The effects of storage duration, temperature and cultivar on the severity of garlic clove rot caused by Fusarium proliferatum.
Diseases that affect garlic during storage can lead to severe economic losses for farmers worldwide. One causal agent of clove rot is Fusarium proliferatum. Here, the progress of clove rot caused by F. proliferatum and its dependence on different storage conditions and cultivar type were studied. The effect of temperature on mycelial
growth,
conidial
viability,
and
fungal
survival
during
garlic
commercial
storage
was
documented.
Samples
of
50
bulbs
from
a
randomized
field
trial
with
three
different
clonal
generations
for
purple
garlic
(F3,
F4
and
F5)
and
the
F4
clonal
generation
for
white
garlic
were
labeled
and
stored
for
two
months
(short-term
storage).
In
addition,
another
sample
of
the
F5
clonal
generation
of
purple
garlic
was
stored
for
6
months
after
harvest
(long-term
storage).
The
presence
of
the
pathogen
and
the
percentage
of
symptomatic
cloves
were
evaluated.
A
notable
difference
in
the
rot
severity
index
(RSI)
of
different
garlic
varieties
was
observed.
In
all
studied
cases,
clove
rot
increased
with
storage
time
at
20
◦
C,
and
the
white
garlic
variety
had
a
higher
index
of
rot
severity
after
two
months
of
storage.
Additionally,
there
were
clear
differences
between
the
growth
rates
of
F.
proliferatum
isolates.
Studies
conducted
on
the
temperature
responses
of
the
pathogen
propagules
showed
that
expo-
sure
for
at
least
20
min
at
50
◦
C
was
highly
effective
in
significantly
reducing
the
viability
of
fungal
conidia.
Pathogenicity
studies
showed
that
the
fungus
is
pathogenic
in
all
commercial
varieties.
However,
there
were
significant
differences
in
varietal
susceptibility
between
Chinese
and
white
garlic
type
cultivars
(81.84
±
16.44%
and
87.5
±
23.19%
symptomatic
cloves,
respectively)
and
purple
cultivars
(49.06
±
13.42%
symptomatic
cloves
Nuevos registros de Harpacticoideos (Crustacea, Copepoda) en un sistema costero del norte de Colombia
Three species of harpacticoids are herein recorded from the zooplankton of Rodadero beach, Santa Marta, Magdalena, Colombia. Samples were collected from the littoral zone, mainly at inshore areas covered by mangrove vegetation and in an adjacent oyster bank. One of them, Laophonte cornuta Philippi, 1840 is new to the Colombian harpacticoid fauna, the other two species: Distioculus minor (Scott T., 1894) and Microsetella norvegica (Boeck, 1865) are new reports to the Magdalena department. This is the first illustrated record confirming their presence in Colombia and Magdalena, northern Colombia. Comparative morphological comments and illustrations of these species are also provided to document this report.Se registran tres especies de harpacticoides en el zooplancton de playa Rodadero, Santa Marta, Magdalena, norte de Colombia. Se recolectaron muestras en la zona litoral, principalmente en áreas costeras de manglar y en un banco de ostras. Pediatric nasal reconstruction with frontal flap: a case report
Authors presented the case of a 4-year-old male patient who suffered a dog bite on his face with partial amputation of the nasal tip, managed at another institution conservatively, so that one year after the injury he came for the nasal deformity. A frontal flap was performed for reconstruction achieving excellent results, coverage was achieved with similar characteristics of the skin as color and texture. The patient had a follow-up of 5 years with an appropriate course. Authors presented the case due to few reports in the literature of its use in children, where it can be observed that it is an excellent reconstructive tool
Supersymmetric particle mass measurement with the boost-corrected contransverse mass
A modification to the contransverse mass (MCT) technique for measuring the
masses of pair-produced semi-invisibly decaying heavy particles is proposed in
which MCT is corrected for non-zero boosts of the centre-of-momentum (CoM)
frame of the heavy states in the laboratory transverse plane. Lack of knowledge
of the mass of the CoM frame prevents exact correction for this boost, however
it is shown that a conservative correction can nevertheless be derived which
always generates an MCT value which is less than or equal to the true value of
MCT in the CoM frame. The new technique is demonstrated with case studies of
mass measurement with fully leptonic ttbar events and with SUSY events

Comparison of Functional Outcomes Between the First and Second Knee in Staged Bilateral Total Knee Arthroplasty With Diverse Intervals Between Stages
