Laminosioptes cysticola and Gallibacterium anatis infections in a lymphoma diseased chicken hen with a cystic right oviduct
A domestic hen showing infraorbital swelling was presented for a routine classroom demonstration of avian diagnostics. At necropsy, tiny whitish caseo-calcareous nodules were found in the subcutaneous tissues of the carcass, produced by the subcutaneous fowl mite, Laminosioptes cysticola. Gallibacterium anatis biovar haemolytica was isolated from the infraorbital sinus, it containing a caseous exudate. During necropsy, a conspicuous cyst was found in the abdominal cavity. Microscopic examination of the internal lining of the cyst revealed a single cuboidal to columnar, ciliated epithelium, leading to a diagnosis of oviductal cyst. Also, the microscopic examination of the heart, lung, liver and kidney reveal a multifocal infiltration of lymphoma cells. Vulnerability and resilience of high-mountain pine forests of the Gredos range (Ávila, Spanish Central System): two thousand years of socio-ecological dynamics
RESUMEN: En este trabajo se presenta el análisis palinológico de la turbera de Pozo de la Nieve, localizada en el Parque Natural del Valle de Iruelas (Ávila), un área de alto valor sociocultural dentro de la Sierra de Gredos (Sistema Central). Con el objetivo de relacionar los cambios en el paisaje con la explotación de los recursos naturales y eventos climáticos, en primer lugar se han realizado 7 dataciones radiocarbónicas que sitúan el inicio del registro sedimentario ca. 240 cal BC. Los datos polínicos indican la existencia de un denso pinar altimontano dominado por Pinus sylvestris/nigra desde la Segunda Edad de Hierro hasta el periodo islámico. A partir del periodo cristiano las actividades antrópicas se intensifican, especialmente la ganadería en la Edad Contemporánea, lo cual conlleva la progresiva desaparición del pinar de alta montaña y el desarrollo de pastizales mediante el manejo del fuego, situación que culmina con el desarrollo del paisaje actual dominado por piornales pirófilos.ABSTRACT: We present the palynological study of Pozo de la Nieve peat bog, located in a very valuable socio-cultural placement within the Iruelas Valley Natural Park (Gredos range, Iberian Central System). We have focused in relating landscape changes to natural resources management and climatic events. Firstly, we carried out seven radiocarbon dates suggesting the origin of this record ca. 240 cal BC. The palynological data show the existence of dense high-mountain pine woodlands dominated by Pinus sylvestris/nigra from the Late Iron Age to the Muslim period. Later, from the Christian period, anthropogenic activities have intensified, especially livestock grazing in the Contemporary Age. Its consequences are the progressive disappearance of highmountain pine forests and the extension of grasslands by means of fire, which has shaped current landscape dominated by broom communities.Este trabajo ha sido financiado por el proyecto

All electron and pseudopotential study of the spin polarization of the V (001) surface: LDA versus GGA
The spin-polarization at the V(001) surface has been studied by using
different local (LSDA) and semilocal (GGA) approximations to the
exchange-correlation potential of DFT within two ab initio methods: the
all-electron TB-LMTO-ASA and the pseudopotential LCAO code SIESTA (Spanish
Initiative for Electronic Simulations with Thousands of Atoms). A comparative
analysis is performed first for the bulk and then for a N-layer V(001) film (7
< N < 15). The LSDA approximation leads to a non magnetic V(001) surface with
both theoretical models in agreement (disagreement) with magneto-optical Kerr
(electron-capture spectroscopy) experiments. The GGA within the pseudopotential
method needs thicker slabs than the LSDA to yield zero moment at the central
layer, giving a high surface magnetization (1.70 Bohr magnetons), in contrast

Análisis arqueosismológico del conjunto arqueológico romano de Mulva- Munigua (Sevilla, España). Resultados preliminares
El conjunto arqueológico romano de Mulva-Munigua (Sevilla, España) presenta daños en las edificaciones
que pueden ser interpretadas como resultado de la ocurrencia de un evento sísmico (Efectos Arqueológicos de los
Terremotos: EAEs) a finales del siglo III A.D., fecha coincidente con el inicio del periodo de declive económico de este
asentamiento romano. Para intentar establecer el posible origen sísmico de las deformaciones, se ha procedido al
inventario y análisis de las estructuras deformadas presentes en el yacimiento. No obstante, algunas de estas
deformaciones también se pueden interpretar como resultado de procesos gravitaciones asociados a la ladera Este de la
colina sobre la que se sitúa parte del yacimiento. Las direcciones de máxima deformación (ey) obtenidas del análisis de
EAEs indica dos direcciones preferentes de la deformación (o movimiento preferente del terreno): NNO-SSE y ENEOSO.
