Trust in Authorities Monitoring the Distribution of Genetically Modified Foods: Dimensionality, Measurement Issues, and Determinants
Based on a combined internet and mail survey in Germany the independence of indicators of trust in public authorities from indicators of attitudes toward genetically modified food is tested. Despite evidence of a link between trust indicators on the one hand and evaluation of benefits and perceived likelihoods of risks, correlation with other factors is found to be moderate on average. But the trust indicators exhibit only a moderate relation with the respondents' preference for either sole public control or a cooperation of public and private bodies in the monitoring of GM food distribution. Instead, age and location in either the New or the Old Lander are found to be significantly related with such preferences.consumer trust, genetically modified foods, monitoring, food safety, Agricultural and Food Policy, D18, Z13,

Internetnutzung in der deutschen Agrarwirtschaft: Online-Handelsportale als neue Organisationsform
This paper describes the concept of E-commerce portals, so called E-hubs, in its basic characteristics and analyses their potential impacts on agribusiness enterprises and agricultural markets. Since these impacts depend on the level of market penetration of this new type of organisation, it is further attempted to identify the most relevant factors that determine future acceptance and utilisation of internet portals at sector and enterprise level.E-commerce, agriculture, farm trade, Farm Management, Research and Development/Tech Change/Emerging Technologies,
The QCD transition temperature: results with physical masses in the continuum limit II.
We extend our previous study [Phys. Lett. B643 (2006) 46] of the cross-over
temperatures (T_c) of QCD. We improve our zero temperature analysis by using
physical quark masses and finer lattices. In addition to the kaon decay
constant used for scale setting we determine four quantities (masses of the
\Omega baryon, K^*(892) and \phi(1020) mesons and the pion decay constant)
which are found to agree with experiment. This implies that --independently of
which of these quantities is used to set the overall scale-- the same results
are obtained within a few percent. At finite temperature we use finer lattices
down to a <= 0.1 fm (N_t=12 and N_t=16 at one point). Our new results confirm
completely our previous findings. We compare the results with those of the
'hotQCD' collaboration.Comment: 19 pages, 8 figures, 3 table
Evidence for Increased Genetic Risk Load for Major Depression in Patients Assigned to Electroconvulsive Therapy
Electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) is the treatment of choice for severe and treatment-resistant
depression; disorder severity and unfavorable treatment outcomes are shown to be influenced
by an increased genetic burden for major depression (MD). Here, we tested whether ECT assignment
and response/nonresponse are associated with an increased genetic burden for major
depression (MD) using polygenic risk score (PRS), which summarize the contribution of diseaserelated
common risk variants. Fifty-one psychiatric inpatients suffering from a major depressive
episode underwent ECT. MD-PRS were calculated for these inpatients and a separate
population-based sample (n = 3,547 healthy; n = 426 self-reported depression) based on summary
statistics from the Psychiatric Genomics Consortium MDD-working group (Cases:
n = 59,851; Controls: n = 113,154). MD-PRS explained a significant proportion of disease status
between ECT patients and healthy controls (p = .022, R2 = 1.173%); patients showed higher
MD-PRS. MD-PRS in population-based depression self-reporters were intermediate between
ECT patients and controls (n.s.). Significant associations between MD-PRS and ECT response
(50% reduction in Hamilton depression rating scale scores) were not observed. Our findings indicate
that ECT cohorts show an increased genetic burden for MD and are consistent with the
hypothesis that treatment-resistant MD patients represent a subgroup with an increased genetic
risk for MD. Larger samples are needed to better substantiate these findings

Risikowahrnehmung und Verbrauchervertrauen nach einem Lebensmittelskandal - Eine experimentelle Studie
An expected utility model with Baysean information processing that explains the extent of consumer reaction to a food scare by the degree of supplier differentiation with respect to reliability is put to an experimental test. The empirical results offer no support for the theoretical prediction that post food scare consumer trust in a particular supplier decreases with an increasing degree of differentiation. While gender and personal experience with a food poisoning contribute significantly to the explanation of the individual level of consumer trust after the – hypothetical – food safety incident, perceived characteristics of the specific risk factor listeriosis chosen for this study had by far the biggest impact