Background: The objective of the study was to analyze if the length of interval time between stages influenced functional and quality of life outcomes in patients with staged bilateral primary total knee arthroplasty (TKA). Methods: This is a retrospective comparative study between 93 patients with an interval between stages of 6-8 months (6-month group), 112 of 12-14 months (1-year group), and 108 of 24-26 months (2-year group). Outcome variables were Knee Society scores, Western Ontario and McMaster Universities, Short Form, and patient satisfaction. Results: Overall, the mean follow-up for the first TKA was 8.2 (range, 7-10) years, and for the second TKA, 6.7 (range, 5-10) years. At last follow-up, functional and patient-related outcomes were similar for both knees, regardless of the interval. However, mental score and patient satisfaction were significantly better for the second than for the first TKA in the 2-year group. Age did not correlate significantly with the functional scores but was significantly correlated with the mental score. Conclusion: The performing staged bilateral TKA with a wide interval between surgeries provided equivalent functional outcomes and quality of life for both knees. Postoperative outcomes were not affected by the length of the time interval between procedures or age. Our results can help the surgeon to inform the patients reliably about what they can expect in the delay of a second knee replaced. Thus, patients could make an informed decision
Multimodality in galaxy clusters from SDSS DR8: substructure and velocity distribution
We search for the presence of substructure, a non-Gaussian, asymmetrical
velocity distribution of galaxies, and large peculiar velocities of the main
galaxies in galaxy clusters with at least 50 member galaxies, drawn from the
SDSS DR8. We employ a number of 3D, 2D, and 1D tests to analyse the
distribution of galaxies in clusters: 3D normal mixture modelling, the
Dressler-Shectman test, the Anderson-Darling and Shapiro-Wilk tests and others.
We find the peculiar velocities of the main galaxies, and use principal
component analysis to characterise our results. More than 80% of the clusters
in our sample have substructure according to 3D normal mixture modelling, the
Dressler-Shectman (DS) test shows substructure in about 70% of the clusters.
The median value of the peculiar velocities of the main galaxies in clusters is
206 km/s (41% of the rms velocity). The velocities of galaxies in more than 20%
of the clusters show significant non-Gaussianity. While multidimensional normal
mixture modelling is more sensitive than the DS test in resolving substructure
in the sky distribution of cluster galaxies, the DS test determines better
substructure expressed as tails in the velocity distribution of galaxies.
Richer, larger, and more luminous clusters have larger amount of substructure
and larger (compared to the rms velocity) peculiar velocities of the main
galaxies. Principal component analysis of both the substructure indicators and
the physical parameters of clusters shows that galaxy clusters are complicated
objects, the properties of which cannot be explained with a small number of
parameters or delimited by one single test. The presence of substructure, the
non-Gaussian velocity distributions, as well as the large peculiar velocities
of the main galaxies, shows that most of the clusters in our sample are

Cognitive clusters in first-episode psychosis
Impairments in a broad range of cognitive domains have been consistently reported in some individuals with first-episode psychosis (FEP). Cognitive deficits can be observed during the prodromal stage. However, the course of cognitive deficits is still unclear. The aim of this study was to identify cognitive subgroups over time and to compare their sociodemographic, clinical and functional profiles. A total of 114 patients with Schizophrenia Spectrum Disorders were included in the present study. We assessed subjects through psychiatric scales and eight neuropsychological tests at baseline and at two-year follow-up visit. We performed the Partition Around Medoids algorithm with all cognitive variables. Furthermore, we performed a logistic regression to identify the predictors related to the different cognitive clusters at follow-up. Two distinct subgroups were found: the first cluster characterized by cognitive impairment and a second cluster had relatively intact cognition in comparison with norms. Up to 54.7% of patients with cognitive deficits at baseline tended to improve during the first two years of treatment. Patients with intact cognition at follow-up had a higher socioeconomic status, later age of onset, lower negative symptoms and a higher cognitive reserve (CR) at baseline. CR and age of onset were the baseline variables that predicted cognitive impairment. This research allows us to obtain a better understanding of the heterogeneous profile of psychotic disorders. Identifying the characteristics of patients who will present a cognitive impairment could improve early detection and intervention. These results suggest that enhancing CR could contribute to improving the course of the illness
