Treball de Final de Grau en Química. Codi: QU0943. Curs acadèmic 2015-2016This investigation is focused on the analysis of the effect of Al co-doping on the reactivity, formation, color properties and performance as ceramic pigments of cobalt-doped karrooite (MgTi2O5), geikielite (MgTiO3) and qandilite (MgTi2O4) solid solutions. With this aim, different solid solutions (Mg0,8-xCox)Al0,4Ti1,8O5, (Mg0,8-xCox)Al0,4Ti0,8O3 and (Mg1,8-xCox)Al0,4Ti0,8O4 were prepared with x=0,1 and x=0,2 through the use of citrates-gel MOD method. The homogenous raw xerogels were first charred at 500 ºC/1h and then fired directly at 1000 and 1200 ºC. The fired pigments were characterized by means of X-ray diffraction (XRD), optical spectroscopy (UV-vis-NIR) and CIE-L*a*b* colorimetry (also with samples enameled in different glazes). XRD confirmed the total formation of karroite solid solutions of (Mg0,8-xCox)Al0,4Ti1,8O5 at 1200 ºC and the presence of secondary phase rutile at 1000 ºC. On the other hand, regarding to geikielite, the solid solutions (Mg0,8-xCox)Al0,4Ti0,8O3 did not form completely on account of the formation of MgAl2O4 spinel. The large amount of Al3+ favors the formation of Mg spinel, geikielite is form accompanied by two secondary phases karroite and MgAl2O4 spinel. Finally, qandilite solid solutions (Mg1,8-xCox)Al0,4Ti0,8O4) also formed successfully, although accompanied by minor amounts of secondary phases, geikielite in greater proportion and MgAl2O4 spinel. In this case, the samples were subsequently fired at 1400 ºC, leading to a higher amount of qandilite phase, with only small amounts of residual geikielite. The optical properties and performance as ceramic pigments were evaluated by UV-vis-NIR spectroscopy and CIE-L*a*b* color measurements applying them in different industrial double-firing transparent glazes (glaze A and B). The pigments exhibit slight greater stability using the glaze with high temperature (1050 ºC, high Ca and Zn content and free of Pb), these present a greenish-blue color. The blue color is associated with Co2+ in tetrahedral environments

At present, the analysis of the results of advertising and marketing studies is done qualitatively in terms of the experience of a marketing analyst, thus generating little certainty and uncertainty of the effectiveness of the feelings and the message emitted. Brands are connected with the idea that the sender wants to transmit. For this, the marketing has studied the behavior of the consumer when exposed to different advertising stimuli, in order to understand the behavior at the time of the stimulus and to achieve alignment of the message to be transmitted with what is actually perceived. In this paper we propose a vector model based on computational intelligence and Neuromarketing studies that allows the identification of four basic emotions: joy, fear, anger and sadness from the bioelectric brain activity recorded by a person exposed to a certain audiovisual advertising. The results of the model allowed the identification of emotions in audiovisual advertising, which constitutes a tool that allows companies to create audiovisual advertising that guarantees greater commitment and effectiveness of the advertising segments with which it wants to impact the marketKeywords: Neuromarketing, audiovisual advertising, basic emotions, neural networks, Emotiv-EPOC®, vector support machine

Characterization of the Yarrowia lipolytica YlSRP72 gene, a component of the yeast signal recognition particle

The Yarrowia lipolytica SRP72 gene product (YlSRP72), a homolog of the 72-kDa subunit of the mammalian SRP, encodes a putative protein of 602 amino acids. Northern blot analysis revealed a unique YlSRP72-specific transcript of 1.8 kb. The deduced amino acid sequence showed higher identities with the Srp72 proteins of euascomycetes than with hemiascomycetes. Chromosomal hybridization experiments showed that the YlSRP72 gene is located in chromosome V of the standard E150 strain of Y. lipolytica. Fluorescent microscopy revealed that the YlSRP72-GFP fusion protein was expressed in the cytoplasm and nucleus. The YlSRP72 gene was interrupted by the pop-out method; however, deletion of the gene proved to be lethal. This is in contrast to the results described for the Saccharomyces cerevisiae SRP72 gene, which is not essential for cell growth, and supports our previous finding with another component of the yeast recognition particle, YlSEC65. The present work suggests that SRP-dependent targeting is the main secretory pathway in Y. lipolytica, as has been described for higher eukaryotes. [Int Microbiol 2007; 10(4):283-289

