    Estrategias en la enseñanza de números enteros en la escuela secundaria.

    El tema objeto de esta investigación: Utilización de materiales manipulativos para la enseñanza de la suma de números enteros se realizado en un contexto de aprendizaje interesante; ya que se ha planteado ¿qué si efectivamente la manipulación de materiales ayuda a los estudiantes a comprender y verbalizar las reglas de la suma en el conjunto de los números enteros? Esta actividad pretende desarrollar las competencias de los estudiantes para que tomen el aprendizaje como una experiencia vivencial. El proceso de investigación se realizó a partir de una diagnosis inicial aplicada a estudiantes de séptimo grado y una encuesta a docentes. Esto permitió elaborar y aplicar una unidad didáctica dirigida a los educandos acerca de la suma en los números enteros dado que ésta fue la problemática detectada en este grado. La obtención y/o recopilación de la información durante la aplicación de la unidad didáctica fue a través de diversos instrumentos: observaciones, entrevistas, trabajos individuales, trabajos cooperativos, encuestas, estos instrumentos permitieron valorar y reflexionar sobre la forma en que se puede impartir el contenido de la suma en los enteros. Se hace una reflexión sobre la práctica educativa de los docentes. Se induce a una concepción abierta al cambio para mejorar el proceso enseñanza- aprendizaje de la matemática

    Neste trabalho apresentamos uma proposta de metodologia investigativa, com a fotografia como ferramenta decolonial, parte dos resultados de uma pesquisa realizada com mulheres de uma aldeia Guarani no estado do Rio de Janeiro. O artigo explica o método para identificar as produções do cotidiano da mulher Guarani Mbya utilizando a linguagem imagética da fotografia a partir do olhar-pensamento contracolonial proposto especialmente por Jaxuka, filha do cacique, que investiu na presentificação visual do passado invisibilizado. O presente artigo se atém a este recorte, apresentando variações do uso da fotografia enquanto recurso de presentificação do passado, estabelecendo reflexões referentes às narrativas de afirmação nelas contidas e sua relevância para os processos de transmissão intergeracional.In this paper we present a proposal for an investigative methodology, with photography as a decolonial tool, part of the results of research with women from a Guarani village in the State of Rio de Janeiro. The article explains the method for identify the everyday productions of the Guarani woman Mbya using the imaginary language of photography and reflecting from the postcolonial and decolonial thought proposed by Jaxuka, daughter of the cacique-was the visual presentism of the invisible past. The following article stick to this snippet presenting variations of the use of photography as a means of presentism the past, establishing reflections that refer to the affirmation narratives contained therein and their relevance to intergenerational transmission processes

    Is Xenopus laevis introduction linked with Ranavirus incursion, persistence and spread in Chile?

    Ranaviruses have been associated with amphibian, fish and reptile mortality events worldwide and with amphibian population declines in parts of Europe. Xenopus laevis is a widespread invasive amphibian species in Chile. Recently, Frog virus 3 (FV3), the type species of the Ranavirus genus, was detected in two wild populations of this frog near Santiago in Chile, however, the extent of ranavirus infection in this country remains unknown. To obtain more information about the origin of ranavirus in Chile, its distribution, species affected, and the role of invasive amphibians and freshwater fish in the epidemiology of ranavirus, a surveillance study comprising wild and farmed amphibians and wild fish over a large latitudinal gradient (2,500 km) was carried out in 2015–2017. In total, 1,752 amphibians and 496 fish were tested using a ranavirus-specific qPCR assay, and positive samples were analyzed for virus characterization through whole genome sequencing of viral DNA obtained from infected tissue. Ranavirus was detected at low viral loads in nine of 1,011 X. laevis from four populations in central Chile. No other amphibian or fish species tested were positive for ranavirus, suggesting ranavirus is not threatening native Chilean species yet. Phylogenetic analysis of partial ranavirus sequences showed 100% similarity with FV3. Our results show a restricted range of ranavirus infection in central Chile, coinciding with X. laevis presence, and suggest that FV3 may have entered the country through infected X. laevis, which appears to act as a competent reservoir host, and may contribute to the spread the virus locally as it invades new areas, and globally through the pet trade

    Vertical distribution of macrobenthic communities from a shipwreck in the Strait of Magellan: Distribución vertical de comunidades macrobentónicas en un naufragio del Estrecho de Magallanes

