    AWARENESS AND USER PATTERN OF E-RESOURCES AMONG THE RESEARCH SCHOLARS IN ALAGAPPA UNIVERSITY: A STUDY

    The study analyzed the awareness and usage of e-resources among 110 research scholars of Alagappa University. A well-structured questionnaire was used for data collection and MS Excel software was used for analyzing the data. The study revealed that majority of the respondents are female 84(76.4%) and 75(62.8) % of respondents are M.Phil. research scholars and less respondents from Ph.D. scholars. Most of respondents 30(27.2%) used the library fortnightly, 22(20%) of respondents use library daily. Further the study found that 83(75.5%) of using Google Search engine; 17(15.5%) of the respondents use the yahoo. The study identify the 35(31.8%) of the respondents use the e-journals and 22(20 %) of the respondents use the e-thesis for their research & projects and 20(18.1%) of the respondents use online e-books to get information. The study found that 30(27.2%) of respondents using online electronic information resource to Update knowledge and 25(22.7%) of respondents use it study purpose; 44(40%) of respondents used to store and share information in online resource using Google drive, followed by 28(25.4%) respondents using store and share Hard disk & Hard drive and 21(19%) of respondents using Memory card

    Exploring the therapeutic mechanisms of Cassia glauca in diabetes mellitus through network pharmacology, molecular docking and molecular dynamics

    Cassia glauca is reported as anti-diabetic medicinal plant and is also used as an ethnomedicine. However, its mode of action as an anti-diabetic agent has not been clearly elucidated. Hence, the present study investigated the probable mechanism of action of C. glauca to manage diabetes mellitus via network pharmacology and molecular docking and simulations studies. The reported bioactives from C. glauca were retrieved from an open-source database, i.e. ChEBI, and their targets were predicted using SwissTargetPrediction. The proteins involved in the pathogenesis of diabetes were identified from the therapeutic target database. The targets involved in diabetes were enriched in STRING, and the pathways involved in diabetes were identified concerning the KEGG. Cytoscape was used to construct the network among bioactives, proteins, and probably regulated pathways, which were analyzed based on edge count. Similarly, molecular docking was performed using the Glide module of the Schrodinger suite against majorly targeted proteins with their respective ligands. Additionally, the drug-likeness score and ADMET profile of the individual bioactives were predicted using MolSoft and admetSAR2.0 respectively. The stability of these complexes were further studied via molecular dynamics simulations and binding energy calculations. Twenty-three bio-actives were retrieved from the ChEBI database in which cassiarin B was predicted to modulate the highest number of proteins involved in diabetes mellitus. Similarly, GO analysis identified the PI3K-Akt signaling pathway to be primarily regulated by modulating the highest number of gene. Likewise, aldose reductase (AKR1B1) was majorly targeted via the bioactives of C. glauca. Similarly, docking study revealed methyl-3,5-di-O-caffeoylquinate (docking score −9.209) to possess the highest binding affinity with AKR1B1. Additionally, drug-likeness prediction identified cassiaoccidentalin B to possess the highest drug-likeness score, i.e. 0.84. The molecular dynamics simulations and the MMGBSA indicate high stability and greater binding energy for the methyl-3,5-di-O-caffeoylquinate (ΔGbind = −40.33 ± 6.69 kcal mol−1) with AKR1B1, thus complementing results from other experiments. The study identified cassiarin B, cassiaoccidentalin B, and cinnamtannin A2 as lead hits for the anti-diabetic activity of C. glauca. Further, the PI3K-Akt and AKR1B1 were traced as majorly modulated pathway and target, respectively

    Furanoflavones pongapin and lanceolatin B blocks the cell cycle and induce senescence in CYP1A1-overexpressing breast cancer cells

