Precision mass measurements of radioactive nuclei at JYFLTRAP

    Get PDF
The Penning trap mass spectrometer JYFLTRAP was used to measure the atomic masses of radioactive nuclei with an uncertainty better than 10 keV. The atomic masses of the neutron-deficient nuclei around the N = Z line were measured to improve the understanding of the rp-process path and the SbSnTe cycle. Furthermore, the masses of the neutron-rich gallium (Z = 31) to palladium (Z = 46) nuclei have been measured. The physics impacts on the nuclear structure and the r-process paths are reviewed. A better understanding of the nuclear deformation is presented by studying the pairing energy around A = 100.Comment: 4 pages and 4 figures, RNB7 conf. pro

Q-values of the Superallowed beta-Emitters 26m-Al, 42-Sc and 46-V and their impact on V_ud and the Unitarity of the CKM Matrix

The beta-decay Q_EC-values of the superallowed beta emitters 26m-Al, 42-Sc and 46-V have been measured with a Penning trap to a relative precision of better than 8x10^-9. Our result for 46-V, 7052.72(31) keV, confirms a recent measurement that differed significantly from the previously accepted reaction-based Q_EC-value. However, our results for 26m-Al and 42-Sc, 4232.83(13) keV and 6426.13(21) keV, are consistent with previous reaction-based values. By eliminating the possibility of a systematic difference between the two techniques, this result demonstrates that no significant shift in the deduced value of V_ud should be anticipated.Comment: 4 pages, 2 figures, 1 table. A new isomer in 125^{125}La

    No full text
Levels in 125^{125}La have been studied via β+\beta ^+/EC decay of on-line mass-separated 125^{125}Ce using the HIGISOL technique. A new (390 ±\pm 40) ms isomer is definitely attributed to 125^{125}La by conversion electron measurements of the 107 keV E3 isomeric transition

    Level structure of 99Nb

The β decay of 97Sr to 97Y has been investigated using ion-guide on-line mass separation and a 10 Ge-detector array to record γ−γ coincidences to a detection limit well below that of former studies. Similarities are found in the β-decay patterns of 99Zr and of its isotone 97Sr and also in the γ-ray decay rates and branchings of the corresponding levels in their respective daughters 99Nb and 97Y. This indicates a persisting influence of the d5/2 neutron shell closure for 99Nb. The level structure of 99Nb and the β-feeding pattern are discussed in the frame of the interacting boson-fermion plus broken pair model and the microscopic quasiparticle phonon model

First evidence of multiple beta-delayed neutron emission for isotopes with A > 100

The beta-delayed neutron emission probability, P-n, of very neutron-rich nuclei allows us to achieve a better understanding of the nuclear structure above the neutron separation energy, S-n. The emission of neutrons can become the dominant decay process in neutron-rich astrophysical phenomena such as the rapid neutron capture process (r-process). There are around 600 accessible isotopes for which beta-delayed one-neutron emission (beta 1n) is energetically allowed, but the branching ratio has only been determined for about one third of them. beta 1n decays have been experimentally measured up to the mass A similar to 1 5 0, plus a single measurement of Tl-210. Concerning two-neutron emitters (beta 2n), similar to 3 0 0 isotopes are accessible and only 24 have been measured so far up to the mass A = 100. In this contribution, we report recent experiments which allowed the measurement of beta 1n emitters for masses beyond A > 200 and N > 1 2 6 and identified the heaviest beta 2n emitter measured so far, Sb-136.Peer reviewe

Effective Rheology of Bubbles Moving in a Capillary Tube

We calculate the average volumetric flux versus pressure drop of bubbles moving in a single capillary tube with varying diameter, finding a square-root relation from mapping the flow equations onto that of a driven overdamped pendulum. The calculation is based on a derivation of the equation of motion of a bubble train from considering the capillary forces and the entropy production associated with the viscous flow. We also calculate the configurational probability of the positions of the bubbles.Comment: 4 pages, 1 figur

As a digital version of word-of-mouth, Word-of-Mouth(oWOM) has become a major information source for consumers and has very important implications for a wide range of management activities, whereas, the former researchers have found out that online product review cannot reveal a product’s true quality and the general attitude of consumers. In that way, what is the true consumer attitude of each ratin...学位:文学硕士院系专业:新闻传播学院广告学系_传播学学号:3192008115305

Neutron emission from electromagnetic dissociation of Pb nuclei at √ s NN = 2.76 TeV measured with the ALICE ZDC

    Get PDF
The ALICE Zero Degree Calorimeter system (ZDC) is composed of two identical sets of calorimeters, placed at opposite sides with respect to the interaction point, 114 meters away from it, complemented by two small forward electromagnetic calorimeters (ZEM). Each set of detectors consists of a neutron (ZN) and a proton (ZP) ZDC. They are placed at zero degrees with respect to the LHC axis and allow to detect particles emitted close to beam direction, in particular neutrons and protons emerging from hadronic heavy-ion collisions (spectator nucleons) and those emitted from electromagnetic processes. For neutrons emitted by these two processes, the ZN calorimeters have nearly 100% acceptance. During the √ sNN = 2.76 TeV Pb-Pb data-taking, the ALICE Collaboration studied forward neutron emission with a dedicated trigger, requiring a minimum energy deposition in at least one of the two ZN. By exploiting also the information of the two ZEM calorimeters it has been possible to separate the contributions of electromagnetic and hadronic processes and to study single neutron vs. multiple neutron emission. The measured cross sections of single and mutual electromagnetic dissociation of Pb nuclei at √ s NN = 2.76 TeV, with neutron emission, are σ single EMD = 187:4 ± 0.2 (stat.)-11.2 +13.2 (syst.) b and σmutual EMD = 5.7 ± 0.1 (stat.) ±0.4 (syst.) b, respectively [1]. This is the first measurement of electromagnetic dissociation of 208Pb nuclei at the LHC energies, allowing a test of electromagnetic dissociation theory in a new energy regime. The experimental results are compared to the predictions from a relativistic electromagnetic dissociation model'701st International Conference on New Frontiers in Physics, ICFP 20122012-06-10Kolymbari, Crete; Greecesem informaçã

Alignment of the ALICE Inner Tracking System with cosmic-ray tracks

    Get PDF
37 pages, 15 figures, revised version, accepted by JINSTALICE (A Large Ion Collider Experiment) is the LHC (Large Hadron Collider) experiment devoted to investigating the strongly interacting matter created in nucleus-nucleus collisions at the LHC energies. The ALICE ITS, Inner Tracking System, consists of six cylindrical layers of silicon detectors with three different technologies; in the outward direction: two layers of pixel detectors, two layers each of drift, and strip detectors. The number of parameters to be determined in the spatial alignment of the 2198 sensor modules of the ITS is about 13,000. The target alignment precision is well below 10 micron in some cases (pixels). The sources of alignment information include survey measurements, and the reconstructed tracks from cosmic rays and from proton-proton collisions. The main track-based alignment method uses the Millepede global approach. An iterative local method was developed and used as well. We present the results obtained for the ITS alignment using about 10^5 charged tracks from cosmic rays that have been collected during summer 2008, with the ALICE solenoidal magnet switched off.Peer reviewe
