    Computer-aided detection in breast MRI: a systematic review and meta-analysis

    To evaluate the additional value of computer-aided detection (CAD) in breast MRI by assessing radiologists' accuracy in discriminating benign from malignant breast lesions. A literature search was performed with inclusion of relevant studies using a commercially available CAD system with automatic colour mapping. Two independent researchers assessed the quality of the studies. The accuracy of the radiologists' performance with and without CAD was presented as pooled sensitivity and specificity. Of 587 articles, 10 met the inclusion criteria, all of good methodological quality. Experienced radiologists reached comparable pooled sensitivity and specificity before and after using CAD (sensitivity: without CAD: 89%; 95% CI: 78-94%, with CAD: 89%; 95%CI: 81-94%) (specificity: without CAD: 86%; 95% CI: 79-91%, with CAD: 82%; 95% CI: 76-87%). For residents the pooled sensitivity increased from 72% (95% CI: 62-81%) without CAD to 89% (95% CI: 80-94%) with CAD, however, not significantly. Concerning specificity, the results were similar (without CAD: 79%; 95% CI: 69-86%, with CAD: 78%; 95% CI: 69-84%). CAD in breast MRI has little influence on the sensitivity and specificity of experienced radiologists and therefore their interpretation remains essential. However, residents or inexperienced radiologists seem to benefit from CAD concerning breast MRI evaluation

    Studying the Underlying Event in Drell-Yan and High Transverse Momentum Jet Production at the Tevatron

    We study the underlying event in proton-antiproton collisions by examining the behavior of charged particles (transverse momentum pT > 0.5 GeV/c, pseudorapidity |\eta| < 1) produced in association with large transverse momentum jets (~2.2 fb-1) or with Drell-Yan lepton-pairs (~2.7 fb-1) in the Z-boson mass region (70 < M(pair) < 110 GeV/c2) as measured by CDF at 1.96 TeV center-of-mass energy. We use the direction of the lepton-pair (in Drell-Yan production) or the leading jet (in high-pT jet production) in each event to define three regions of \eta-\phi space; toward, away, and transverse, where \phi is the azimuthal scattering angle. For Drell-Yan production (excluding the leptons) both the toward and transverse regions are very sensitive to the underlying event. In high-pT jet production the transverse region is very sensitive to the underlying event and is separated into a MAX and MIN transverse region, which helps separate the hard component (initial and final-state radiation) from the beam-beam remnant and multiple parton interaction components of the scattering. The data are corrected to the particle level to remove detector effects and are then compared with several QCD Monte-Carlo models. The goal of this analysis is to provide data that can be used to test and improve the QCD Monte-Carlo models of the underlying event that are used to simulate hadron-hadron collisions.Comment: Submitted to Phys.Rev.

    Measurement of the W+WW^+W^- Production Cross Section and Search for Anomalous WWγWW\gamma and WWZWWZ Couplings in ppˉp \bar p Collisions at s=1.96\sqrt{s} = 1.96 TeV

    This Letter describes the current most precise measurement of the WW boson pair production cross section and most sensitive test of anomalous WWγWW\gamma and WWZWWZ couplings in ppˉp \bar p collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 1.96 TeV. The WWWW candidates are reconstructed from decays containing two charged leptons and two neutrinos, where the charged leptons are either electrons or muons. Using data collected by the CDF II detector from 3.6 fb1^{-1} of integrated luminosity, a total of 654 candidate events are observed with an expected background contribution of 320±47320 \pm 47 events. The measured total cross section is σ(ppˉW+W+X)=12.1±0.9(stat)1.4+1.6(syst)\sigma (p \bar p \to W^+ W^- + X) = 12.1 \pm 0.9 \textrm{(stat)} ^{+1.6}_{-1.4} \textrm{(syst)} pb, which is in good agreement with the standard model prediction. The same data sample is used to place constraints on anomalous WWγWW\gamma and WWZWWZ couplings.Comment: submitted to Phys. Rev. Let

    Observation of the Baryonic Flavor-Changing Neutral Current Decay Lambda_b -> Lambda mu+ mu-

    We report the first observation of the baryonic flavor-changing neutral current decay Lambda_b -> Lambda mu+ mu- with 24 signal events and a statistical significance of 5.8 Gaussian standard deviations. This measurement uses ppbar collisions data sample corresponding to 6.8fb-1 at sqrt{s}=1.96TeV collected by the CDF II detector at the Tevatron collider. The total and differential branching ratios for Lambda_b -> Lambda mu+ mu- are measured. We find B(Lambda_b -> Lambda mu+ mu-) = [1.73+-0.42(stat)+-0.55(syst)] x 10^{-6}. We also report the first measurement of the differential branching ratio of B_s -> phi mu+ mu- using 49 signal events. In addition, we report branching ratios for B+ -> K+ mu+ mu-, B0 -> K0 mu+ mu-, and B -> K*(892) mu+ mu- decays.Comment: 8 pages, 2 figures, 4 tables. Submitted to Phys. Rev. Let

