Nonsteady-Flow Thrust Augmenting Ejectors
Ejector augmenters in which the transfer of mechanical energy from the primary to the secondary flow takes place through the work of interface pressure forces are investigated. Nonsteady flow processes are analyzed from the standpoint of energy transfer efficiency and a comparison of a rotary jet augmenter to an ejector is presented
Non-Hermitian robust edge states in one-dimension: Anomalous localization and eigenspace condensation at exceptional points
Capital to topological insulators, the bulk-boundary correspondence ties a
topological invariant computed from the bulk (extended) states with those at
the boundary, which are hence robust to disorder. Here we put forward an
ordering unique to non-Hermitian lattices, whereby a pristine system becomes
devoid of extended states, a property which turns out to be robust to disorder.
This is enabled by a peculiar type of non-Hermitian degeneracy where a
macroscopic fraction of the states coalesce at a single point with geometrical
multiplicity of , that we call a phenomenal point.Comment: 6 pages, 4 figure
Topological states of non-Hermitian systems
Recently, the search for topological states of matter has turned to
non-Hermitian systems, which exhibit a rich variety of unique properties
without Hermitian counterparts. Lattices modeled through non-Hermitian
Hamiltonians appear in the context of photonic systems, where one needs to
account for gain and loss, circuits of resonators, and also when modeling the
lifetime due to interactions in condensed matter systems. Here we provide a
brief overview of this rapidly growing subject, the search for topological

Tuning a Resonance in the Fock Space: Optimization of Phonon Emission in a Resonant Tunneling Device
Phonon-assisted tunneling in a double barrier resonant tunneling device can
be seen as a resonance in the electron-phonon Fock space which is tuned by the
applied voltage. We show that the geometrical parameters can induce a symmetry
condition in this space that can strongly enhance the emission of longitudinal
optical phonons. For devices with thin emitter barriers this is achieved by a

First-line therapy for post-traumatic stress disorder : a systematic review of cognitive behavioural therapy and psychodynamic approaches
Background: Despite evidence supporting cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) based interventions as the most effective approach for treating posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) in randomised control trials, alternative treatment interventions are often used in clinical practice. Psychodynamic (PDT) based interventions are one
example of such preferred approaches, this is despite comparatively limited available evidence supporting their effectiveness for treating PTSD. Aims: Existing research
exploring effective therapeutic interventions for PTSD includes trauma-focused CBT involving exposure techniques. The present review sought to establish the treatment efficacy of CBT and PDT approaches, and considers the potential impact of selecting
PDT-based techniques over CBT-based techniques for the treatment of PTSD.Results: The evidence reviewed provided examples supporting PDT-based therapy as an effective treatment for PTSD, but confirmed CBT as more effective in the treatment of this particular disorder. Comparable dropout rates were reported for
both treatment approaches, suggesting that relative dropout rate should not be a pivotal factor in the selection of a PDT approach over CBT for treatment of PTSD.Conclusion/Implications: The need to routinely observe evidence-based recommendations for effective treatment of PTSD is highlighted and factors
undermining practitioner engagement with CBT-based interventions for the treatment of PTSD are identified
The languages of peace during the French religious wars
The desirability of peace was a common topos in sixteenth-century political rhetoric, and the duty of the king to uphold the peace for the benefit of his subjects was also a long-established tradition. However, the peculiar circumstances of the French religious wars, and the preferred royal policy of pacification, galvanized impassioned debate among both those who supported and those who opposed confessional coexistence. This article looks at the diverse ways in which peace was viewed during the religious wars through an exploration of language and context. It draws not only on the pronouncements of the crown and its officials, and of poets and jurists, but also on those of local communities and confessional groups. Opinion was not just divided along religious lines; political imperatives, philosophical positions and local conditions all came into play in the arguments deployed. The variegated languages of peace provide a social and cultural dimension for the contested nature of sixteenth-century French politics. A new method for targeted and sustained induction of type 2 diabetes in rodents
Type 2 diabetes is a chronic metabolic disorder that is becoming a leading cause of morbidity and mortality. The prolonged time-course of human type 2 diabetes makes modelling of the disease difficult and additional animal models and methodologies are needed. The goal of this study was to develop and characterise a new method that allows controlled, targeted and sustained induction of discrete stages of type 2 diabetes in rodents. Using adult, male rats, we employed a three-week high fat-diet regimen and confirmed development of obesity-associated glucose intolerance, a key feature of human type 2 diabetes. Next, we utilised osmotic mini-pumps to infuse streptozotocin (STZ; doses ranging 80-200 mg/kg) over the course of 14-days to decrease insulin-producing capacity thus promoting hyperglycemia. Using this new approach, we demonstrate a dose-dependent effect of STZ on circulating glucose and insulin levels as well as glucose tolerance, while retaining a state of obesity. Importantly, we found that insulin secretion in response to a glucose load was present, but reduced in a dose-dependent manner by increasing STZ. In conclusion, we demonstrate a novel method that enables induction of discrete stages of type 2 diabetes in rodents that closely mirrors the different stages of type 2 diabetes in humans
Measurement of the Z/gamma* + b-jet cross section in pp collisions at 7 TeV
The production of b jets in association with a Z/gamma* boson is studied
using proton-proton collisions delivered by the LHC at a centre-of-mass energy
of 7 TeV and recorded by the CMS detector. The inclusive cross section for
Z/gamma* + b-jet production is measured in a sample corresponding to an
integrated luminosity of 2.2 inverse femtobarns. The Z/gamma* + b-jet cross
section with Z/gamma* to ll (where ll = ee or mu mu) for events with the
invariant mass 60 < M(ll) < 120 GeV, at least one b jet at the hadron level
with pT > 25 GeV and abs(eta) < 2.1, and a separation between the leptons and
the jets of Delta R > 0.5 is found to be 5.84 +/- 0.08 (stat.) +/- 0.72 (syst.)
+(0.25)/-(0.55) (theory) pb. The kinematic properties of the events are also
studied and found to be in agreement with the predictions made by the MadGraph
event generator with the parton shower and the hadronisation performed by

Azimuthal anisotropy of charged particles at high transverse momenta in PbPb collisions at sqrt(s[NN]) = 2.76 TeV
The azimuthal anisotropy of charged particles in PbPb collisions at
nucleon-nucleon center-of-mass energy of 2.76 TeV is measured with the CMS
detector at the LHC over an extended transverse momentum (pt) range up to
approximately 60 GeV. The data cover both the low-pt region associated with
hydrodynamic flow phenomena and the high-pt region where the anisotropies may
reflect the path-length dependence of parton energy loss in the created medium.
The anisotropy parameter (v2) of the particles is extracted by correlating
charged tracks with respect to the event-plane reconstructed by using the
energy deposited in forward-angle calorimeters. For the six bins of collision
centrality studied, spanning the range of 0-60% most-central events, the
observed v2 values are found to first increase with pt, reaching a maximum
around pt = 3 GeV, and then to gradually decrease to almost zero, with the
decline persisting up to at least pt = 40 GeV over the full centrality range
