    Exhumation history of eastern Ladakh revealed by Ar-40/Ar-39 and fission-track ages: the Indus River-Tso Morari transect, NW Himalaya

    Fission-track and Ar-40/Ar-39 ages place time constraints on the exhumation of the North Himalayan nappe stack, the Indus Suture Zone and Molasse, and the Transhimalayan Batholith in eastern Ladakh (NW India). Results from this and previous studies on a north-south transect passing near Tso Morari Lake suggest that the SW-directed North Himalayan nappe stack (comprising the Mata, Tetraogal and Tso Morari nappes) was emplaced and metamorphosed by c. 50-45 Ma, and exhumed to moderately shallow depths (c. 10 km) by c. 45-40 Ma. From the mid-Eocene to the present, exhumation continued at a steady and slow rate except for the root zone of the Tso Morari nappe, which cooled faster than the rest of the nappe stack. Rapid cooling occurred at c. 20 Ma and is linked to brittle deformation along the normal Ribil-Zildat Fault concomitant with extrusion of the Crystalline nappe in the south.     Chondrites have a complex chronology due to several variables affecting and operating on chondritic parent bodies such as radiogenic heating, pressure and temperature variation with depth, aqueous alteration, and shock or impact heating. Unbrecciated chondrites can record ages from 4.56 to 4.4 Ga that represent cooling in small parent bodies. Some brecciated chondrites exhibit younger ages (much less than 4 to 4.4 Ga) that may reflect the age of brecciation, disturbance, or shock and impact events (much less than 4 Ga). A unique R chondrite was recently found in the LaPaz Icefield of Antarctica - LAP 04840. This chondrite contains approximately 15% hornblende and trace amounts of biotite, making it the first of its kind. Studies have revealed an equigranular texture, mineral equilibria yielding equilibration near 650-700 C and 250-500 bars, hornblende that is dominantly OH-bearing (very little Cl or F), and high D/H ratios. To help gain a better understanding of the origin of this unique sample, we have measured the (40)Ar/(39)Ar age (LAP 04840 split 39)

    At Colquijirca, central Peru, a predominantly dacitic Miocene diatreme-dome complex of 12.4 to 12.7Ma (40Ar/39Ar biotite ages), is spatially related to two distinct mineralization types. Disseminated Au-(Ag) associated with advanced argillic alteration and local vuggy silica typical of high- sulfidation epithermal ores are hosted exclusively within the volcanic center at Marcapunta. A second economically more important mineralization type is characterized as "Cordilleran base metal lode and replacement deposits." These ores are hosted in Mesozoic and Cenozoic carbonate rocks surrounding the diatreme-dome complex and are zoned outward from pyrite-enargite-quartz-alunite to pyrite-chalcopyrite-dickite-kaolinite to pyrite-sphalerite-galena-kaolinite-siderite. Alunite samples related to the Au-(Ag) epithermal ores have been dated by the 40Ar/39Ar method at 11.3-11.6Ma and those from the Cordilleran base metal ores in the northern part of the district (Smelter and Colquijirca) at 10.6-10.8Ma. The significant time gap (~0.5 My) between the ages of the two mineralization types in the Colquijirca district indicates they were formed by different hydrothermal events within the same magmatic cycle. The estimated time interval between the younger mineralization event (base metal mineralization) at ~10.6Ma and the ages of ~12.5Ma obtained on biotites from unmineralized dacitic domes flanking the vicinity of the diatreme vent, suggest a minimum duration of the magmatic-hydrothermal cycle of around 2Ma. This study on the Colquijirca district offers for the first time precise absolute ages indicating that the Cordilleran base metal lode and replacement deposits were formed by a late hydrothermal event in an intrusive-related district, in this case post Au-(Ag) high-sulfidation epithermal mineralizatio

    COSCA (Core Outcome Set for Cardiac Arrest) in Adults : An Advisory Statement From the International Liaison Committee on Resuscitation

