    Get PDF
Background: Giant cell tumour of bone remains a difficult and challenging management problems because there are no absolute clinical radiographic or histologic parameters that accurately predict the tendency of any single lesion to recur or metastasize. Methods: We performed surgery on 12 patients of GCT with radical curettage and bone cement over a period of 5.8 years. Results were evaluated using the musculoskeletal skeletal grading system. Results: The present series consists of 12 case of GCT age ranging from 16-45 years. Painful swelling was the commonest presentation, limitation of motion was seen in 9 cases and pathological fracture was seen in 1 case. 9 of the tumour occurred around knee joint. Rare involvement of talus was seen in 1 case. Overall 9 patients had a perfect functional score of 30 points and 1 patient scored less than 20 points. Conclusions: Acrylic cement reconstruction is safe and effective procedure that provides local adjuvant therapy, the cement field defect is mechanically stable. Patient can bear weight immediately and rehabilitate quickly

In current era environmental pollution is a major treat and is one of the greatest problems that the whole world is facing. The term pollution is presence of offensive matter in environment. This offensive matter is nothing but the presence of various pollutants in the surrounding environment. It involves five basic types of pollution air, water, soil, noise, light. Pollutants are components of pollution; they may be either foreign substances or naturally occurring contaminants. Pollutants are a waste matter that pollutes soil, water and air. The harmful chemicals became an integral part of our life. The harmful chemical causes damages to our body as well as our environment.  As it has a negative effect on natural elements this Pollution must be taken seriously. Through maintenance of Dincharaya, Rutucharya, Sadvritta, personā€™s physical and mental health is secured

    Get PDF
Gondia is one of the centrally located districts of India. It is famous for its lakes and water bodies. These water bodies exhibit enormous diversity of plants according to geographical location, depth of water body, water regime, chemistry of water, soil and sediment characteristics. Very little work has been done so far on the flora of the water bodies of Gondia district. Therefore, a study has carried out to understand the aquatic plants diversity of selected 5 lakes around Gondia city. For this, well-planned surveys were carried out at selected sites frequently. During visits, data like habit, life span, local names, and life forms of all the plant species present in the water body were collected. During the study, 44 species of 37 genera belonging to 26 families have been recorded from selected sites. Most dominant family was Hydrocharitaceae with 4 genera and 4 species, followed by Asteraceae, Poaceae, Convolvulaceae and Potamogetonaceae with 3 species each. Jaccard and Sorenson similarity indexes showed that Lake I and Lake II have maximum similarity and highest diversity as compared to other sites. The present work revealed the database of aquatic plants in water bodies around Gondia, which will help in future work for the conservation, preservation and growth of the local biodiversity

Paraplegia in young female after stab injury: a rare injury with heavy socioeconomic burden and its impact

    Get PDF
Thoracic spinal cord stab injuries are rare lesions. We report a 32 years old young married female, of a lower middle class, who was stabbed on her back with a sickle by her neighbor after a quarrel. She presented with complete paraplegia with muscle power of zero on all muscle groups, complete sensory loss from thoracic dermatome level 4 and below, acute urinary retention, and a 3-centimeter vertically placed wound on the posterior thoracic region from which cerebrospinal fluid mixed with blood was oozing out. A high-dose methylprednisolone protocol was started (30 mg/kg in one hour and then 5.4 mg/kg over next 23 hours), urinary catheter placed and sterile cleaning and dressing was done. Antibiotics and analgesics were also administered. The Magnetic Resonance Imaging scan was done urgently and scanning revealed thoracic spinal cord contusion at D5 vertebral level with cord oedema at D4 to D6 vertebral level and fracture spinous process of T4 vertebral body. The case is managed conservatively and she is under follow up. As patient is a young married female, wedge worker by occupation, having lower middle class of socioeconomic status, this condition has high impact considering the socioeconomic issues

Interlocking nailing in fractures of distal tibia

    Get PDF
Background: The complex biomechanics of distal tibial fractures, lack of robust soft tissue coverage and a wide metaphysis makes their treatment a challenging prospect even for experienced surgeons. Methods: A total of 42 patients of distal tibia fracture were treated with reamed intramedullary nailing. Fibula was fixed in selected cases either with nailing or a low profile plate. Outcome was measured with Klemm and Borner criteria. Results: In this study 42 patients treated with reamed IM nailing were included. Fractures were classified according to AO classification. In present study, we got 22 patients (53.38 %) of fracture 43A1, 11 patients (26.19%) 43A2 and 9 patients (21.42%) 43A3 type. Fibular fracture was fixed with plate in 16 patients and intramedullary device in 15 patients. In the study all the fractures united. Mean time for union was 21 weeks. Time range for union was from 12-34 weeks. Four patients had mal-alignment. One patient had superficial infection which was treated with oral antibiotics. In the present study, 35 (83.33%) patients had no loss of ankle motion, while 5 (11.90 %) had loss of <25 degrees and 2 had loss of 25 degrees. Out of 42 patients, 33 (78.58%) patients had excellent results while 5 (11.90%) patients had good results, 4 (9.52%) patients had fair results. Conclusions: Intramedullary nailing is an effective alternative for the treatment of distal metaphyseal tibial fractures. A proper patient selection, adjuvant fixation of fibula and use of at least two distal interlocking screws is suggested for better outcome.

    Get PDF
Cystic echinococcus or hydatidosis is a parasitic infection of humans and animals. In this we are reporting 2 cases. one is hydatid disease at distal femur left side and other patient having hydatid disease at shaft tibia rt side. both cases investigated and definitive surgery was done as arthrodesis with long tibio-femoral nail for distal femoral hydatidosis and curettage for tibial hydatidosis. Both patient given albendazole and followed up. in recent follow-up both cases do not have signs of recurrence. hence case report of these two cases is discussed along with review of literature

Effect of integrated nutrient management on nitrogen dynamics in soil of rice -potato based cropping sequence

    Get PDF
The integrated nutrient management (INM) has profound influence on sustaining crop productivity and fertility status of soil. The manurial field experiment was conducted at Paschim Medinipur, West Bengal for evaluating the performance of chemical fertilizer and organic manure on nitrogen availability in different forms in soil and also on the content of nitrogen in different parts of rice (Oryza sativa cv. Annada) and potato (Solanum tuberosum cv. Kufrijyoti) during different growth stages. Application of FYM and RDF150 in combination had good impact on nitrogen dynamics related to crop growth among other treatment combinations. FYM and RDF150 alone also imparted good impact on nutrient availability and yield of two experiment crops (rice and potato). Experiment revealed that incorporation of commercial concentrated organic manure with RDF150 exerted good impact besides FYM combination with inorganic fertilizers
