Methodology: a narrative review was carried out through various databases from january 2015 to january 2022; the search and selection of articles was carried out in journals indexed in english. the following keywords were used: cardioprotective, sglt2 inhibitors, glp-1 receptor agonists. results: sglt2i reduce glycosylated hemoglobin between 0.5% and 1.0%, showing favorable effects on body weight, blood pressure, lipid profile, arterial stiffness and endothelial function. glp-1 analogs significantly reduce blood pressure values. the physiological mechanisms by which regulation is reached are still not entirely clear. various mechanisms have been proposed, among which we find the direct activation of the glp-1 receptor in the arteries and the renal system, including an improvement in endothelial function, as well as a vasodilator and natriuretic effect. conclusions: this review offers updated and detailed information on the cardioprotective effects that are provided by the use of sglt2 inhibitors and glp-1 receptor agonists in diabetic patients, especially in those with risk factors for developing cardiovascular diseases.

Nuestros Maestros…92The extraordinary power that literature has, in the life of a human being, is incalculable; It is not just opening a book and running your eyes through the pages; No! It is to let yourself be trapped, to let yourself be carried away by different, diverse worlds and contexts, full of human experiences that make us unique and unrepeatable. Every time we open a book and give ourselves permission to read it, we become better human beings, because we understand others more, or at least, we try to recognize how they lived, how they thought, how they acted, in other times, including ours. . With reading, we can understand why human beings are the way they are, we enhance empathy and strengthen moral conscience, among some advantages that this process has that accompanies us throughout our lives. This year, in the best Book Fair of the Colombian East, ULIBRO 2021, which takes place from August 30 to September 4, we are invited to participate in talks, workshops, meetings with authors, among other proposed activities, in person and virtual, to continue strengthening our life project; Also, we are invited to let ourselves be infected with reading, writing, orality, starting from "The amazing stories", which are going to take the different spaces proposed
Stable graphene oxide-gold nanoparticle platforms for biosensing applications
Graphene oxide-gold nanoparticle (AuNPs@GO) hybrids were fabricated in water dispersions of graphene oxide (GO) and Au precursor completely free of stabilizing agents by UV-light irradiation. Gold nanoparticle (AuNP) nucleation, growth, and stabilization mechanisms at the surface of GO are discussed on the basis of UV-Vis, Raman, IR, and X-Ray photo-spectroscopy studies. The analyses of AuNPs@GO hybrids by transmission electron microscopy (TEM), thermogravimetric (TGA) and electrochemical tests show that they exhibit outstanding chemical, thermal and electrochemical stabilities. Thus, AuNPs@GO biosensing platforms were fabricated for surface enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) detection of crystal violet (CV), a SERS standard molecule, and in a different set of experiments, for flavin adenine dinucleotide (FAD), a flavoprotein coenzyme that plays an important role in many oxidoreductase and reversible redox conversions in biochemical reactions. AuNPs@GO hybrids synthesized by using UV light irradiation show exceptional stability and high intensification of the Raman signals showing that they have high potential for use as biomedical probes for the detection, monitoring, and diagnosis of medical diseases.Fil: Hernández Sánchez, Dania. Antibacterial Additive for Polystyrene Based on Silver Nanoparticles Supported on Titanium Dioxide
Silver nanoparticles supported on titanium dioxide nanoparticles (Ag/TiO2) were incorporated and evaluated as antibacterial additive for polystyrene materials. These particles were synthesized using a deposition-precipitation method by adding silver nitrate as metallic precursor, sodium hydroxide as reducing agent, and commercial TiO2 (P25) as support. Rectangular pieces of polystyrene (PS) containing 100, 300, 500, and 700 ppm (wt.%) of the additive were made using an extrusion-injection molding process, and they were evaluated for their antibacterial properties against Escherichia coli using the Pour Plate method. Particles were distributed on the PS surface, and PS pieces presented a good antibacterial efficiency at 100, 300, and 500 ppm and decreased for 700 ppm due to an additive agglomeration on the PS surface. These results validate the antibacterial properties of Ag/TiO2, determine a concentration limit at which the additive is well distributed on the PS surface, and assess the importance of Ag in this system