Tuba, a Novel Protein Containing Bin/Amphiphysin/Rvs and Dbl Homology Domains, Links Dynamin to Regulation of the Actin Cytoskeleton
Tuba is a novel scaffold protein that functions to bring together dynamin with actin regulatory proteins. It is concentrated at synapses in brain and binds dynamin selectively through four N-terminal Src homology-3 (SH3) domains. Tuba binds a variety of actin regulatory proteins, including N-WASP, CR16, WAVE1, WIRE, PIR121, NAP1, and Ena/VASP proteins, via a C-terminal SH3 domain. Direct binding partners include N-WASP and Ena/VASP proteins. Forced targeting of the C-terminal SH3 domain to the mitochondrial surface can promote accumulation of F-actin around mitochondria. A Dbl homology domain present in the middle of Tuba upstream of a Bin/amphiphysin/Rvs (BAR) domain activates Cdc42, but not Rac and Rho, and may thus cooperate with the C terminus of the protein in regulating actin assembly. The BAR domain, a lipid-binding module, may functionally replace the pleckstrin homology domain that typically follows a Dbl homology domain. The properties of Tuba provide new evidence for a close functional link between dynamin, Rho GTPase signaling, and the actin cytoskeleton
Subsistema de recolección de elementos de hardware integrado a un sistema de gestión, inventario y monitoreo de hardware con alertas automáticas (S.R.E.H.)
S.R.E.H. permite recolectar información de distintos elementos de hardware en una estación de trabajo. Trabaja tanto en sistemas operativos GNU/Linux como en Windows.
Estos datos recolectados son base para un monitoreo de los equipos.

Inventario seguro con alertas automáticas en ambientes informáticos de activos TI (I.S.A.)
Actualmente, diversos organismos que poseen una gran plataforma de dispositivos en
su red, se encuentran con la problemática de llevar un inventario actualizado e
informatizado, que les permita mantener la trazabilidad de éstos; lo complejo es la
generación de alertas automáticas a los continuos cambios. La idea de resolver lo antes
mencionado se gestó en uno de los laboratorios de la universidad, frente a la necesidad de
tener control sobre el hardware instalado en los gabinetes de clases y laboratorios de
investigación. De acuerdo con la exhaustiva exploración realizada sobre las aplicaciones
propietarias y de código abierto que permiten inventariar y/o administrar el hardware de un
sistema informático disponibles en mercado a la fecha, y luego de analizar las prestaciones
de las mismas comparándolas y adecuándolas a los requerimientos del proyecto de
investigación, se decidió utilizar los datos obtenidos por una aplicación de código abierto y
libre disposición como soporte para la generación de las bases de datos que utilizará el
subsistema a desarrollar, pues ésta permite visualizar el inventario a través de una interfaz
web, pero no llevar registros sucesivos de la información que genera, es decir no genera un
historial del hardware inventariado. Se trabajó en máquinas virtuales con sistemas
operativos y software GNU necesarios para las pruebas, y sustentando el estudio con el
empleo del método empírico. Este desarrollo, que será escalable, se integrará para
optimizar y completar una suite de herramientas que ya funcionan en el laboratorio. El
propósito es lograr un sistema integral, vía web, que sea de libre uso y de fácil acceso para
cualquier organismo que lo requiera, haciendo hincapié en brindar un sistema seguro y de muy bajo costo, que genere alertas automáticas y registro de historial, contribuyendo al
desarrollo de recursos humanos específicos en éstas temáticas por un lado, y por el otro
colaborar a la seguridad, principalmente en las instituciones públicas del país donde
generalmente se sufre sustracciones indetectables por parte de intrusos. Esto responde a
que la aplicación permitirá el monitoreo para generar alertas automáticas del activo
informático de estos entes en forma gratuita; al tratarse de un software de código abierto,
todo aquel que desee implementar el sistema podrá acceder a la aplicación y su código,
como así también adaptarlo para la estructura del ambiente informático sobre el cual lo
