The article is the report that was submitted for the Contest. This is a house in which "the man" is a friend of the nature, he controls it and incorporates it in his most immediate surroundings. People, animals and plants live together forming an interdependent system. The house gives lodging to the man as a group (any kind of group with certain recognized rules of cohabitation). The individual intimacy is protected through "compact building elements" in which the user can retreat and get completely isolated. The glass of the partition le electro-optical and its properties vary as desired. All the necessary installations, controls and networks are situated under the pavement.

Yield and sugar accumulating capacities of Airén cultivar. A preliminary study

Airén is the most worldwide spread white grape cultivar, high yielding, well adapted to hot, dry conditions, and not very sensitive to fungal diseases. Its largest growing region is La Mancha, where Airén has been traditionally bush trained, spur pruned and grown with no irrigation. However, grape growing has evolved to meet the need for higher yields and harvest mechanization; and modern cultural practices train grape vines to simple multi-wire trellis systems, cane pruned, and usually irrigated. The aim of the present study was to evaluate the yield and sugar accumulating capacities of Airén cultivar with regard to leaf area, and to assess the influence that different yield components have on yield. In 2014, five commercial irrigated vineyards, located in La Mancha, of different ages, and grafted onto different rootstocks were selected for this study. Canopy surface area (SA) was measured at maturity. Berry weight and sugar concentration were measured during ripening on a weekly basis. Yield and yield components were determined at harvest. Values for shoot density ranged 2.3-5.1 shoots/m2; SA, 0.6-1.1 m2/m2; yield, 20-40 t/ha; fertility, 1.1-1.7 bunches/shoot; bunch weight, 450-650 g; berry weight, 2.5-2.9 g; and sugar concentration, 17-21 ºBrix. The number of bunches per shoot was the yield component that had the greatest influence on yield. The number of berries was the main contributing factor to bunch weight. A lineal relationship between SA/yield and sugar concentration was observed, with values of SA/yield ranging from 0.20 to 0.45 m2/kg. A ratio SA/yield of approximately 0.4 m2/kg was needed to reach a value of 20 ºBrix. Hence it would be necessary a SA of 12000 m2/ha, under the conditions of this study, to achieve a 30 t/ha yield, and a sugar concentration of 20 ºBrix. These results are a step forward in the study of the Airén cultivar, being of help for grape growers in the center area of Spain in order to maximize crop yield and sugar accumulation

Traumatic neuroma is not a true neoplasm but rather a reactive proliferation of neural tissue after transection or other damage to a nerve bundle. They can develop anywhere but are most common in the area of the mental foramen, tongue, and lower lip. Traumatic neuroma formation is a major cause of neuropathic pain, which remains a difficult problem for surgeons. The exact mechanism of the pain associated with the neuroma is still not fully understood and the prevention of its formation is essential to avoid it. To date the most effective treatment has been surgical removal. We report the case of a 23-year-old female patient who presented an increase in the volume of the vestibular sulcus at the level of teeth 44 and 45, as well as spontaneous burning pain with an evolution of approximately five months. It was decided to perform the surgical resection of the lesion and the histopathological result was a traumatic neuroma. At 7 days of follow-up, slight edema is observed in the oral and mental region; as well as anesthesia at the level of the skin of the chin and lower lip. A 10-month follow-up anesthesia persisted, and no recurrence data were observed.

Producción CientíficaThis study analyzed, at a postcode detailed level, the relation-ship between short-term exposure to environmental factors and hospital ad-missions, in-hospital mortality, ICU admission, and ICU mortality due to COVID-19 during the lockdown and post-lockdown 2020 period in Spain. Short-term exposure to air pollutants impacts COVID-19 out-comes during the lockdown, especially PM2.5, PM10, NO2, and SO2. These pollutants are associated with hospital admission, hospital mortality and ICU admission, while ICU mortality is mainly associated with PM2.5 and PM10. Our findings reveal the importance of monitoring air pollutants in respiratory infectious diseases.Ministerio de Ciencia e Innovación y Unión Europea – Next Generation EU (CB21/13/00044 y CB21/13/ 00051)Instituto Carlos III - FEDER. The Fourteenth Data Release of the Sloan Digital Sky Survey: First Spectroscopic Data from the extended Baryon Oscillation Spectroscopic Survey and from the second phase of the Apache Point Observatory Galactic Evolution Experiment

