Technological Management of Public Services Based on the DMAIC Method Applying Theory U
This study uses a qualitative case study based on technology management in public services, drawing on the background of a personnel management department. The analysis was based on the concept of the DMAIC method. This approach was chosen due to the obvious need for innovative practices to achieve improved results. The study sought to answer the following question: how can technology management impact on the sector\u27s efficiency study? To answer the question, this study’s main objective is to study the technological production management focused on public service units; and specific objectives characterize the technology management strategy of the search sector (1), make a SWOT analysis of the practices and procedures adopted in the sector under study (2) and suggest managerial innovation considering the DMAIC method, and applying Theory U (3). As a result, it was possible to recognize that the technology management strategy focuses on the organizational and internal variables with critical enabling innovative proposals in the production process. This study is of interest to public officials committed to performance excellence in administrative units under their responsibility. This is another contribution to students, researchers and others involved with the management area.
Biomechanical Model Improving Alzheimer’s Disease
The aim this study is to describe the algorithms of kinetic modeling to analyze the pattern of deposition of amyloid plaques and glucose metabolism in Alzheimer’s dementia. A two-tissue reversible compartment model for Pittsburgh Compound-B ([11C]PIB) and a two-tissue irreversible compartment model for [18F]2-fluoro-2-deoxy-D-glucose ([18F]FDG) are solved applying the Laplace transform method in a system of two first-order differential equations. After calculating a convolution integral, the analytical solutions are completely described. In order to determine the parameters of the model, information on the tracer delivery is needed. A noninvasive reverse engineer technique is described to determine the input function from a reference region (carotids and cerebellum) in PET image processing, without arterial blood samples
Is there an association between anxiety/depression and temporomandibular disorders in college students?
OBJECTIVE: Considering the high incidence of Temporomandibular Disorders (TMD) in the population aged 15-30 years and the fact that students are exposed to stressful psychosocial factors, the purposes of this study were: to verify clinical symptoms and jaw functionality in college students with TMD according to the anxiety/depression (A/D) level and to evaluate the correlation between A/D and functionality, maximum mouth opening (MMO) and pain and muscle activity. MATERIAL AND METHODS: Nineteen students with TMD diagnosed according to the Research Diagnostic Criteria for Temporomandibular Disorders underwent two assessments during an academic semester. The evaluations were based on questionnaires (MFIQ - Mandibular Function Impairment Questionnaire; HADS - Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale), clinical measurements (MMO without pain, MMO and assisted MMO; palpation of joint and masticatory muscles), and electromyography. The HADS scores obtained in the two assessments were used to classify all data as either "high" or "low" A/D. Data normality, differences and correlations were tested with the Shapiro-Wilk test, Student's t-test (or the Wilcoxon test), and Spearman test, respectively. The alpha level was set at 0.05. RESULTS: None of the clinical variables were significantly different when comparing low and high A/D data. In low A/D there was a significant correlation between HADS score and: MFIQ (P=0.005, r=0.61), and MMO without pain (P=0.01, r=-0.55). CONCLUSIONS: Variation in A/D level did not change clinical symptoms or jaw functionality in college students with TMD. Apparently, there is a correlation between TMJ functionality and A/D level, which should be further investigated, taking into account the source of the TMD and including subjects with greater functional limitation
Effect of mandibular mobilization on electromyographic signals in muscles of mastication and static balance in individuals with temporomandibular disorder: study protocol for a randomized controlled trial
Background
The stomatognathic system and dysfunction in this system may be related to postural control. The proposal of the present study is to assess the effect of mandibular mobilization in individuals with temporomandibular disorder using surface electromyography of the muscles of mastication and stabilometric variables.
Methods/Design
A randomized, controlled, blind, clinical trial will be carried out, with the participants divided into three groups: 1) facial massage therapy (control group), 2) nonspecific mandibular mobilization and 3) specific mandibular mobilization. All groups will be assessed before and after treatment using the Research Diagnostic Criteria for Temporomandibular Disorders, surface electromyography of the masseter and temporal muscles and stabilometry. This study is registered with the Brazilian Registry of Clinical Trials (RBR9x8ssz).
Discussion
A large number of studies have employed surface electromyography to investigate the function/dysfunction of the muscles of mastication and associations with signs and symptoms of temporomandibular disorders. However, it has not yet been determined whether stabilometric variables offer adequate reliability in patients with this disorder. The results of the proposed study will help determine whether specific and/or nonspecific mandibular mobilization exerts an effect on the muscles of mastication and postural control. Moreover, if an effect is detected, the methodology defined in the proposed study will allow identifying whether the effect is local (found only in the muscles of mastication), global (found only in postural control) or generalized
Performance of the CMS Cathode Strip Chambers with Cosmic Rays
The Cathode Strip Chambers (CSCs) constitute the primary muon tracking device
in the CMS endcaps. Their performance has been evaluated using data taken
during a cosmic ray run in fall 2008. Measured noise levels are low, with the
number of noisy channels well below 1%. Coordinate resolution was measured for
all types of chambers, and fall in the range 47 microns to 243 microns. The
efficiencies for local charged track triggers, for hit and for segments
reconstruction were measured, and are above 99%. The timing resolution per
layer is approximately 5 ns
Performance and Operation of the CMS Electromagnetic Calorimeter
The operation and general performance of the CMS electromagnetic calorimeter
using cosmic-ray muons are described. These muons were recorded after the
closure of the CMS detector in late 2008. The calorimeter is made of lead
tungstate crystals and the overall status of the 75848 channels corresponding
to the barrel and endcap detectors is reported. The stability of crucial
operational parameters, such as high voltage, temperature and electronic noise,
is summarised and the performance of the light monitoring system is presented
