    Objetivo:Identificar a preval?ncia de anemia em crian?as menores de 60 meses e seus fatores condicionantes, em Minas Gerais. M?todos: Estudo transversal com amostra probabil?stica de 725 crian?as menores de 60 meses de idade, de ambos os sexos, realizado entre fevereiro de 2007 e julho de 2008, em Minas Gerais. Por meio de inqu?rito domiciliar aplicado aos respons?veis pelas crian?as, foram obtidas informa??es sobre as condi??es socioecon?micas, demogr?ficas e situa??o de seguran?a alimentar, bem como obtidas as medidas antropom?tricas. A dosagem de hemoglobina foi analisada em hemoglobin?metro port?til, considerando-se como anemia valor <11,0 g/ dL. A an?lise estat?stica estimou a preval?ncia da anemia e sua associa??o com condi??es socioecon?micas, demogr?ficas e seguran?a alimentar. O modelo foi ajustado por regress?o log?stica multivariada. Adotou-se p<0,05 como n?vel cr?tico para definir signific?ncia estat?stica. Resultados: A preval?ncia de anemia foi de 37,4%. A maior preval?ncia ocorreu na faixa et?ria de 6 a 24 meses (43,0%). As vari?veis associadas foram: sexo feminino (RP=1,43; p<0,026); idade (RP=1,53; p<0,024) e n?o frequentar creche (RP=2,41; p<0,001). No modelo de regress?o multivariada, permaneceram as vari?veis sexo feminino e n?o frequentar creche. Conclus?o: O presente estudo, de base populacional, mostrou que em Minas Gerais um ter?o das crian?as (37,5%) com menos de 60 meses de idade apresentava anemia ferropriva. Os resultados revelaram que n?o frequentar creche e ser do sexo feminino configuram situa??es de risco ? ocorr?ncia de anemia.Objective: To identify the prevalence of iron-deficiency anemia in children aged less than 60 months and the conditioning factors in Minas Gerais, Brazil. Methods This cross-sectional study conducted from February 2007 to July 2008 in Minas Gerais included a random sample of 725 male and female children aged less than 60 months. A household survey was administered to the children?s parents or guardians to collect socioeconomic, demographic, food security, and the child?s anthropometric data. The hemoglobin level was determined by a portable hemoglobin meter. Anemia was considered present when hemoglobin levels were below 11.0 g/dL. Statistical analyses estimated the prevalence of anemia and its association with socioeconomic, demographic, and food security-related variables. The model was adjusted by multivariate logistic regression. The significance level was set at 5% (p<0.05). Results The prevalence of anemia was 37.4%. The greatest prevalence occurred in the age group 6 to 24 months (43.0%). The associated variables were being female (PR=1.43; p<0.026); age (PR=1.53; p<0.024); and not frequenting a daycare center (PR=2.41; p<0.001). In the multivariate regression model, the variables being female and not frequenting a daycare center remained in the model. Conclusion The present population-based study found that in Minas Gerais, one-third (37.5%) of the children aged less than 60 months have iron-deficiency anemia. The results show that not frequenting a daycare center and being female are risk factors for anemia

    NEOTROPICAL ALIEN MAMMALS: a data set of occurrence and abundance of alien mammals in the Neotropics

    Biological invasion is one of the main threats to native biodiversity. For a species to become invasive, it must be voluntarily or involuntarily introduced by humans into a nonnative habitat. Mammals were among first taxa to be introduced worldwide for game, meat, and labor, yet the number of species introduced in the Neotropics remains unknown. In this data set, we make available occurrence and abundance data on mammal species that (1) transposed a geographical barrier and (2) were voluntarily or involuntarily introduced by humans into the Neotropics. Our data set is composed of 73,738 historical and current georeferenced records on alien mammal species of which around 96% correspond to occurrence data on 77 species belonging to eight orders and 26 families. Data cover 26 continental countries in the Neotropics, ranging from Mexico and its frontier regions (southern Florida and coastal-central Florida in the southeast United States) to Argentina, Paraguay, Chile, and Uruguay, and the 13 countries of Caribbean islands. Our data set also includes neotropical species (e.g., Callithrix sp., Myocastor coypus, Nasua nasua) considered alien in particular areas of Neotropics. The most numerous species in terms of records are from Bos sp. (n = 37,782), Sus scrofa (n = 6,730), and Canis familiaris (n = 10,084); 17 species were represented by only one record (e.g., Syncerus caffer, Cervus timorensis, Cervus unicolor, Canis latrans). Primates have the highest number of species in the data set (n = 20 species), partly because of uncertainties regarding taxonomic identification of the genera Callithrix, which includes the species Callithrix aurita, Callithrix flaviceps, Callithrix geoffroyi, Callithrix jacchus, Callithrix kuhlii, Callithrix penicillata, and their hybrids. This unique data set will be a valuable source of information on invasion risk assessments, biodiversity redistribution and conservation-related research. There are no copyright restrictions.     NEOTROPICAL CARNIVORES: a data set on carnivore distribution in the Neotropics