    Get PDF
The fourth generation of the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS-IV) has been in operation since July 2014. This paper describes the second data release from this phase, and the fourteenth from SDSS overall (making this, Data Release Fourteen or DR14). This release makes public data taken by SDSS-IV in its first two years of operation (July 2014-2016). Like all previous SDSS releases, DR14 is cumulative, including the most recent reductions and calibrations of all data taken by SDSS since the first phase began operations in 2000. New in DR14 is the first public release of data from the extended Baryon Oscillation Spectroscopic Survey (eBOSS); the first data from the second phase of the Apache Point Observatory (APO) Galactic Evolution Experiment (APOGEE-2), including stellar parameter estimates from an innovative data driven machine learning algorithm known as "The Cannon"; and almost twice as many data cubes from the Mapping Nearby Galaxies at APO (MaNGA) survey as were in the previous release (N = 2812 in total). This paper describes the location and format of the publicly available data from SDSS-IV surveys. We provide references to the important technical papers describing how these data have been taken (both targeting and observation details) and processed for scientific use. The SDSS website (www.sdss.org) has been updated for this release, and provides links to data downloads, as well as tutorials and examples of data use. SDSS-IV is planning to continue to collect astronomical data until 2020, and will be followed by SDSS-V.Comment: SDSS-IV collaboration alphabetical author data release paper. DR14 happened on 31st July 2017. 19 pages, 5 figures. Accepted by ApJS on 28th Nov 2017 (this is the "post-print" and "post-proofs" version; minor corrections only from v1, and most of errors found in proofs corrected

Atorvastatin Improves Survival in Septic Rats: Effect on Tissue Inflammatory Pathway and on Insulin Signaling

    Get PDF
The aim of the present study was to investigate whether the survival-improving effect of atorvastatin in sepsis is accompanied by a reduction in tissue activation of inflammatory pathways and, in parallel, an improvement in tissue insulin signaling in rats. Diffuse sepsis was induced by cecal ligation and puncture surgery (CLP) in male Wistar rats. Serum glucose and inflammatory cytokines levels were assessed 24 h after CLP. The effect of atorvastatin on survival of septic animals was investigated in parallel with insulin signaling and its modulators in liver, muscle and adipose tissue. Atorvastatin improves survival in septic rats and this improvement is accompanied by a marked improvement in insulin sensitivity, characterized by an increase in glucose disappearance rate during the insulin tolerance test. Sepsis induced an increase in the expression/activation of TLR4 and its downstream signaling JNK and IKK/NF-κB activation, and blunted insulin-induced insulin signaling in liver, muscle and adipose tissue; atorvastatin reversed all these alterations in parallel with a decrease in circulating levels of TNF-α and IL-6. In summary, this study demonstrates that atorvastatin treatment increased survival, with a significant effect upon insulin sensitivity, improving insulin signaling in peripheral tissues of rats during peritoneal-induced sepsis. The effect of atorvastatin on the suppression of the TLR-dependent inflammatory pathway may play a central role in regulation of insulin signaling and survival in sepsis insult

El caso de José María Arguedas

This article aims to reflect on the self-translation of the Peruvian author José María Arguedas, by analysing the poem "Jetman, Haylli / Oda al jet", written in Quechua and translated into Spanish by the same author and compiled in Katatay / Temblar (1972). Arguedas, considering self-translation as a tool to translate the social and cultural heterogeneity of America, tells the image of a continent that demands a non-hierarchical dialogue with 'the West'. Self-translation is a form of cultural resistance against the hierarchies of power and representation according to which the indigenous would lose their 'authenticity' by coming into contact with modernity
