Hard-deadline Constrained Workflows Scheduling Using Metaheuristic Algorithms

    Get PDF
AbstractAn efficient scheduling is the essential part of complex scientific applications processing in computational distributed environments. The computational complexity comes as from environment heterogeneity as from the application structure that usually is represented as a workflow which contains different linked tasks. A lot of well-known techniques were proposed by different scientific groups. The most popular of them are based on greedy list-based heuristics or evolutionary metaheuristics. In this paper we investigate the applicability of previously developed metaheuristic algorithm – coevolutional genetic algorithm (CGA) for scheduling series of workflows with hard deadlines constraints

SPECT-CT localization of axillary sentinel lymph nodes for radiotherapy of early breast cancer

PurposeTo evaluate the opportunities of single photon emission tomography/computerized tomography (SPECT-CT) for localization of axillary sentinel lymph nodes (ASLNs) and subsequent radiotherapy planning in women with early breast cancer.Material and methodsIndividual topography of ASLN was determined in 151 women with clinical T1-2N0M0 breast cancer. SPECT-CT visualization of ASLNs was initiated 120min after intra-peritumoral injection of 99mTc-radiocolloids. Doses absorbed by virtual ASLNs after the whole breast irradiation with standard and extended tangential fields were calculated on a treatment planning station.ResultsSPECT-CT demonstrated a large variability of ASLN localization. They were detected in the central subgroup in 94 (61%) patients, in pectoral – in 77 (51%), and in interpectoral – in 4 (3%) patients. Sentinel lymph nodes “lying on the chest” were revealed in 35 (23%) cases. We found that with standard tangential fields coverage of ASLNs was obtained only in 20% of evaluated women. Extended tangential fields can effectively irradiate ASLNs localized in all axillary sub-regions with the exception of ASLNs “lying on the chest”.ConclusionSPECT-CT mapping of ASLNs in women with cT1-2N0M0 breast cancer reveals their variable localization. This information can be important for planning of radiation treatment in women that underwent breast conserving surgery without an axillary surgery

Results on the production of He-4 and (4) nuclei in Pb-Pb collisions at root(NN)-N-S = 2.76 TeV in the rapidity range vertical bar y vertical bar <1, using the ALICE detector, are presented in this paper. The rapidity densities corresponding to 0-10% central events are found to be dN/dy4(He) = (0.8 +/- 0.4 (stat) +/- 0.3 (syst)) x 10(-6) and dN/dy4 = (1.1 +/- 0.4 (stat) +/- 0.2 (syst)) x 10(-6), respectively. This is in agreement with the statistical thermal model expectation assuming the same chemical freeze-out temperature (T-chem = 156 MeV) as for light hadrons. The measured ratio of (4)/He-4 is 1.4 +/- 0.8 (stat) +/- 0.5 (syst). (C) 2018 Published by Elsevier B.V.Peer reviewe

Efficiency upgrading and stability of diesel cold starting and accelerating is attained by addition of light inflammable liquid into diesel fuel during the engine starting and by disconnection of some cylinders.

Deep long period volcanic earthquakes generated by degassing of volatile-rich basaltic magmas

Deep long-period (DLP) earthquakes observed beneath active volcanoes are sometimes considered as precursors to eruptions. Their origin remains, however, unclear. Here, we present a possible DLP generating mechanism related to the rapid growth of gas bubbles in response to the slow decompression of over-saturated magma. For certain values of the gas and bubble content, the elastic deformation of surrounding rocks forced by the expanding bubbly magma can be fast enough to generate seismic waves. We show that amplitudes and frequencies of DLP earthquakes observed beneath the Klyuchevskoy volcano (Kamchatka, Russia) can be predicted by our model when considering pressure changes of ~107 Pa in a volume of ~103–104 m3 and realistic magma compositions. Our results show importance of the deep degassing in the generation of volcanic seismicity and suggest that the DLP swarms beneath active volcanoes might be related to the pulses of volatile-rich basaltic magmas rising from the mantle
