    Quality of life of patients with pancreatic cysts after surgical treatment

S-a stabilit că la pacienţii cu rezultate bune după tratament laparoscopic s-a înregistrat o creştere a ICV după scala MOS-SF-36, în timp ce la pacienţii cu rezultate bune după tratament chirurgical nu s-a notat o îmbunătăţire fizică şi psihologică. Rezultatele satisfăcătoare după tratamentul chirurgical laparoscopic s-au caracterizat prin îmbunătăţirea a cinci din opt criterii (au fost excluse scorurile ce caracterizează funcţionarea fizică personală, de sănătate generală şi psihică). Rezultate satisfăcătoare de îmbunătăţire după intervenţii chirurgicale tradiţionale au fost observate doar în raport cu scorul de durere şi de activitate vitală.Summary: The indices of quality of life (QL) of patients suffered from pancreatic cysts with different surgical technology and different clinical outcomes have been analyzed. It was established that in patients with good result after laparoscopic treatment the improvement of QL was registered on all scales of MOS-SF-36 questionnaire, while î in patients with good results after traditional treatment there was not improvement determined by physical functioning and psychological health scales. Satisfactory results of treatment after laparoscopic surgery were characterized by the improvement on five out from eight scales (such scales as personal physical functioning, general and psychological health have been excluded). Satisfactory results after traditional surgery the improvement was noted only on pain and vital activity scales

    MicroRNA-96 Directly Inhibits γ-Globin Expression in Human Erythropoiesis

    Fetal hemoglobin, HbF (α2γ2), is the main hemoglobin synthesized up to birth, but it subsequently declines and adult hemoglobin, HbA (α2β2), becomes predominant. Several studies have indicated that expression of the HbF subunit γ-globin might be regulated post-transcriptionally. This could be confered by ∼22-nucleotide long microRNAs that associate with argonaute proteins to specifically target γ-globin mRNAs and inhibit protein expression. Indeed, applying immunopurifications, we found that γ-globin mRNA was associated with argonaute 2 isolated from reticulocytes that contain low levels of HbF (<1%), whereas association was significantly lower in reticulocytes with high levels of HbF (90%). Comparing microRNA expression in reticulocytes from cord blood and adult blood, we identified several miRNAs that were preferentially expressed in adults, among them miRNA-96. The overexpression of microRNA-96 in human ex vivo erythropoiesis decreased γ-globin expression by 50%, whereas the knock-down of endogenous microRNA-96 increased γ-globin expression by 20%. Moreover, luciferase reporter assays showed that microRNA-96 negatively regulates expression of γ-globin in HEK293 cells, which depends on a seedless but highly complementary target site located within the coding sequence of γ-globin. Based on these results we conclude that microRNA-96 directly suppresses γ-globin expression and thus contributes to HbF regulation

    QCD and strongly coupled gauge theories : challenges and perspectives

    We highlight the progress, current status, and open challenges of QCD-driven physics, in theory and in experiment. We discuss how the strong interaction is intimately connected to a broad sweep of physical problems, in settings ranging from astrophysics and cosmology to strongly coupled, complex systems in particle and condensed-matter physics, as well as to searches for physics beyond the Standard Model. We also discuss how success in describing the strong interaction impacts other fields, and, in turn, how such subjects can impact studies of the strong interaction. In the course of the work we offer a perspective on the many research streams which flow into and out of QCD, as well as a vision for future developments.Peer reviewe

    Evidence for the decay BS0K0μ+μ {B}_S^0\to {\overline{K}}^{\ast 0}{\mu}^{+}{\mu}^{-}

    International audienceA search for the decay BS0K0μ+μ {B}_S^0\to {\overline{K}}^{\ast 0}{\mu}^{+}{\mu}^{-} is presented using data sets corresponding to 1.0, 2.0 and 1.6 fb1^{−1} of integrated luminosity collected during pp collisions with the LHCb experiment at centre-of-mass energies of 7, 8 and 13 TeV, respectively. An excess is found over the background-only hypothesis with a significance of 3.4 standard deviations. The branching fraction of the BS0K0μ+μ {B}_S^0\to {\overline{K}}^{\ast 0}{\mu}^{+}{\mu}^{-} decay is determined to be B(Bs0K0μ+μ)=[2.9±1.0(stat)±0.2(syst)±0.3(norm)]×108 \mathrm{\mathcal{B}}\left({B}_s^0\to {\overline{K}}^{\ast 0}{\mu}^{+}{\mu}^{-}\right)=\left[2.9\pm 1.0\left(\mathrm{stat}\right)\pm 0.2\left(\mathrm{syst}\right)\pm 0.3\left(\mathrm{norm}\right)\right]\times {10}^{-8} , where the first and second uncertainties are statistical and systematic, respectively. The third uncertainty is due to limited knowledge of external parameters used to normalise the branching fraction measurement
