Industrial Applications of Laser Neutron Source
The industrial applications of the intense neutron source have been widely explored because of the unique features of the neutron-matter interaction. Usually, intense neutron sources are assembled with fission reactors or high energy ion accelerators. The big size and high cost of these systems are the bottle neck to promote the industrial applications of intense neutrons. In this paper, we propose the compact laser driven neutron source for the industrial application. As the first step of our project for the versatile applications of laser driven neutron source, Li-neutron and/or Li-proton interactions have been investigated for the application to the development of Li battery

Kinetic temperatures toward X1/X2 orbit interceptions regions and Giant Molecular Loops in the Galactic center region
Context: It is well known that the kinetic temperatures, Tkin, of the
molecular clouds in the Galactic center region are higher than in typical disk
clouds. However, the Tkin of the molecular complexes found at higher latitudes
towards the giant molecular loops in the central region of the Galaxy is so far
unknown. The gas of these high latitude molecular clouds (hereafter referred to
as halo clouds) is located in a region where the gas in the disk may interact
with the gas in the halo in the Galactic center region.
Aims: To derive Tkin in the molecular clouds at high latitude and understand
the physical process responsible for the heating of the molecular gas both in
the Central Molecular Zone (the concentration of molecular gas in the inner 500
pc) and in the giant molecular loops.
Methods: We measured the metastable inversion transitions of NH3 from (1,1)
to (6,6) toward six positions selected throughout the Galactic central disk and
halo. We used rotational diagrams and large velocity gradient modeling to
estimate the kinetic temperatures toward all the sources. We also observed
other molecules like SiO, HNCO, CS, C34S, C18O, and 13CO, to derive the
densities and to trace different physical processes (shocks, photodissociation,
dense gas) expected to dominate the heating of the molecular gas.
Results: We derive for the first time Tkin of the high latitude clouds
interacting with the disk in the Galactic center region. We find high
rotational temperatures in all the observed positions. We derive two kinetic
temperature components (150 K and 40 K) for the positions in the Central
Molecular Zone, and only the warm kinetic temperature component for the clouds
toward the giant molecular loops. The fractional abundances derived from the
different molecules suggest that shocks provide the main heating mechanism
throughout the Galactic center, also at high latitudesComment: accepted for publication in A&A 06/09/201
Magnetization plateaux in dimerized spin ladder arrays
We investigate the ground state magnetization plateaux appearing in spin 1/2
two-leg ladders built up from dimerized antiferromagnetic Heisenberg chains and
dimerized zig-zag interchain couplings. Using both Abelian bosonization and
Lanczos methods we find that the system yields rather unusual plateaux and
exhibits massive and massless phases for specific choices or ``tuning'' of
exchange interactions. The relevance of this behavior in the study of
NH_4CuCl_3 is discussed.Comment: 9 pages, RevTeX, 11 postscript figure
Time-dependent modeling of pulsar wind nebulae: Study on the impact of the diffusion-loss approximations
In this work, we present a leptonic, time-dependent model of pulsar wind
nebulae (PWNe). The model seeks a solution for the lepton distribution function
considering the full time-energy dependent diffusion-loss equation. The
time-dependent lepton population is balanced by injection, energy losses, and
escape. We include synchrotron, inverse Compton (IC, with the cosmic-microwave
background as well as with IR/optical photon fields), self-synchrotron Compton
(SSC), and bremsstrahlung processes, all devoid of any radiative
approximations. With this model in place we focus on the Crab nebula as an
example and present its time dependent evolution. Afterwards, we analyze the
impact of different approximations made at the level of the diffusion-loss
equation, as can be found in the literature. Whereas previous models ignored
the escape term, e.g., with the diffusion-loss equation becoming advective,
others approximated the losses as catastrophic, so that the equation has only
time derivatives. Additional approximations are also described and computed. We
show which is the impact of these approaches in the determination of the PWN
evolution. In particular, we find the time-dependent deviation of the
multi-wavelength spectrum and the best-fit parameters obtained with the
complete and the approximate models.Comment: In press in MNRA
Stopping of α particles from the core in corona plasmas
In the laser fusion reactor design, the protection of first wall and the final optics from high energy ions is the key issue. So, it is necessary to predict the precise energy spectra of ions.In the previous reactor designs, the ion energy spectra were provided by the classical ion transport codes. However, this poster shows that the α particle spectrum is significantly modified by the anomalous process in ablated plasmas
Rotational Broadening and Doppler Tomography of the Quiescent X-Ray Nova Centaurus X-4
We present high and intermediate resolution spectroscopy of the X-ray nova
Centaurus X-4 during its quiescent phase. Our analysis of the absorption
features supports a K3-K5V spectral classification for the companion star,
which contributes approximately 75 % of the total flux at Halpha. Using the
high resolution spectra we have measured the secondary star's rotational
broadening to be V_rot*sin(i) = 43 +/- 6 km/s and determined a binary mass
ratio of q=0.17 +/- 0.06. Combining our results for K_2 and q with the
published limits for the binary inclination, we constrain the mass of the
compact object and the secondary star to the ranges 0.49 < M_1 < 2.49 Msun and
0.04 < M_2 < 0.58 Msun. A Doppler image of the Halpha line shows emission
coming from the secondary star, but no hotspot is present. We discuss the
possible origins of this emission.Comment: 10 pages, 4 figures, accepted by MNRA
