    Higher Landau levels contribution to the energy of interacting electrons in a quantum dot

    Properly regularized second-order degenerate perturbation theory is applied to compute the contribution of higher Landau levels to the low-energy spectrum of interacting electrons in a disk-shaped quantum dot. At ``filling factor'' near 1/2, this contribution proves to be larger than energy differences between states with different spin polarizations. After checking convergence of the method in small systems, we show results for a 12-electron quantum dot, a system which is hardly tractable by means of exact diagonalization techniques.Comment: 4 pages, 4 figure

    INCLUSIÓN SOCIAL Y MARCA INSTITUCIONAL DESDE EL DEPORTE EN LA POLICÍA NACIONAL DE COLOMBIA

    The present study describes and analyzes the development of links between sport, promotion of integration and social inclusion, and corporate image of the police institution, in the context of sports events between police, armed forces, institutions of higher education, and citizenship in recent years in Colombia. A descriptive research with a longitudinal design was carried out, using semi-structured interviews and referencing visits, focused on the role and impact that the National Police has through the use of sport as an element of integration, and considering the brand and image of the Police. The study shows that the promotion of sports practice and the establishment of strategic alliances between different entities are significant tools to promote human and social development, for integration and inclusion, and suggest actions to strengthen the corporate image and the achievement of institutional objectives that are pursued within the current national reality.El presente estudio describe y analiza el desarrollo de vínculos entre deporte, fomento de la integración e inclusión social, e imagen corporativa de la institución policial, en el contexto de eventos deportivos entre policía, fuerzas armadas, instituciones de educación superior, y ciudadanía, durante años recientes en Colombia. Se realizó una investigación de tipo descriptivo con diseño longitudinal, utilizando entrevistas semi-estructuradas y visitas de referenciación, enfocadas en el papel e impacto que la Policía Nacional tiene mediante el uso del deporte como elemento de integración, y considerando la marca e imagen de la Policía. El estudio muestra que la promoción de la práctica deportiva y el establecimiento de alianzas estratégicas entre distintas entidades, son herramientas significativas para fomentar el desarrollo humano y social, para la integración e inclusión, y permiten sugerir acciones para fortalecer la imagen corporativa y el logro de los objetivos institucionales que se persiguen dentro de la realidad nacional actual

    Percepción de los estudiantes de la Universidad Sergio Arboleda sobre la policía nacional de Colombia

    Desde el año 2014, la Universidad Sergio Arboleda en conjunto con la Policía Nacional de Colombia, ha venido implementado un programa para mejorar la percepción de estudiantes universitarios respecto a la institución policial, dentro del contexto social colombiano, mediante el uso del deporte y actividades lúdicas. El presente artículo, representa una descripción y análisis sobre la efectividad de dicho programa. Se desarrollaron e implementaron instrumentos y métodos mixtos entre 59 estudiantes universitarios, tales como encuestas y grupos focales. En general, se encontró que los participantes mejoraron su percepción respecto a la Policía Nacional, y a su rol en la sociedad luego de experiencias en actividades compartidas. Los resultados sugieren que, una interacción basada en deporte y esparcimiento, entre el cuerpo de policía y la ciudadanía, especialmente en los segmentos más jóvenes, logra una percepción positiva, que facilita la confianza entre los ciudadanos hacia los funcionarios y la institución policial

    Expression of TILs and Patterns of Gene Expression from Paired Samples of Malignant Pleural Mesothelioma (MPM) Patients

In the first line of treatment, the combination of nivolumab and ipilimumab demonstrated an improvement in survival over chemotherapy. The presence of TILs has been recognized as a marker of antitumor immune response to chemotherapy in solid tumors. The aim of our study is to identify the effect of treatment on immune cells and the immune gene profile in MPM. We investigated the changes in expression of TILs in 10 human MPM paired tumor tissues using immunohistochemistry and gene expression analysis from paired untreated and treated samples. In this small series, we demonstrated that during the evolution of disease without any treatment there was an increase in the inflammatory component in tumor samples. After systemic treatment there was a decrease in the number of TILs. We observed that after systemic treatment or disease progression immune gene signatures were suppressed. Our integrated analysis of paired samples with immune profile and genomic changes on MPM suggested that during the evolution of the disease the immune system tends to switch, turning off with treatment.The study was partially funded by Project PREDICT-Meso (GEACC19003CED), funded by Fundación AECC

    Analysis of labour market needs for engineers with enhanced knowledge in renewable energy in some European and Latin-American Countries

    One of the main challenges related to the renewable energy labour market is that of human capital and as a consequence the educational profile of future employees is of paramount importance. Unfortunately, the skill level gained at University does not always fit with the practical needs of industry thus reducing the benefit-cost ratio of new employees and slowing down the transition to a green economy. Within this context, ‘The Crux’ project co-funded by EU under the framework of the Erasmus + programme aims at improving the renewable energy engineering curriculum at different university levels in several Universities of Latin America and Europe. In order to better appreciate the potential impact of the project, a survey on the labour market need for specialists with enhanced knowledge and skills in renewable and sustainable energy technologies has been conducted in the related EU and Latin America countries. More precisely, 60 organizations have been interviewed and almost 70% of them are interested in employing engineers with enhanced knowledge on renewable energy in the next three years. The analysis has shown significant discrepancies between EU and Latin American organizations. In fact, while future employees in EU countries will be mainly related to solar energy and management, the former together with wind and biomass will represent the main renewable energy working sector in Latin American countries. Moreover, MSc level will be the most demanded in EU while bachelor education seems to satisfy the future industry requirements in Latin America. Despite each country having its own needs, the research carried out under this EU project confirms the potential of renewable energy education on the global labour market in the near future

    The Seventeenth Data Release of the Sloan Digital Sky Surveys: Complete Release of MaNGA, MaStar and APOGEE-2 Data

    This paper documents the seventeenth data release (DR17) from the Sloan Digital Sky Surveys; the fifth and final release from the fourth phase (SDSS-IV). DR17 contains the complete release of the Mapping Nearby Galaxies at Apache Point Observatory (MaNGA) survey, which reached its goal of surveying over 10,000 nearby galaxies. The complete release of the MaNGA Stellar Library (MaStar) accompanies this data, providing observations of almost 30,000 stars through the MaNGA instrument during bright time. DR17 also contains the complete release of the Apache Point Observatory Galactic Evolution Experiment 2 (APOGEE-2) survey which publicly releases infra-red spectra of over 650,000 stars. The main sample from the Extended Baryon Oscillation Spectroscopic Survey (eBOSS), as well as the sub-survey Time Domain Spectroscopic Survey (TDSS) data were fully released in DR16. New single-fiber optical spectroscopy released in DR17 is from the SPectroscipic IDentification of ERosita Survey (SPIDERS) sub-survey and the eBOSS-RM program. Along with the primary data sets, DR17 includes 25 new or updated Value Added Catalogs (VACs). This paper concludes the release of SDSS-IV survey data. SDSS continues into its fifth phase with observations already underway for the Milky Way Mapper (MWM), Local Volume Mapper (LVM) and Black Hole Mapper (BHM) surveys
