Centralized vs. decentralized computing : organizational considerations and management options
The long-standing debate over whether to centralize or decentralize computing is examined in terms of the fundamental organizational and economic factors at stake. The traditional debate is examined and found to focus predominantly on issues of efficiency vs. effectiveness, with solutions based on a rationalistic strategy of optimizing in this tradeoff. A more behavioralistic assessment suggests that the driving issues in the debate are the politics of organization and resources, centering on the issue of control. The economics of computing deployment decisions is presented as an important issue, but one that often serves as a field of argument that is based on more political concerns. The current situation facing managers of computing, given the advent of small and comparatively inexpensive computers, is examined in detail, and a set of management options for dealing with this persistent issue is presented

System development guidelines from a review of motion-based technology for people with MCI or dementia
As the population ages and the number of people living with dementia or mild cognitive impairment (MCI) continues to increase, it is critical to identify creative and innovative ways to support and improve their quality of life. Motion-based technology has shown significant potential for people living with dementia or MCI by providing opportunities for cognitive stimulation, physical activity and participation in meaningful leisure activities, while simultaneously functioning as a useful tool for research and development of interventions. However, many of the current systems created using motion-based technology have not been designed specifically for people with dementia or MCI. Additionally, the usability and accessibility of these systems for these populations has not been thoroughly considered. This paper presents a set of system development guidelines derived from a review of the state of the art of motion-based technologies for people with dementia or MCI. These guidelines highlight three overarching domains of consideration for systems targeting people with dementia or MCI: (i) cognitive, (ii) physical, and (iii) social. We present the guidelines in terms of relevant design and use considerations within these domains and the emergent design themes within each domain. Our hope is that these guidelines will aid in designing motion-based software to meet the needs of people with dementia or MCI such that the potential of these technologies can be realized

Analytical modelling in Dynamo
BIM is applied as modern database for civil
engineering. Its recent development allows to preserve
both structure geometrical and analytical information. The
analytical model described in the paper is derived directly
from BIM model of a structure automatically but in most
cases it requires manual improvements before being sent
to FEM software. Dynamo visual programming language
was used to handle the analytical data. Authors developed
a program which corrects faulty analytical model obtained
from BIM geometry, thus providing better automation for
preparing FEM model. Program logic is explained and test
cases shown
The Use of Geographical Information Systems in the Urban Communes of Łódź Metropolitan Area
The article presents the results of pilot studies carried out in the cities of Łódź Metropolitan Area. The study
concerned the use of geographical information system by the employees of offices of these cities. The interest in
the subject of GIS in Polish urban communes results from the assumptions of the EU INSPIRE Directive and the
necessity of its implementation in the basic units of territorial division of Poland. The aim of the research was the
analysis of the impact of GIS on the sphere of the public participation in the process of local management and the
possible use of GIS in the decision making in communes. Research showed what kind of software was used in
analyzed communes
The value of automated follicle volume measurements in IVF/ICSI
Background/Aims: The objective of this literature study is to investigate the place of recent software technology sonography-based automated volume count (SonoAVC) for the automatic measurement of follicular volumes in IVF/ICSI. Its advantages and disadvantages and potential future developments are evaluated.
Methods: A total of 74 articles were read via a PubMed literature study.The literature study included 53 articles, 32 of which for the systematic review.
Results: The SonoAVC software shows excellent accuracy. Comparing the technology with the “golden standard” two-dimensional (2D) manual follicle measurements, SonoAVC leads to a significantly lower intra- and inter-observer variability. However, there is no significant difference in clinical outcome (pregnancy rate).We noted a significant advantage in the time gained, both for doctor and patient. By storing the images, the technology offers the possibility of including a quality control and continuous training and further standardization of follicular monitoring can be expected. Ovarian reserve testing by measuring the antral follicle count with SonoAVC is highly reliable.
Conclusion: This overview of previously published literature shows how SonoAVC offers advantages for clinical practice, without losing any accuracy or reliability. Doctors should be motivated to the general use of follicular volumes instead of follicular diameters
