, where, Ag nanoparticles (AgNPs) capped with enantiopure BT2T4 (BT2T4@AgNP) are used as the chiral redox probe. Then, the interface handedness is explored by recording spin-polarized I-V curves in spin-dependent electrochemistry (SDE) and magnetic-conductive atomic force microscopy (mc-AFM) experiments. The quality of the interfaces is thoroughly cross-checked using X-ray photoemission spectroscopy, Raman, electrodesorption measurements, which further substantiate the metal(electrode)-sulfur(thiophene) central role in the chemisorption process. Spin-polarization values of about 15% and 30% are obtained in the case of SDE and mc-AFM experiments, respectively. It is demonstrated that probing the handedness of a chiral system (here a chiral-electrode-surface/solution interface) by using a spin-polarized current, allows for chiral recognition. This conclusion is inferred by tight comparison with cyclic voltammetry results, where the handedness of the "chiral-electrode-surface/solution interface" is recognized by using an enantiopure chiral redox couple.imag

Measurement of CP-violation asymmetries in D0 to Ks pi+ pi-
We report a measurement of time-integrated CP-violation asymmetries in the
resonant substructure of the three-body decay D0 to Ks pi+ pi- using CDF II
data corresponding to 6.0 invfb of integrated luminosity from Tevatron ppbar
collisions at sqrt(s) = 1.96 TeV. The charm mesons used in this analysis come
from D*+(2010) to D0 pi+ and D*-(2010) to D0bar pi-, where the production
flavor of the charm meson is determined by the charge of the accompanying pion.
We apply a Dalitz-amplitude analysis for the description of the dynamic decay
structure and use two complementary approaches, namely a full Dalitz-plot fit
employing the isobar model for the contributing resonances and a
model-independent bin-by-bin comparison of the D0 and D0bar Dalitz plots. We
find no CP-violation effects and measure an asymmetry of ACP = (-0.05 +- 0.57
(stat) +- 0.54 (syst))% for the overall integrated CP-violation asymmetry,
consistent with the standard model prediction.Comment: 15 page
Measurement of the Forward-Backward Asymmetry in the B -> K(*) mu+ mu- Decay and First Observation of the Bs -> phi mu+ mu- Decay
We reconstruct the rare decays , , and in a data sample
corresponding to collected in collisions at
by the CDF II detector at the Fermilab Tevatron
Collider. Using and decays we report the branching ratios. In addition, we report
the measurement of the differential branching ratio and the muon
forward-backward asymmetry in the and decay modes, and the
longitudinal polarization in the decay mode with respect to the squared
dimuon mass. These are consistent with the theoretical prediction from the
standard model, and most recent determinations from other experiments and of
comparable accuracy. We also report the first observation of the {\mathcal{B}}(B^0_s \to
\phi\mu^+\mu^-) = [1.44 \pm 0.33 \pm 0.46] \times 10^{-6}27 \pm 6B^0_s$ decay observed.Comment: 7 pages, 2 figures, 3 tables. Submitted to Phys. Rev. Let
Search for a New Heavy Gauge Boson Wprime with Electron + missing ET Event Signature in ppbar collisions at sqrt(s)=1.96 TeV
We present a search for a new heavy charged vector boson decaying
to an electron-neutrino pair in collisions at a center-of-mass
energy of 1.96\unit{TeV}. The data were collected with the CDF II detector
and correspond to an integrated luminosity of 5.3\unit{fb}^{-1}. No
significant excess above the standard model expectation is observed and we set
upper limits on . Assuming standard
model couplings to fermions and the neutrino from the boson decay to
be light, we exclude a boson with mass less than
1.12\unit{TeV/}c^2 at the 95\unit{%} confidence level.Comment: 7 pages, 2 figures Submitted to PR
Measurements of the properties of Lambda_c(2595), Lambda_c(2625), Sigma_c(2455), and Sigma_c(2520) baryons
We report measurements of the resonance properties of Lambda_c(2595)+ and
Lambda_c(2625)+ baryons in their decays to Lambda_c+ pi+ pi- as well as
Sigma_c(2455)++,0 and Sigma_c(2520)++,0 baryons in their decays to Lambda_c+
pi+/- final states. These measurements are performed using data corresponding
to 5.2/fb of integrated luminosity from ppbar collisions at sqrt(s) = 1.96 TeV,
collected with the CDF II detector at the Fermilab Tevatron. Exploiting the
largest available charmed baryon sample, we measure masses and decay widths
with uncertainties comparable to the world averages for Sigma_c states, and
significantly smaller uncertainties than the world averages for excited
Lambda_c+ states.Comment: added one reference and one table, changed order of figures, 17

Study of multi-muon events produced in p\bar{p} interactions at \sqrt{s}=1.96 TeV
68 pages, 46 figures, 11 tables. Submitted to Phys. Rev. D. Removed typos from the authors' listWe report the results of a study of multi-muon events produced at the Fermilab Tevatron collider and acquired with the CDF II detector using a dedicated dimuon trigger. The production cross section and kinematics of events in which both muon candidates are produced inside the beam pipe of radius 1.5 cm are successfully modeled by known processes which include heavy flavor production. In contrast, we are presently unable to fully account for the number and properties of the remaining events, in which at least one muon candidate is produced outside of the beam pipe, in terms of the same understanding of the CDF II detector, trigger, and event reconstruction.Peer reviewe
Measurement of b hadron lifetimes in exclusive decays containing a J/psi in p-pbar collisions at sqrt(s)=1.96TeV
We report on a measurement of -hadron lifetimes in the fully reconstructed
decay modes B^+ -->J/Psi K+, B^0 --> J/Psi K*, B^0 --> J/Psi Ks, and Lambda_b
--> J/Psi Lambda using data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 4.3
, collected by the CDF II detector at the Fermilab Tevatron. The
measured lifetimes are B^+ = , B^0 = and Lambda_b = . The lifetime ratios are B^+/B^0 = and Lambda_b/B^0 = . These are the most precise determinations
of these quantities from a single experiment.Comment: revised version. accepted for PRL publicatio
Measurement of the B0s →J/ψη lifetime
Using a data set corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 3 fb−1, collected by the LHCb experiment in pp collisions at centre-of-mass energies of 7 and 8 TeV, the effective lifetime in the Bs0→J/ψη decay mode, τeff, is measured to be
τeff=1.479±0.034 (stat)±0.011 (syst) ps. Assuming CP conservation, τeff corresponds to the lifetime of the light Bs0 mass eigenstate. This is the first measurement of the effective lifetime in this decay mode