    Mammalian carnivores are considered a key group in maintaining ecological health and can indicate potential ecological integrity in landscapes where they occur. Carnivores also hold high conservation value and their habitat requirements can guide management and conservation plans. The order Carnivora has 84 species from 8 families in the Neotropical region: Canidae; Felidae; Mephitidae; Mustelidae; Otariidae; Phocidae; Procyonidae; and Ursidae. Herein, we include published and unpublished data on native terrestrial Neotropical carnivores (Canidae; Felidae; Mephitidae; Mustelidae; Procyonidae; and Ursidae). NEOTROPICAL CARNIVORES is a publicly available data set that includes 99,605 data entries from 35,511 unique georeferenced coordinates. Detection/non-detection and quantitative data were obtained from 1818 to 2018 by researchers, governmental agencies, non-governmental organizations, and private consultants. Data were collected using several methods including camera trapping, museum collections, roadkill, line transect, and opportunistic records. Literature (peer-reviewed and grey literature) from Portuguese, Spanish and English were incorporated in this compilation. Most of the data set consists of detection data entries (n = 79,343; 79.7%) but also includes non-detection data (n = 20,262; 20.3%). Of those, 43.3% also include count data (n = 43,151). The information available in NEOTROPICAL CARNIVORES will contribute to macroecological, ecological, and conservation questions in multiple spatio-temporal perspectives. As carnivores play key roles in trophic interactions, a better understanding of their distribution and habitat requirements are essential to establish conservation management plans and safeguard the future ecological health of Neotropical ecosystems. Our data paper, combined with other large-scale data sets, has great potential to clarify species distribution and related ecological processes within the Neotropics. There are no copyright restrictions and no restriction for using data from this data paper, as long as the data paper is cited as the source of the information used.     Search for top squarks in the four-body decay mode with single lepton final states in proton-proton collisions at s= \sqrt{s}= 13 TeV

    A search for the pair production of the lightest supersymmetric partner of the top quark, the top squark (t~1 \tilde{\mathrm{t}}_{1} ), is presented. The search targets the four-body decay of the t~1 \tilde{\mathrm{t}}_{1} , which is preferred when the mass difference between the top squark and the lightest supersymmetric particle is smaller than the mass of the W boson. This decay mode consists of a bottom quark, two other fermions, and the lightest neutralino (χ~10 \tilde{\chi}_{1}^{0} ), which is assumed to be the lightest supersymmetric particle. The data correspond to an integrated luminosity of 138 fb1 ^{-1} of proton-proton collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV collected by the CMS experiment at the CERN LHC. Events are selected using the presence of a high-momentum jet, an electron or muon with low transverse momentum, and a significant missing transverse momentum. The signal is selected based on a multivariate approach that is optimized for the difference between m(t~1) m(\tilde{\mathrm{t}}_{1}) and m(χ~10) m(\tilde{\chi}_{1}^{0}) . The contribution from leading background processes is estimated from data. No significant excess is observed above the expectation from standard model processes.     An inclusive search for long-lived exotic particles decaying to a pair of muons is presented. The search uses data collected by the CMS experiment at the CERN LHC in proton-proton collisions at s \sqrt{s} = 13 TeV in 2016 and 2018 and corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 97.6 fb1^{−1}. The experimental signature is a pair of oppositely charged muons originating from a common secondary vertex spatially separated from the pp interaction point by distances ranging from several hundred μm to several meters. The results are interpreted in the frameworks of the hidden Abelian Higgs model, in which the Higgs boson decays to a pair of long-lived dark photons ZD_{D}, and of a simplified model, in which long-lived particles are produced in decays of an exotic heavy neutral scalar boson. For the hidden Abelian Higgs model with m(ZD_{D}) greater than 20 GeV and less than half the mass of the Higgs boson, they provide the best limits to date on the branching fraction of the Higgs boson to dark photons for cτ(ZD_{D}) (varying with m(ZD_{D})) between 0.03 and ≈0.5 mm, and above ≈0.5 m. Our results also yield the best constraints on long-lived particles with masses larger than 10 GeV produced in decays of an exotic scalar boson heavier than the Higgs boson and decaying to a pair of muons.[graphic not available: see fulltext

    Search for CPCP violation in ttH and tH production in multilepton channels in proton-proton collisions at s\sqrt{s} = 13 TeV

    International audienceThe charge-parity (CP) structure of the Yukawa interaction between the Higgs (H) boson and the top quark is measured in a data sample enriched in the tt \overline{\textrm{t}} H and tH associated production, using 138 fb1^{−1} of data collected in proton-proton collisions at s \sqrt{s} = 13 TeV by the CMS experiment at the CERN LHC. The study targets events where the H boson decays via H → WW or H → ττ and the top quarks decay via t → Wb: the W bosons decay either leptonically or hadronically, and final states characterized by the presence of at least two leptons are studied. Machine learning techniques are applied to these final states to enhance the separation of CP -even from CP -odd scenarios. Two-dimensional confidence regions are set on κt_{t} and κt \overset{\sim }{\kappa } _{t}, which are respectively defined as the CP -even and CP -odd top-Higgs Yukawa coupling modifiers. No significant fractional CP -odd contributions, parameterized by the quantity |fCPHtt {f}_{CP}^{\textrm{Htt}} | are observed; the parameter is determined to be |fCPHtt {f}_{CP}^{\textrm{Htt}} | = 0.59 with an interval of (0.24, 0.81) at 68% confidence level. The results are combined with previous results covering the H → ZZ and H → γγ decay modes, yielding two- and one-dimensional confidence regions on κt_{t} and κt \overset{\sim }{\kappa } _{t}, while |fCPHtt {f}_{CP}^{\textrm{Htt}} | is determined to be |fCPHtt {f}_{CP}^{\textrm{Htt}} | = 0.28 with an interval of |fCPHtt {f}_{CP}^{\textrm{Htt}} | < 0.55 at 68% confidence level, in agreement with the standard model CP -even prediction of |fCPHtt {f}_{CP}^{\textrm{Htt}} | = 0.[graphic not available: see fulltext