    Cardiac arrest effectiveness trials have traditionally reported outcomes that focus on survival. A lack of consistency in outcome reporting between trials limits the opportunities to pool results for meta-analysis. The COSCA initiative (Core Outcome Set for Cardiac Arrest), a partnership between patients, their partners, clinicians, research scientists, and the International Liaison Committee on Resuscitation, sought to develop a consensus core outcome set for cardiac arrest for effectiveness trials. Core outcome sets are primarily intended for large, randomized clinical effectiveness trials (sometimes referred to as pragmatic trials or phase III/IV trials) rather than for pilot or efficacy studies. A systematic review of the literature combined with qualitative interviews among cardiac arrest survivors was used to generate a list of potential outcome domains. This list was prioritized through a Delphi process, which involved clinicians, patients, and their relatives/partners. An international advisory panel narrowed these down to 3 core domains by debate that led to consensus. The writing group refined recommendations for when these outcomes should be measured and further characterized relevant measurement tools. Consensus emerged that a core outcome set for reporting on effectiveness studies of cardiac arrest (COSCA) in adults should include survival, neurological function, and health-related quality of life. This should be reported as survival status and modified Rankin scale score at hospital discharge, at 30 days, or both. Health-related quality of life should be measured with >= 1 tools from Health Utilities Index version 3, Short-Form 36-Item Health Survey, and EuroQol 5D-5L at 90 days and at periodic intervals up to 1 year after cardiac arrest, if resources allow.Peer reviewe

    „La Passion de la clarté.“ : die Entwicklung der Frauenfiguren in der Oper ‚Ariane et Barbe-Bleue‘ von Paul Dukas und Maurice Maeterlinck vor dem Hintergrund der Entstehungsgeschichte des Librettos

    Die Oper „Ariane et Barbe-Bleue“ (Uraufführung 7. Mai 1907 in der Opéra-Comique Paris) von Maurice Maeterlinck und Paul Dukas weist mit der Protagonistin Ariane eine ungewöhnlich starke und selbstbewusste Frauenfigur auf, die entgegen allen Erwartungen und Konventionen gegen Verbote handelt, um die fünf gefangenen Ehefrauen Blaubarts zu befreien. Im Gegensatz zu anderen Frauenfiguren auf der Opernbühne des Fin de Siècle, wie beispielsweise Mélisande oder Salomé, wird sie nicht mit dem Tode bestraft, sondern geht nach ihrer Mission unversehrt von dannen. Maurice Maeterlinck gelang mit diesem Libretto und vor allem der Frauenfigur Ariane die Wende vom symbolistischen zum realistischen Theater. Paul Dukas sicherte sich die Vertonungsrechte für seine erste und einzige Oper, drängte Maeterlinck aber zu umfangreichen Änderungen am Libretto, die hier nachgezeichnet werden. Diese Arbeit untersucht den Entstehungsprozess des Librettos von den ersten Skizzen Maeterlincks 1898/1899 bis zur Endfassung des Textes der Orchesterpartitur (1907) und zeichnet den Einfluss Dukas’ auf die Konzeption des Librettos nach. Gleichzeitig werden die vorgenommenen Änderungen in Beziehung gesetzt zu Maeterlincks Dramenschaffen der Jahre 1890 bis 1902, die sowohl eine Entwicklung der Frauenfiguren als auch der Dramenkonzeption im allgemeinen aufweisen. Georgette Leblanc, Schauspielerin und Sängerin als auch Lebensgefährtin des Schriftstellers Maeterlinck, hatte einen nicht unerheblichen Einfluss auf die Entwicklung von Maeterlincks Frauenbild, dessen Entwicklung exemplarisch an den Dramen „Princesse Maleine“, „Aglavaine et Sélysette“ und „Monna Vanna“ nachgezeichnet wird. Unlike other figures of women of fin de siècle opera like Mélisande (‘femme fatal’) or Salomé (‘femme fragile’) Ariane is not punished for disobedience, after she accomplished her mission she walks away. With the libretto of “Ariane et Barbe-Bleue” Maeterlinck managed to change his dramatic technique from symbolistic to realistic theatre. Paul Dukas acquired the rights to set the libretto to music for his one and only opera and urged Maeterlinck to change important parts of the piece. This dissertation in on the one hand side uncovering Dukas’ participation on Maeterlinck’s libretto that can be traced in the three different stages of the libretto from the first version (preserved only in German) in 1899 through the published ‘Theatre’ version (1901) to the printed text in the score of 1907. This changes will be put in relation to the development of Maeterlinck’s dramatic changes of the years 1890 to 1902, which include also the development of the figure of women in his dramas in general. Georgette Leblanc, singer, actress and 23 years companion of Maeterlinck had a great impact of Maeterlinck’s picture of women and its’ development that are examined in the theatre plays “Princesse Maleine”, “Aglavaine et Sélysette” and “Monna Vanna”. The theoretical basis of his theatre works can be found in Maeterlinck’s philosophical works (“Le Trésor des humbles”, “La Sagesse et la destine” and “La Doube Jardin”) that also places the figure of Ariane in the context of the development of his image of women

