    Gun Room 5S

    Get PDF
Problem Statement: Dining Services uses two storage rooms. Only one storage room, what used to the Gun Room, is now available. The storage rooms contain items that are used seasonally infrequently or are no longer used. Items are disorganized, overcrowded, and unlabeled, making it difficult to find items. This leads to waste in resources as items that cannot be found are reordered again. Time is wasted searching for stored items, leading to employee inefficiency. An employee safety hazard was created due to items stacked up

Evaluating Impacts of Five Years of Beginning Farmer Webinar Training

    Get PDF
The Michigan State University Extension Beginning Farmer Webinar Series has been implemented statewide since 2012. For the period 2012–2016, 63 webinars were provided to 607 participants. Regular evaluation efforts capture impact data from participants 6 to 10 months after they complete the series. However, to determine longer range impacts of the program, we developed a follow-up online evaluation and distributed it via email invitation to 2012–2016 participants for whom contact information was available. The evaluation results indicate an encouraging level of impact with regard to knowledge retained, farm practices changed, and positive economic metrics such as new farm start-ups and new jobs

An evaluation of enhanced geotextile layer in permeable pavement to improve stormwater infiltration and attenuation

    Get PDF
This paper reports on an evaluation of the properties of a novel structure known as OASIS® which was designed at Coventry University as an enhancement of the commercially available geotextiles when incorporated in the permeable pavement system (PPS). The impact on the hydraulic behaviour of a PPS was analysed through the study of infiltration rate, throughout the PPS and time required to reach the steady-state stage behaviour of the water within the PPS, under extreme rainfall intensities of 100 mm/hr, 200 mm/hr and 400 mm/hr, corresponding to a 100-year return period rainfall over a duration of 15 min in different parts of the world. The result indicated that the novel structure provides an extra benefit when incorporated in PPSs, delaying peak flow of a rainfall event by retaining and storing great volumes of water within its structure. These additional benefits are especially important under extreme rainfall events

A review of eco-friendly functional road materials

Extensive studies on traditional and novel engineering materials and the increasing demands by growing traffic have led to tremendous changes of the function of roads. Roads, as an important part of the human living environment, have evolved from structures that were designed and built for passing vehicles, to ecological assets with significant economic importance. In addition to structural stability and durability, functions such as noise reduction, urban heat island mitigation, de-icing and exhaust gas absorption, are also expected. This study focused on state-of-the-art research on the performance, applications and challenges of six environment-friendly functional road materials, namely the permeable asphalt concrete, noise-reducing pavement materials, low heat-absorbing pavement materials, exhaust gas-decomposing pavement materials, de-icing pavement materials, and energy harvesting pavement materials. With this study, we aim to provide references to the latest relevant literatures of the design and development of environment-friendly functional pavement, and promote innovation in materials science and pavement design principles. For this purpose, this review compiled extensive knowledge in modern road construction and related disciplines, in order to promote the development of modern pavement engineering technologies
