Eclipsing Binaries in Open Clusters
Detached eclipsing binaries are very useful objects for calibrating
theoretical stellar models and checking their predictions. Detached eclipsing
binaries in open clusters are particularly important because of the additional
constraints on their age and chemical composition from their membership of the
cluster. I compile a list containing absolute parameters of well-studied
eclipsing binaries in open clusters, and present new observational data on the
B-type systems V1481 Cyg and V2263 Cyg which are members of the young open

EFORT recommendations for off-label use, mix & match and mismatch in hip and knee arthroplasty
Off-label use is frequently practiced in primary and revision arthroplasty, as there may be indications for the application of implants for purposes outside the one the manufacturers intended.Under certain circumstances, patients may benefit from selective application of mix & match. This can refer to primary hip arthroplasty (if evidence suggests that the combination of devices from different manufacturers has superior results) and revision hip or knee arthroplasty (when the exchange of one component only is necessary and the invasiveness of surgery can be reduced).Within the EFORT 'Implant and Patient Safety Initiative', evidence-and consensus-based recommendations have been developed for the safe application of off-label use and mix & match in primary as well as revision hip and knee arthroplasty.Prior to the application of a medical device for hip or knee arthroplasty off-label and within a mix & match situation, surgeons should balance the risks and benefits to the patient, obtain informed consent, and document the decision process appropriately.Nevertheless, it is crucial for surgeons to only combine implants that are compatible. Mismatch of components, where their sizes or connections do not fit, may have catastrophic effects and is a surgical mistake.Surgeons must be fully aware of the features of the components that they use in off-label indications or during mix & match applications, must be appropriately trained and must audit their results.Considering the frequent practice of off-label and mix & match as well as the potential medico-legal issues, further research is necessary to obtain more data about the appropriate indications and outcomes for those procedures.Orthopaedics, Trauma Surgery and Rehabilitatio
Multiband model for tunneling in MgB2 junctions
A theoretical model for quasiparticle and Josephson tunneling in multiband
superconductors is developed and applied to MgB2-based junctions. The gap
functions in different bands in MgB2 are obtained from an extended Eliashberg
formalism, using the results of band structure calculations. The temperature
and angle dependencies of MgB2 tunneling spectra and the Josephson critical
current are calculated. The conditions for observing one or two gaps are given.
We argue that the model may help to settle the current debate concerning

First principles electronic structure of spinel LiCr2O4: A possible half-metal?
We have employed first-principles electronic structure calculations to
examine the hypothetical (but plausible) oxide spinel, LiCr2O4 with the d^{2.5}
electronic configuration. The cell (cubic) and internal (oxygen position)
structural parameters have been obtained for this compound through structural
relaxation in the first-principles framework. Within the one-electron band
picture, we find that LiCr2O4 is magnetic, and a candidate half-metal. The
electronic structure is substantially different from the closely related and
well known rutile half-metal CrO2. In particular, we find a smaller conduction
band width in the spinel compound, perhaps as a result of the distinct topology
of the spinel crystal structure, and the reduced oxidation state. The magnetism
and half-metallicity of LiCr2O4 has been mapped in the parameter space of its
cubic crystal structure. Comparisons with superconducting LiTi2O4 (d^{0.5}),
heavy-fermion LiV2O4 (d^{1.5}) and charge-ordering LiMn2O4 (d^{3.5}) suggest
the effectiveness of a nearly-rigid band picture involving simple shifts of the
position of E_F in these very different materials. Comparisons are also made
with the electronic structure of ZnV2O4 (d^{2}), a correlated insulator that

Geographical and temporal distribution of SARS-CoV-2 clades in the WHO European Region, January to June 2020
We show the distribution of SARS-CoV-2 genetic clades over time and between countries and outline potential genomic surveillance objectives. We applied three available genomic nomenclature systems for SARS-CoV-2 to all sequence data from the WHO European Region available during the COVID-19 pandemic until 10 July 2020. We highlight the importance of real-time sequencing and data dissemination in a pandemic situation. We provide a comparison of the nomenclatures and lay a foundation for future European genomic surveillance of SARS-CoV-2.Peer reviewe