Aunque los datos presentan una dispersión importante, se puede establecer que la orientación principal NNO-SSE
es compatible con un evento sísmico situado en el borde norte del Valle del Guadalquivir. La orientación ENE-OSO
podría relacionarse con un evento posterior, o más seguramente con procesos de ladera de carácter cosísmico o no.The Roman archaeological site of Mulva-Munigua (Sevilla, Spain) displays building damage features
suggesting a seismic origin (Earthquake Archaeological Effects: EAEs). The proposed seismic event could be
tentatively dated in the late 3rd century AD, coinciding with the beginning of the economic fall of the Roman Empire at
Iberia. However, some of the recorded EAEs can be also interpreted as a result of intervening slope movements in the
eastern hillslope of this roman site. The inventory and analysis of the proposed EAEs make possible to discern between
seismic oriented damage and other causes. In spite of the data show a significant dispersion, their analysis result in two
different orientations of maximum deformation (ey) or preferential ground movement: NNW-SSE and ENE-WSW. The
main ey orientation (NNW-SSE) can be tentatively related to a seismic event occurred in the environs of the northern
border of the Guadalquivir Depression. The secondary orientation (ENE-WSW) can be interpreted as a consequence of
latter slope movements triggered (or not) by other ancient earthquakes
A hotspot mutation targeting the R-RAS2 GTPase acts as a potent oncogenic driver in a wide spectrum of tumors
A missense change in RRAS2 (Gln to Leu), analogous to the Gln-to-Leu mutation of RAS oncoproteins, has been identified as a long-tail hotspot mutation in cancer and Noonan syndrome. However, the relevance of this mutation for in vivo tumorigenesis remains understudied. Here we show, using an inducible knockin mouse model, that R-Ras2 triggers rapid development of a wide spectrum of tumors when somatically expressed in adult tissues. These tumors show limited overlap with those originated by classical Ras oncogenes. R-Ras2-driven tumors can be classified into different subtypes according to therapeutic susceptibility. Importantly, the most relevant R-Ras2-driven tumors are dependent on mTORC1 but independent of phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase-, MEK-, and Ral guanosine diphosphate (GDP) dissociation stimulator. This pharmacological vulnerability is due to the extensive rewiring by R-Ras2 of pathways that orthogonally stimulate mTORC1 signaling. These findings demonstrate that RRAS2 is a bona fide oncogenic driver and unveil therapeutic strategies for patients with cancer and Noonan syndrome bearing RRAS2 mutations.We thank M. A chromosome-level genome assembly enables the identification of the follicule stimulating hormone receptor as the master sex determining gene in the flatfish Solea senegalensis
Sex determination (SD) shows huge variation among fish and a high evolutionary rate, as illustrated by the Pleuronectiformes (flatfishes). This order is characterized by its adaptation to demersal life, compact genomes and diversity of SD mechanisms. Here, we assembled the Solea senegalensis genome, a flatfish of great commercial value, into 82 contigs (614 Mb) combining long- and short-read sequencing, which were next scaffolded using a highly dense genetic map (28,838 markers, 21 linkage groups), representing 98.9% of the assembly. Further, we established the correspondence between the assembly and the 21 chromosomes by using BAC-FISH. Whole genome resequencing of six males and six females enabled the identification of 41 SNP variants in the follicle stimulating hormone receptor (fshr) consistent with an XX / XY SD system. The observed sex association was validated in a broader independent sample, providing a novel molecular sexing tool. Fshr displayed differential gene expression between male and female gonads from 86 days post-fertilization, when the gonad is still an undifferentiated primordium, concomitant with the activation of amh and cyp19a1a, testis and ovary marker genes, respectively, in males and females. The Y-linked fshr allele, which included 24 non-synonymous variants and showed a highly divergent 3D protein structure, was overexpressed in males compared to the X-linked allele at all stages of gonadal differentiation.