    Observation of New Charmless Decays of Bottom Hadrons

    Submitted to Phys. Rev. LettWe search for new charmless decays of neutral b-hadrons to pairs of charged hadrons with the upgraded Collider Detector at the Fermilab Tevatron. Using a data sample corresponding to 1 fb-1 of integrated luminosity, we report the first observation of the B0s->K-pi+ decay, with a significance of 8.2 sigma, and measure BR(B0s->K-pi+)= (5.0+-0.7(stat)+-0.8(syst))*10^{-6}. We also report the first observation of charmless b-baryon decays in the channels Lambda_b -> p pi and Lambda_b -> pK with significances of 6.0 sigma and 11.5 sigma respectively, and we measure BR(Lambda_b->p pi-) = (3.5+-0.6(stat)+-0.9(syst))*10^{-6} and BR(Lambda_b->p K-) = (5.6+-0.8(stat)+-1.5(syst))*10^{-6}. No evidence is found for the decays B0->K+K- and B0s -> pi+pi-, and we set an improved upper limit BR(B0s -> pi+pi-) K+pi-)$ as a reference.We search for new charmless decays of neutral b hadrons to pairs of charged hadrons, using 1  fb-1 of data collected by the CDF II detector at the Fermilab Tevatron. We report the first observation of the Bs0→K-π+ decay and measure B(Bs0→K-π+)=(5.0±0.7(stat)±0.8(syst))×10-6. We also report the first observation of charmless b-baryon decays, and measure B(Λb0→pπ-)=(3.5±0.6(stat)±0.9(syst))×10-6 and B(Λb0→pK-)=(5.6±0.8(stat)±1.5(syst))×10-6. No evidence is found for other modes, and we set the limit B(Bs0→π+π-)<1.2×10-6 at 90% C.L.Peer reviewe

    Search for Standard Model Higgs Boson Production in Association with a W Boson using a Neural Network

The search employs data collected with the CDF II detector that correspond to an integrated luminosity of approximately 1.9 inverse fb. We select events consistent with a signature of a single charged lepton, missing transverse energy, and two jets. Jets corresponding to bottom quarks are identified with a secondary vertex tagging method, a jet probability tagging method, and a neural network filter. We use kinematic information in an artificial neural network to improve discrimination between signal and background compared to previous analyses.     Measurements of the top-quark mass using charged particle tracking

DWe present three measurements of the top-quark mass in the lepton plus jets channel with approximately 1.9 fb-1 of integrated luminosity collected with the CDF II detector using quantities with minimal dependence on the jet energy scale. One measurement exploits the transverse decay length of b-tagged jets to determine a top-quark mass of 166.9+9.5-8.5 (stat) +/- 2.9 (syst) GeV/c2, and another the transverse momentum of electrons and muons from W-boson decays to determine a top-quark mass of 173.5+8.8-8.9 (stat) +/- 3.8 (syst) GeV/c2. These quantities are combined in a third, simultaneous mass measurement to determine a top-quark mass of 170.7 +/- 6.3 (stat) +/- 2.6 (syst) GeV/c2.We present three measurements of the top-quark mass in the lepton plus jets channel with approximately 1.9  fb-1 of integrated luminosity collected with the CDF II detector using quantities with minimal dependence on the jet energy scale.     Search for Anomalous Production of Events with a Photon, Jet, b-quark Jet, and Missing Transverse Energy

DWe present a signature-based search for anomalous production of events containing a photon, two jets, of which at least one is identified as originating from a b quark, and missing transverse energy. The search uses data corresponding to 2.0/fb of integrated luminosity from p-pbar collisions at a center-of-mass energy of sqrt(s)=1.96 TeV, collected with the CDF II detector at the Fermilab Tevatron. From 6,697,466 events with a photon candidate with transverse energy ET> 25 GeV, we find 617 events with missing transverse energy > 25 GeV and two or more jets with ET> 15 GeV, at least one identified as originating from a b quark, versus an expectation of 607+- 113 events. Increasing the requirement on missing transverse energy to 50 GeV, we find 28 events versus an expectation of 30+-11 events. We find no indications of non-standard-model phenomena.We present a signature-based search for the anomalous production of events containing a photon, two jets, of which at least one is identified as originating from a b quark, and missing transverse energy (E̸T).