    La ETSI Informáticos de la UPM ofrece un sistema de prácticas externas como parte de los créditos de optatividad de algunas de las titulaciones que se imparten. El COLFI (Centro de Orientación Laboral de la Facultad de Informática), se encarga de gestionar este sistema de prácticas externas,almacenando y manejando datos de las mismas a través de hojas de cálculo. El centro debe establecer un convenio con la empresa que acogería al alumno, además, a cada alumno le son asignados dos tutores, un docente de la Escuela como tutor interno y un trabajador de la empresa como tutor externo. Los datos de los tutores, las empresas y los alumnos se almacenan para la posterior consulta, elaboración de informes que recogen distintas estadísticas y generación de certificados a los tutores que los soliciten. Todos estos datos son almacenados mediante hojas de cálculo y la generación de certificados e informes son realizadas actualmente a mano. Por ello, en este proyecto, se propone dotar al Centro de Orientación Laboral de una herramienta que permita realizar todas estas tareas de forma rápida, cómoda e incluso automática, facilitando el acceso y el almacenamiento de los datos

    Thermochronometry across the Austroalpine-Pennine boundary, Central Alps, Switzerland: Orogen-perpendicular normal fault slip on a major ‘overthrust’ and its implications for orogenesis

    Fifty-one new and 309 published thermochronometric ages (nine systems with closure temperatures ranging from ~450 to 70°C) from the Graubünden region of the Central Alps demonstrate that a pronounced thermal mismatch between the Austroalpine allochthon (Alpine “orogenic lid”) and the Pennine zone persisted until at least 29 Ma and, allowably, until circa 18 Ma. The observed mismatch supports previous suggestions that the famous “overthrust” between the Austroalpine allochthon and the Pennine zone, historically regarded as primarily an Eocene top-north thrust fault, is in fact primarily an Oligocene-Miocene normal fault that has a minimum of 60 km of displacement with top-south or top-southeast sense of shear. Two hallmarks of Alpine geology, deposition of the foredeep Molasse and emplacement of the Helvetic nappes, appear to be coeval, peripheral manifestations of crustal thickening via the interposition of the Pennine zone as a northward intruding wedge between the Austroalpine “lid” and the European cratonic margin, with the Helvetic system (European margin) acting as the “floor” of the wedge. We presume the Penninic wedge is driven by the buoyant rise of subducted crust no longer able to remain attached to the descending slab. If so, emplacement of the Pennine wedge could have occurred mainly after Adria was juxtaposed against cratonic Europe

Typical examples of current practices include external quality control by analysis of unknown control samples, certification of control samples and materials, interlaboratory comparisons, and, finally, international standardization of sampling and analytical methods. The Institute of Occupational Health Sciences (IOHS) has participated for more than twenty years in several programs of the above-mentioned approaches, and its own methods have been validated by international quality control programs
