IP USMF Nicolae Testemiţanu, IMSP SCM Sfânta Treime, Conferinţa consacrată aniversării celor 40 de ani de la fondarea SCM Sfânta Treime 17 iunie 2016 Chișinău, Republica MoldovaThe article represents the analysis of letality of the Department of internal diseases no. 1 of PMSI Municipal Clinical Hospital „Sfanta Treime” during the decade of 2006-2015. Thus, elevations of letality every five years coinciding with the epidemics of flu were observed. The percentage of patients over 60 years remains constantly predominant. The first three places in the letality structure are occupied by respiratory, cardiovascular and neoplastic diseases.

Extradural autologous temporal muscle graft mimicking a meningioma: Case report

Meningiomas are the most common dural tumour, but there are also many other dural masses which mimic their appearances, such as neoplastic and non-neoplastic lesions. In this paper we report another mass which may mimic a dural lesion, namely a muscle graft harvested from the temporal site and left in situ, used to achieve haemostasis in a posttraumatic temporal extradural hematoma in a young male patient. Solid knowledge of differentiating neuroimaging characteristics of dural masses, as well as its corroboration with the patient’s medical history are extremely helpful in establishing an accurate diagnostic

IP USMF NicolaeTestemiţanu, IMSP SCM SfântaTreime, Conferinţa consacrată aniversării celor 40 de ani de la fondarea SCM Sfânta Treime 17 iunie 2016 Chișinău, Republica MoldovaThis article represents the analysis of activity of the department of internal diseases no.1 of PMSI Municipal Clinical Hospital „Sfanta Treime” in 2006-2015. Thus, an increased prevalence of respiratory diseases and primary detected neoplasms was shown. There was an increase in the number of hospitalization days caused by evolving severe disease, late appeals, presence of multiple comorbidities and slower response to treatment. All these are in line with the panEuropean trend of an aging population and hospitalization of patients with multiple health problems.

Heterogeneous Periostin Expression in Different Histological Variants of Papillary Thyroid Carcinoma

Background. Periostin (PN) epithelial and stromal overexpression in tumor pathology has been studied according to tumor growth, angiogenesis, invasiveness, and metastasis, but a limited number of studies address PN in thyroid tumors. Aim. Our study aimed to analyze PN expression in different histological variants of PTC and to correlate its expression with the clinicopathological prognostic factors. Material and Methods. PN expression has been immunohistochemically assessed in 50 cases of PTC (conventional, follicular, oncocytic, macrofollicular, and tall cell variants), in tumor epithelial cells and intratumoral stroma. The association between PN expression and clinicopathological characteristics has been evaluated. Results. Our results show that PTC presented different patterns of PN immunoreaction, stromal PN being significantly associated with advanced tumor stage and extrathyroidal extension. No correlations were found between PN overexpression in tumor epithelial cells and clinicopathological features, except for specific histological variants, the highest risk of poor outcome being registered for the conventional subtype in comparison to the oncocytic type. Conclusions. Our study demonstrates differences in PN expression in histological subtypes of PTC. Our results plead in favor of a dominant protumorigenic role of stromal PN, while the action of epithelial PN is less noticeable

    OUR EXPERIENCE REGARDING PERI-IMPLANTITIS

Although dental implants are most common prosthetic treatment used to replace missing tooth, it gained considerable importance over a decade owing to the availability of advanced techniques that can help in achieving a greater success rate and much better osseointegration. The chances that the implanted tooth can be rejected due to inflammation caused by oral microflora still persist. The term peri-implantitis is used to describe a destructive inflammatory process affecting the soft and hard tissues around osseo integrated implants, leads to the formation of a peri-implant pocket and loss of supporting bone. Predisposing factors are poor plaque control, inflammation, infection, smoking, diabetes and occlusal overload. It is diagnosed on the basis of clinical and radiographic interpretation and still no definitive criteria have been proposed for the diagnosis and treatment of peri-implantitis. However treatment can be both conservative and surgical. The cumulative interceptive supportive therapy protocol serves as good guide for the treatment of the peri-implantitis. Radiological examination it is very important pre- and post-operative assessment of implant surgery. Among all radiological methods, periapical radiography (PA) and cone beam computer tomography (CBCT) are common to asses post-operative peri-implant bone defects

CoCoNet: Towards coast to coast networks of marine protected areas (From the shore to the high and deep sea), coupled with sea-based wind energy potential

This volume contains the main results of the EC FP7 "The Ocean of Tomorrow" Project CoCoNet, divided in two sections: 1) a set of guidelines to design networks of Marine Protected Areas in the Mediterranean and the Black Seas; 2) a smart wind chart that will allow evaluating the possibility of installing Offshore Wind Farms in both seas. The concept of Cells of Ecosystem Functioning, based on connectivity, is introduced to define natural units of management and conservation. The definition of Good Environmental Status, as defined in the Marine Strategy Framework Directive, is fully embraced to set the objectives of the project, by adopting a holistic approach that integrates a full set of disciplines, ranging from physics to bio-ecology, economics, engineering and many sub-disciplines. The CoCoNet Consortium involved scientist sfrom 22 states, based in Africa, Asia, and Europe, contributing to build a coherent scientific community

The Supplement to vol. 6, 2016 of SCIRES-IT contains the result of CoCoNet (Towards COast to COast NETworks of marine protected areas, coupled with sea-based wind energy potential), a project of the EU Oceans of Tomorrow programme (http://www.coconet-fp7.eu). The European Union requires Open Access to the results of the projects resulting from its support to scientific advancement. This is in full accordance with the policy of SCIRES-IT, an eco-sustainable open–access journal, which joins the main principles of the Berlin Declaration on Open Access with the aims of the International Convention on Biological Diversity. CoCoNet tackled two problems that are closely linked with each other: the protection of the marine environment and clean energy production. Hence, the Supplement is divided into two parts that, together, form a unicum