    Shipwrecks are artificial reefs that can enhance local diversity. In this study, the macrobenthic community associated with a shipwreck in the Strait of Magellan, the DAP Mares, is described for the first time. Species richness and functional group richness were estimated, and general linear models were used to test the prediction that diversity varied systematically with depth. The most speciose and abundant groups were echinoderms, molluscs, sponges, and tunicates. The most abundant trophic type was suspension feeders. Species richness changed significantly with depth, being similar between the upper and middle zones but decreasing at the deepest zone. Neither functional group richness nor functional dispersion (Rao’s quadratic entropy) varied with depth, suggesting that not all aspects of macrobenthic diversity respond equally to this variable. The biodiversity observed was consistent with that described for natural hard substrates in the Strait of Magellan. Thus, this vessel could represent a good model to study patterns of community structure

    Hospital Epidemics Tracker (HEpiTracker): Description and pilot study of a mobile app to track COVID-19 in hospital workers

    Background: Hospital workers have been the most frequently and severely affected professional group during the COVID-19 pandemic, and have a big impact on transmission. In this context, innovative tools are required to measure the symptoms compatible with COVID-19, the spread of infection, and testing capabilities within hospitals in real time. Objective: We aimed to develop and test an effective and user-friendly tool to identify and track symptoms compatible with COVID-19 in hospital workers. Methods: We developed and pilot tested Hospital Epidemics Tracker (HEpiTracker), a newly designed app to track the spread of COVID-19 among hospital workers. Hospital staff in 9 hospital centers across 5 Spanish regions (Andalusia, Balearics, Catalonia, Galicia, and Madrid) were invited to download the app on their phones and to register their daily body temperature, COVID-19-compatible symptoms, and general health score, as well as any polymerase chain reaction and serological test results. Results: A total of 477 hospital staff participated in the study between April 8 and June 2, 2020. Of note, both health-related (n=329) and non-health-related (n=148) professionals participated in the study; over two-thirds of participants (68.8%) were health workers (43.4% physicians and 25.4% nurses), while the proportion of non-health-related workers by center ranged from 40% to 85%. Most participants were female (n=323, 67.5%), with a mean age of 45.4 years (SD 10.6). Regarding smoking habits, 13.0% and 34.2% of participants were current or former smokers, respectively. The daily reporting of symptoms was highly variable across participating hospitals; although we observed a decline in adherence after an initial participation peak in some hospitals, other sites were characterized by low participation rates throughout the study period. Conclusions: HEpiTracker is an already available tool to monitor COVID-19 and other infectious diseases in hospital workers. This tool has already been tested in real conditions. HEpiTracker is available in Spanish, Portuguese, and English. It has the potential to become a customized asset to be used in future COVID-19 pandemic waves and other environments

    A flagship for Austral temperate forest conservation: an action plan for Darwin's frogs brings key stakeholders together

    Darwin’s frogs Rhinoderma darwinii and Rhinoderma rufum are the only known species of amphibians in which males brood their offspring in their vocal sacs. We propose these frogs as flagship species for the conservation of the Austral temperate forests of Chile and Argentina. This recommendation forms part of the vision of the Binational Conservation Strategy for Darwin’s Frogs, which was launched in 2018. The strategy is a conservation initiative led by the IUCN SSC Amphibian Specialist Group, which in 2017 convened 30 governmental, non-profit and private organizations from Chile, Argentina and elsewhere. Darwin’s frogs are iconic examples of the global amphibian conservation crisis: R. rufum is categorized as Critically Endangered (Possibly Extinct) on the IUCN Red List, and R. darwinii as Endangered. Here we articulate the conservation planning process that led to the development of the conservation strategy for these species and present its main findings and recommendations. Using an evidence-based approach, the Binational Conservation Strategy for Darwin’s Frogs contains a comprehensive status review of Rhinoderma spp., including critical threat analyses, and proposes 39 prioritized conservation actions. Its goal is that by 2028, key information gaps on Rhinoderma spp. will be filled, the main threats to these species will be reduced, and financial, legal and societal support will have been achieved. The strategy is a multi-disciplinary, transnational endeavour aimed at ensuring the long-term viability of these unique frogs and their particular habitat