    © 2018 Elsevier Ltd Expression of cytochrome P450-1A1 (CYP1A1) is suppressed under physiologic conditions but is induced (a) by polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) which can be metabolized by CYP1A1 to carcinogens, and (b) in majority of breast cancers. Hence, phytochemicals or dietary flavonoids, if identified as CYP1A1 inhibitors, may help in preventing PAH-mediated carcinogenesis and breast cancer. Herein, we have investigated the cancer chemopreventive potential of a flavonoid-rich Indian medicinal plant, Pongamia pinnata (L.) Pierre. Methanolic extract of its seeds inhibits CYP1A1 in CYP1A1-overexpressing normal human HEK293 cells, with IC50 of 0.6 µg/mL. Its secondary metabolites, the furanoflavonoids pongapin/lanceolatin B, inhibit CYP1A1 with IC50 of 20 nM. Although the furanochalcone pongamol inhibits CYP1A1 with IC50 of only 4.4 µM, a semisynthetic pyrazole-derivative P5b, has ∼10-fold improved potency (IC50, 0.49 μM). Pongapin/lanceolatin B and the methanolic extract of P. pinnata seeds protect CYP1A1-overexpressing HEK293 cells from B[a]P-mediated toxicity. Remarkably, they also block the cell cycle of CYP1A1-overexpressing MCF-7 breast cancer cells, at the G0-G1 phase, repress cyclin D1 levels and induce cellular-senescence. Molecular modeling studies demonstrate the interaction pattern of pongapin/lanceolatin B with CYP1A1. The results strongly indicate the potential of methanolic seed-extract and pongapin/lanceolatin B for further development as cancer chemopreventive agents

    Chemical characterisation and the anti-inflammatory, anti-angiogenic and antibacterial properties of date fruit (Phoenix dactylifera L.)

    Ethnopharmacological relevance: Date fruit, Phoenix dactylifera L. has traditionally been used as a medicine in many cultures for the treatment of a range of ailments such as stomach and intestinal disorders, fever, oedema, bronchitis and wound healing. Aim of the review: The present review aims to summarise the traditional use and application of Phoenix dactylifera date fruit in different ethnomedical systems, additionally the botany and phytochemistry are identified. Critical evaluation of in vitro and in vitro studies examining date fruit in relation to anti-inflammatory, anti-angiogenic and antimicrobial activities are outlined. Key Findings: The ethnomedical use of Phoenix dactylifera in the treatment of inflammatory disease has been previously identified and reported. Furthermore, date fruit and date fruit co-products such as date syrup are rich sources of polyphenols, anthocyanins, sterols and carotenoids. In vitro studies have demonstrated that date fruit exhibits antibacterial, anti-inflammatory and anti-angiogenic activity. The recent interest in the identification of the numerous health benefits of dates using in vitro and in vivo studies have confirmed that date fruit and date syrup have beneficial health effects that can be attributed to the presence of natural bioactive compounds. Conclusions: Date fruit and date syrup have therapeutic properties, which have the potential to be beneficial to health. However, more investigations are needed to quantify and validate these effects

    The publication with a short introduction briefly describing circumstances of correspondence includes two letters of Jonas Jablonskis kept in the collection of documents of the Johann Gottfried Herder Institute (Die Dokumentesammlung des Herder-Instituts) located in the German city of Marburg, in the collection of P. V. Rėklaitis among other objects of Lithuanian studies to Vilius Gaigalaitis, a figure of Lithuania Minor. They are registered in DSHI 150 Nachlass Gaigalat 146. One is dated to 5/17 January 1895, the other one – an earlier reply in correspondence on the same matter: celebration of the tenth anniversary of Tilsit “Birutė” union. Organizers were also concerned about the musical part, and they were particularly lack of the “prologue” – speech. Celebration of the tenth anniversary of “Birutė” took place just one month after the second letter, therefore, Jablonskis was unable to help in any way from Mintauja, but just offered to appeal to easily publicistically singing Vincas Kudirka. The introductory speech was eventually given by J. Lapinas, chairman of “Birutė”, who called for not being ashamed of Lithuanity and native language; a performance was staged – “Destruction of Kaunas Castle” by A. Fromas-Gužutis; Lithuanianized “Gals yr tylėjims” by J. Zauerveinas was sung by E. Jagomastas, and more songs were performed by local “Birutė” and arrived Samogitian women’s choir

    Design of Space Vector-Based Hybrid PWM Techniques for Reduced Current Ripple

    Switching sequence used by conventional space vector PWM (CSVPWM) involves equal division of zero vector time between the two zero states in every subcycle. The sequences employed by bus-clamping PWM involve use of only one zero state in a subcycle. This paper deals with two sequences, which use only one zero state and involve division of active vector time within a subcycle. A novel hybrid PWM technique, employing these two sequences in conjunction with the conventional sequence, is proposed. The proposed PWM technique is designed using the notion of stator flux ripple. A procedure is presented for the design of hybrid PWM technqiues involving multiple sequences for reduced current ripple. The proposed PWM technique results in reduced current ripple over CSVPWM at higher modulation indices. Experimental results on a 2hp prototype induction motor drive are presented
