    A new neurocognitive interpretation of shoulder position sense during reaching: unexpected competence in the measurement of extracorporeal space

    Background.The position sense of the shoulder joint is important during reaching. Objective. To examine the existence of additional competence of the shoulder with regard to the ability to measure extracorporeal space, through a novel approach, using the shoulder proprioceptive rehabilitation tool (SPRT), during reaching. Design. Observational case-control study. Methods. We examined 50 subjects: 25 healthy and 25 with impingement syndrome with a mean age [years] of 64.52 +/− 6.98 and 68.36 +/− 6.54, respectively. Two parameters were evaluated using the SPRT: the integration of visual information and the proprioceptive afferents of the shoulder (Test 1) and the discriminative proprioceptive capacity of the shoulder, with the subject blindfolded (Test 2). These tasks assessed the spatial error (in centimeters) by the shoulder joint in reaching movements on the sagittal plane. Results. The shoulder had proprioceptive features that allowed it to memorize a reaching position and reproduce it (error of 1.22 cm to 1.55 cm in healthy subjects). This ability was lower in the impingement group, with a statistically significant difference compared to the healthy group ( < 0.05 by Mann–Whitney test). Conclusions. The shoulder has specific expertise in the measurement of the extracorporeal space during reaching movements that gradually decreases in impingement syndrome

    Maternidade Adolescente: A Matriz de Apoio e o Contexto de Depressão Pós-Parto

    The present study investigated the main figures in the support system of teenage mothers, showing their possible roles and the differences between mothers with and without indicators of depression according to the Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale (EPDS). Eight teenage mothers participated in the study, four with indicators of depression and four without. Interview content analysis revealed that mothers with the indicators mentioned fewer supportive figures than the others, either because depression may have affected the maternal perception of the mother’s support system or because support for the mother was insufficient. The fact that the participants were experiencing adolescence concurrently with motherhood could possibly heighten the ambivalences of these developmental stages.Este estudo investigou as principais figuras de apoio referidas pelas mães adolescentes, evidenciando as possíveis funções atribuídas a essas figuras e as diferenças entre mães com e sem indicadores de depressão, de acordo com a Escala de Depressão Pós-parto de Edimburgo (EPDS). Participaram do estudo oito mães adolescentes, quatro apresentavam indicadores de depressão e quatro não. Análise de conteúdo das entrevistas revelou que as mães com indicadores citaram menos figuras de apoio do que as sem indicadores, seja porque a depressão possa ter afetado a percepção materna quanto ao apoio recebido, seja porque sua matriz de apoio mostrou-se insuficiente nesse contexto. O fato das participantes estarem vivenciando a adolescência concomitantemente à maternidade pode potencializar as ambivalências características dessas etapas desenvolvimentais

    Open and Hidden Charm Production in 920 GeV Proton-Nucleus Collisions

    The HERA-B collaboration has studied the production of charmonium and open charm states in collisions of 920 GeV protons with wire targets of different materials. The acceptance of the HERA-B spectrometer covers negative values of xF up to xF=-0.3 and a broad range in transverse momentum from 0.0 to 4.8 GeV/c. The studies presented in this paper include J/psi differential distributions and the suppression of J/psi production in nuclear media.     HE-LHC: The High-Energy Large Hadron Collider: Future Circular Collider Conceptual Design Report Volume 4

    In response to the 2013 Update of the European Strategy for Particle Physics (EPPSU), the Future Circular Collider (FCC) study was launched as a world-wide international collaboration hosted by CERN. The FCC study covered an energy-frontier hadron collider (FCC-hh), a highest-luminosity high-energy lepton collider (FCC-ee), the corresponding 100 km tunnel infrastructure, as well as the physics opportunities of these two colliders, and a high-energy LHC, based on FCC-hh technology. This document constitutes the third volume of the FCC Conceptual Design Report, devoted to the hadron collider FCC-hh. It summarizes the FCC-hh physics discovery opportunities, presents the FCC-hh accelerator design, performance reach, and staged operation plan, discusses the underlying technologies, the civil engineering and technical infrastructure, and also sketches a possible implementation. Combining ingredients from the Large Hadron Collider (LHC), the high-luminosity LHC upgrade and adding novel technologies and approaches, the FCC-hh design aims at significantly extending the energy frontier to 100 TeV. Its unprecedented centre-of-mass collision energy will make the FCC-hh a unique instrument to explore physics beyond the Standard Model, offering great direct sensitivity to new physics and discoveries