Embryos, Unborns and Other Species. A Choreography of the Limits of Human Life

In this article we draw upon the theoretical baggage of posthumanism as toolkit to inquire about the processes that configure the limits of human life. To do so we focus in three dimensions that, according to our analysis, are delineating the boundary which settles the initiation of human life as such: the first dimension will consider the morphological aspects, the second the temporal ones and the third the spatial aspects. The first one, morphological, will answer the question about the proper human form, the second will refer to when does that human life start, and the third will consider the where takes place that initiation. To track down how those three axes operate we analyse various materials, mostly legal texts and images. We try, therefore, to pursue a whole array of heterogeneous actors –both human and non-human–, practices, discourses and relations that facilitate the emergence of the properly “human” as such. As this complex array of elements tends to be erased from the narrative on the origins of human life, “humanness” comes to be read as a given, something unmediated and a-problematic

Realizing dynamic capabilities and organizational knowledge in effective innovations: the capabilities typological map

    Get PDF
Purpose – This paper aims to shed light on the mechanisms that connect dynamic capabilities and organizational knowledge in the innovative process to offer a new theoretical and practical solution considering the microfoundations of knowledge management strategies. Design/methodology/approach – This research has emerged from an in-depth case study of an effective innovation (from just ethanol and sugar-production to an effective biomass plant). The study represents an “inductive inquiry,” useful to understand specific “organizational mechanisms” of innovation, where the main data came from in-depth interviews with 18 key actors. It proved to help search the development of a specific biomass plant, designed and implemented between 2000 and 2007 in a Brazilian ethanol and sugar-production large company, referred to here as “Energyplant.” Findings – This solution provides a new perspective based on the idea that dynamic capabilities are context-dependent and presents an original typological map that shows and materializes dynamic capabilities as teams of human-based resources. Managerial implications can be drawn from the capabilities typological map highlighting that, although identical dynamic capabilities are not required to change different firms, idiosyncratic dynamic capabilities perform universal knowledge functions that can be mapped, contributing to the planning of a specific innovation. Originality/value – While the dynamic capabilities research has been seen as one of the most vibrant topics in strategic management, scholars have recently stressed that dynamic capabilities continue to be underrated because the knowledge mechanisms that lead to effective innovations have not been adequately explored. The visual mapping is then applied to solve the reviewed theoretical problems, being also suggested to firms interested in change and adapting their capabilities to the requirements of the business environment

Analysing trademark and social media in the fashion industry: tools that impact performance and internationalization for SMEs

    Get PDF
Purpose – This research investigates the role that having a trademark and a social media presence play in the development of international activities as well as their influence on performance for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) operating within the fashion sector of the United Kingdom and Ireland. Design/methodology/approach – Quantitative analysis was carried out by integrating information from several data sources. The hypotheses proposed in the authors’ research model are tested on a sample of 102 SMEs, applying bivariate analysis and variance-based structural equation modelling (partial least squares). Findings – Based on the authors’ empirical evidence, the fashion SMEs could improve their performance through two important marketing tools: registered trademark and social media. On the one hand, SMEs with a registered trademark are more present in the international markets, and it also implies higher performance. On the other hand, there is no significant relationship between SMEs with social media and a presence in international markets. Originality/value – The aim of this paper is to investigate the effect of trademark and social media participation on firms which varies depending on what managers of fashion-related SME companies want to prioritize. Hence, these two marketing tools could be useful for managers to decide on what resources to invest, to register a trademark or to be present in social media, subject to their firms' strategy and objectives
