    En 1994 el Área de Arqueología de la Universidad de Huelva realizó una excavación de emergencia en la necrópolis de la factoría de salazones de El Eucaliptal (Punta Umbría, Huelva). En esta factoría ya se había intervenido anteriormente, pero sobre otras áreas funcionales del asentamiento (área de habitación, área industrial). La actuación de 1994 puso al descubierto el sector de necrópolis donde se documentó una amplia secuencia de enterramientos bajoimperiales, formada por tres fases claramente diferenciadas: una primera, correspondiente a inhumaciones e incineraciones en tumbas de tégulas a dos aguas; una segunda integrada por inhumaciones infantiles en ánforas; y finalmente, la más moderna caracterizada por inhumaciones en tumbas de ladrillo y pizarra sin ajuar.____________________________________In 1994 the Area of Archaeology of the University of Huelva carried out an emergency excavation in the cemetery of the fish-sauce factory of El Eucaliptal (Punta Umbria, Huelva).     The roman Turobriga, although known by scientists in the middle of 60's, until 1996 no archaeological excavations were conducted therein. As from said year several papers and reports have been issued of diverse field works carried out my members of Area de Arqueología de la Universidad de Huelva. In this paper a synthesis of new evidence is presented regarding historial implications of roman town in the Picos de Aroche territory context, its urban pattern, and special relevance of the evidence obtained in the forum area is giving.Aunque la ciudad romana de Turobriga es conocida en el mundo científico desde mediados de los años setenta, no se había realizado sobre ella ningún tipo de investigación hasta la presencia del Área de Arqueología de la Universidad de Huelva a partir de 1996. Desde entonces se han realizado varias campañas de investigación, de diferente carácter, que han generado varios artículos publicados en Congresos o revistas científicas, así como los preceptivos informes y memorias con los resultados de todas las intervenciones. En este trabajo presentamos una breve síntesis de los avances que se han producido, en especial en lo referente a la significación histórica de Turobriga en el contexto territorial de los Picos de Aroche y en las características de su trama urbana, resaltando especialmente los avances en el área del forum

    Una de las actividades que mejor definen la economía de época romana en el Golfo de Cádiz es la industria relacionada con la producción y comercialización de salsas de pescado (salazones). Según los testimonios arqueológicos, los orígenes de esta producción se remontan a momentos prerromanos en ámbitos geográficos relacionados con el comercio gaditano. Dado el escaso número de este tipo de instalaciones conocidas en la costa onubense durante el período romano, donde hasta la fecha sólo existían escasas referencias bibliográficas, se presentan en este trabajo los nuevos yacimientos dedicados a la producción de salazones descubiertos en prospecciones y excavaciones por el Área de Arqueología de la Universidad de Huelva, y se hace hincapié en una mayor abundancia de este tipo de instalaciones, que fenómenos geomorfológicos recientes, principalmente los donares, impiden valorar en su verdadera dispersión._____________________________One of the activities which better define the economy of Roman period in the Gulf of Cadiz is the industry related to the production and marketing sauce of fish (fish-salting). According to the archaeological testimonies, the origins of this production go back to preroman moments, in areas related to the Cadiz trade. In view of the scanty number of this type of facilities know in Huelva coast during the Roman period, where up to the date only scanty bibliographical references existed, there appear in this work the new deposits dedicated to the production of saltings discovered in explorations and excavations for the Area of Archaeology of the University of Huelva. And it is emphisized a bigger abundance of this type of factories, which geomorphological phenomenon, principally the littoral dunes system, prevent valuing at its real dispersion

    Further results on the cross norm criterion for separability

    In the present paper the cross norm criterion for separability of density matrices is studied. In the first part of the paper we determine the value of the greatest cross norm for Werner states, for isotropic states and for Bell diagonal states. In the second part we show that the greatest cross norm criterion induces a novel computable separability criterion for bipartite systems. This new criterion is a necessary but in general not a sufficient criterion for separability. It is shown, however, that for all pure states, for Bell diagonal states, for Werner states in dimension d=2 and for isotropic states in arbitrary dimensions the new criterion is necessary and sufficient. Moreover, it is shown that for Werner states in higher dimensions (d greater than 2), the new criterion is only necessary.Comment: REVTeX, 19 page

    False failure in flexural fatigue tests

    Flexural fatigue tests are typically run under displacement or in a straincontrolled mode. In these tests, either the oscillatory displacement amplitude or strain amplitude applied to the bottom of the specimen is kept constant. The evolution of loading required to cause fatigue is then measured. Load amplitude decreases with the number of cycles, and the specimen is considered to have failed when the load is half its initial value. This failure criterion may be erroneous when non-fragile fracture mixtures prepared with high bitumen contents or modified binders are tested. In these cases, mixtures exhibit a visco-plastic behaviour and increasingly less stress is necessary to cause strain without cracking. Mixtures are hardly deteriorated when the fatigue failure is determined, and may be subjected to a larger number of load repetitions. It is then recommended to control the evolution of loading more effectively and regard as valid only tests where load decreases sharply to very low levels, making sure that the three stages in the fatigue process have occurred.Peer ReviewedPostprint (author’s final draft

