Assessing Revenue Growth in Wireless Telecom under Production Uncertainty: An Approach of Modeling and Simulation

    Get PDF
The local business environment of telecom industry in Manipur supports network reliability of wireless telecom at the expense of high input costs. The network reliability is a quality of service highly demanded by telecom users and it is regarded as business success parameter of the telecom firm. The production theory predicts that cost-benefit analysis becomes difficult in an environment where prices of input resources are rising at high and the firm is led to postpone the production or reduce the production investment. Production of reliable service at the expense of heavy cash outlays has resulted production uncertainty on the concept of negative return on investment.  This paper is inspired by the mismatch between demand and supply of network reliability in the context of local business environment. This paper examines the behavior of wireless telecom network and employs a production function of a model network to study the economic growth behavior of the network under varying sets of input resources. In this paper, I make a simulation approach to generate empirical data for the traffic and other decision variables of the production function. The simulation model is trained to investigate network traffic as function of input resources such as diesel fuel, grid energy and network uptime and the information obtained from simulation is used in cost-benefit analysis of the production system.  I find that there is meaningful revenue growth in the existing environment at 100 percent network uptime, which is desired for the highest level of network reliability. This paper presents an experimental study of high resolution rotation per minute (RPM) measurement of a rotating shaft using Laser sensor module. A novel method is implemented for measuring low speed as well as a high speed. Experiments are conducted using a raspberry pi which is based on ARM7 processor. The experimented results are presented for low speed as well as high speed separately and also calculated resolutions are shown

Advanced Control Methods of Induction Motor: A Review

    Get PDF
In this paper, various types of advanced control methods of the induction motor are discussed, and a comparision between these methods have been brought out. This paper also discusses about the application areas of these new methods. The objective of this review is to conclude which method is the best control scheme among all of these methods. The related block diagrams for various control schemes are also illustrated along with various steps involved in the implementation of those schemes. Advantages and disadvantages of the schemes are also presented

Perspective of Station Uptime on Modeling and Management of the Base Station Energy Consumption

The network availability of the wireless network can be viewed as broader concept of network reliability. Reliability is a unique quality of wireless network and it is regarded as key parameter for business success of the telecom service providers. The network availability however is often compromised with outages caused by various factors and amongst the factors, inadequate energy at the base stations is the major outage-contributing factor. Due to unreliable electrical grid supply at many base stations, diesel generators are deployed to the stations as an alternative source of energy.  The diesel generators incur high operating expenses. This paper presents a quantitative approach for measurement and estimation of diesel fuel consumption based on uptime hours of various equipments installed at the base station site. It also introduces a new parameter called energy conservation factor, which determines amount of energy transfer to the battery-bank while charging the battery with power from an external source such as grid, diesel generator.  This model while presenting a new management perspective for effective utilization of the conserved energy of the battery-bank also attempts to reduce waste such as fuel losses and pilferages. We also describe how the method introduced in this paper can assist management in planning and preparation of fuel budget for a particular base station or the entire wireless network. PERCEIVED FACTORS KEEPING STUDENTS IN OR AWAY FROM DOING SPORTS AND PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES IN TAIWAN REGION

In the last six or so decades, researchers have investigated, proved and shown the benefits of sports and physical activities on students’ physical and mental health, academic performance and overall personal development. However, many researchers found that more and more students were staying away from sports and physical activities. Today, more than 80% of adolescent and 40-50% of college students globally did not meet the current physical activity per day recommended by the World Health Organization, thus keeping them unhealthy and unfit. This led researchers around the world to investigate the perceived facilitators and barriers that keep students away from these healthy activities. But, so far Taiwan region is concerned, no internationally published study has been done on this topic. To fill up the gap, the present quantitative, descriptive cross-sectional study investigated what perceived benefits and barriers keep in or away Taiwanese students from doing sports and physical activities. 9 self-designed multiple-choice paper survey questionnaires were administered among 199 students of different age groups, studying at different class levels at three educational institutes in New Taipei City, Taiwan during the six months, April to October, 2021. The collected data was then analyzed using Microsoft Excel Pivot table. Results: 82% of students knew doing physical activities could keep them physically and mentally healthy, but only 28% did enough exercise. Main responsible factors were: too much school works, part-time jobs, not enough social encouragements, lack of interest, no self-confidence in sports, and lack of knowledge respectively. Article visualizations

Super capacitor based energy saving LED lighting system

    Get PDF
Abstract:Today's world fully depends on energy. There is a huge gap between demand and supply of electricity. So, it is time to use energy saving devices and methods. In this paper, a low-cost super capacitor base LED lighting system is introduced. The proposed system is allowed to use rectified DC voltage from AC mains or power from solar. The rectified DC voltage is used to charge a supercapacitor for few minutes.  When fully charged the super capacitor will be automatically disconnected from the supply. The power for LED lighting is taken from the supercapacitor. Before the super capacitor is fully discharged, it recharges automatically. Thus reducing the time of connection between main supply and load and hence the cost of energy and power consumption is reduced to a great extent. Keywords: Supercapacitor, PV panel, LED bulb, OP-amp.(Article history: Received 14 April 2016 and accepted 30 December 2016