    Unital Quantum Channels - Convex Structure and Revivals of Birkhoff's Theorem

    The set of doubly-stochastic quantum channels and its subset of mixtures of unitaries are investigated. We provide a detailed analysis of their structure together with computable criteria for the separation of the two sets. When applied to O(d)-covariant channels this leads to a complete characterization and reveals a remarkable feature: instances of channels which are not in the convex hull of unitaries can return to it when either taking finitely many copies of them or supplementing with a completely depolarizing channel. In these scenarios this implies that a channel whose noise initially resists any environment-assisted attempt of correction can become perfectly correctable.Comment: 31 page

    Short-Term Changes in Respiratory Biomarkers after Swimming in a Chlorinated Pool

    36 páginas, 3 figuras, 5 tablas.[BACKGROUND]: Swimming in chlorinated pools involves exposure to disinfection by-products (DBPs) and has been associated with impaired respiratory health.[OBJECTIVES]: We evaluated short-term changes in several respiratory biomarkers to explore mechanisms of potential lung damage related to swimming pool exposure.[METHODS]: We measured lung function and biomarkers of airway inflammation (fractional exhaled nitric oxide –FeNO- and 8 cytokines and 1 growth factor (VEGF) in exhaled breath condensate), oxidative stress (8-isoprostane in exhaled breath condensate), and lung permeability (surfactant protein D -SPD- and the Clara cell secretory protein -CC16- in serum) in 48 healthy non-smoking adults before and after swimming for 40 min in a chlorinated indoor swimming pool. We measured trihalomethanes in exhaled breath as a marker of individual exposure to DBPs. Energy expenditure during swimming, atopy and CC16 genotype (rs3741240) was also determined.[RESULTS]: Median serum CC16 levels increased from 6.01 to 6.21 μg/L (average increase 3.3%, paired Wilcoxon test p = 0.03), regardless of atopic status and CC16 genotype. This increase was explained both by energy expenditure and different markers of DBP exposure in multivariate models. FeNO was unchanged overall but tended to decrease among atopics. We found no significant changes in lung function, SP-D, 8-isoprostane, 8 cytokines and VEGF.[CONCLUSIONS]: A slight increase in serum CC16, a marker of lung epithelium permeability, was detected in healthy adults after swimming in an indoor chlorinated pool. Exercise and DBP exposure explained this association, without involving inflammatory mechanisms.     Coherent millennial-scale patterns in Uk'37 and TEX86H temperature records during the penultimate interglacial-to-glacial cycle in the western Mediterranean

    The TEX86H temperature proxy is a relatively new proxy based on crenarchaeotal lipids and has rarely been applied together with other temperature proxies. In this study, we applied the TEX86H on a sediment core from the Alboran Sea (western Mediterranean, core ODP-977A) covering the penultimate climate cycle, that is, from 244 to 130 ka, and compared this with previously published sea surface temperatures derived from the U37k' of alkenones of haptophyta and Mg/Ca records of planktonic foraminifera. The TEX86H temperature record shows remarkably similar stadial-interstadial patterns and abrupt temperature changes to those observed with the U37k' palaeothermometer. Absolute TEX86H temperature estimates are generally higher than those of U37k', though this difference (<3°C in 81% of the data points) is mainly within the temperature calibration error for both proxies, suggesting that crenarchaeota and haptophyta experienced similar temperature variations. During occasional events (<5% of the analyzed time span), however, the TEX86H exhibits considerably higher absolute temperature estimates than the U37k'. Comparison with Mg/Ca records of planktonic foraminifera as well as other Mediterranean TEX86 and U37k' records suggests that part of this divergence may be attributed to seasonal differences, that is, with TEX86H reflecting mainly the warm summer season while U37k' would show annual mean. Biases in the global calibration of both proxies or specific biases in the Mediterranean are an alternative, though less likely, explanation. Despite differences between absolute TEX86H and U37k' temperatures, the correlation between the two proxies (r2 = 0.59, 95% significance) provides support for the occurrence of abrupt temperature variations in the western Mediterranean during the penultimate interglacial-to-glacial cycle

    Food and nutrition security discursive frames in the context of the Spanish economic crisis

    [EN] The recent economic crisis in Spain has provoked a number of food and nutrition security (FNS) impacts that have fuelled a fragmented landscape of food-related debates, although these have not taken the form of a coherent and allembracing public discussion on national food security. This paper is an inductive analysis of such debates, mostly based on media coverage, in an attempt to disentangle the different discourse frames on FNS in Spain, and the role played by the economic crisis in the shaping and underpinning of such frames. For this purpose a frame matrix was constructed, paying particular attention to the stakeholders governance claims in order to confront frame-specific problems. Results show how stakeholders have used elements of the crisis to underpin or reinterpret their core arguments. In addition, governance claims have concentrated on the malfunctioning of the food chain, mostly due to unequal bargaining power, and the way this could be putting at risk crucial components of the food system and future FNS.     Aplicativo de soporte para la valoración de modelos y estándares de calidad para el proceso de software

    En los últimos años han aparecido un gran número de estándares y propuestas internacionales y regionales relacionadas con mejora de procesos software (SPI) para micro y pequeñas empresas software (VSEs). Esto evidencia el creciente interés en la comunidad de Ingeniería de Software en abordar el tema de SPI para VSEs. Este creciente interés se suscita porque la industria del software en la mayoría de los países está formada en gran parte por este tipo de empresas. Es importante entonces fortalecer a las VSEs con prácticas y guías eficientes de Ingeniería de Software adaptadas a su tamaño y tipo de negocio.
