ABSTRACTObjectives: Cancer is a major life-threatening disease and has its impact on both patients and their family members. Caregivers also play thevery important role in the care of the patients with cancer. (1) Asses the burden among caregivers of patients with oral cancer using burdeninventory. (2) Assess the perceived stress among caregivers of patients with oral cancer using Perceived Stress Scale (PSS). (3) Identify the correlationbetween burden and perceived stress with selected sociodemographic variable. There is mounting evidence that during advanced stages of illness, changes in family roles, and the burden placed on family caregivers may negatively affect quality of life for cancer patients, as well as their caregivers.Attending to the needs of the families of patients not only will benefit family members but also may help patients with their own emotional responsesand management of their disease. The study objectives were to asses the burden and the perceived stress among caregivers of patients with oralcancer patients. Methods: Quantitative nonexperimental approach with descriptive survey design was selected for study. 40 caregivers of patients with oral cancerwere selected through convenience sampling technique. The study included the caregivers of 21-50 years age group who is providing care patientswith oral cancers, who are responding and interested to participate, and available at the time of the study. Caregiver's burden was assessed usingcaregiver burden scale. A stress of the caregiver was assessed by the PSS.Results: Demographic variable shows that maximum sample belongs 40-50 (40%) years of age group, male gender (65%), married (90%), nuclearfamily (65%), house wife by occupation (60%), spouse to the patients (45%), below graduated education (72%), 6 months to 1 year in providing care(47%), having health benefit from government (52%), and accompanying patient regularly to the hospital (72%). In this study, 3 (7.5%) caregiverwere said that no burden, 13 (32.5%) samples shown mild burden, 15 (37.5%) relative indicated moderate burden, and 9 (22.5%) samples shownsevere burden; 4 (10%) samples shown low stress, 22 (55%) caregiver presented moderate stress, and 14 (35%) samples had high stress. Conclusion: Caregivers are often patients' primary source of support, many experience significant burden, particularly with respect to their physicaland psychological well-being, economic circumstances, and social and personal relationships. Keywords: Family, Burden, Stress, Caregiver, Oral cancer

Objectives: To determine the effectiveness of planned teaching programme (PTP) on knowledge regarding cervical cancer among women at selected urban area Karad and to find out the association between knowledge scores with selected sociodemographic variables among women in selected urban areas at Karad. Methods: Evaluative research approach was used for the study and conducted in urban area Koyana Vasahat, Karad, Maharashtra, India, using one group pre- and post-test design. Systematic proportionate sampling technique was used for selecting 60 women. On the 1st day, structured knowledge questionnaire was used for collecting data, and PTP on knowledge regarding cervical cancer was conducted, followed by posttest on the 7th  day. The data collected, tabulated, and analyzed in terms of objectives of the study using descriptive and inferential statistics. Results: The mean pretest value was 7 and the mean posttest value was 11 with a difference of 4. The paired t-value was 10.2, (p<0.05) showing a significant increase in the knowledge regarding cervical cancer and its prevention. There was no significant association between knowledge scores of women with the selected demographic variables. Conclusion: The study showed that the PTP on cervical cancer was effective in improving the knowledge of women and thus helps them to understand the harmful effects of cervical cancer as well as to take necessary steps for early detection and prevention. Keywords: Effectiveness, Planned teaching programme, Cervical cancer, Knowledge, Women

Background: Substance abuse and dependency are most common during adolescence. Adolescents are in a transitional phase, confusion can sometimes make them susceptible to taking up unfavourable habits. Attitude shaping by parents and knowledge of harmfulness of substance abuse can indirectly motivate the user to give up the habit. Substance abuse control programmes, focusing on youth, are essential, to reduce the burden of related diseases. Objectives: It was aimed to assess the level of knowledge of adolescents regarding substance abuse, to find the effectiveness of role play on knowledge regarding substance abuse among adolescents, to find out the association of knowledge scores of adolescents regarding substance abuse with selected socio demographic variables. Material and Methods: A quasi experimental, one group pre-test post-test design with evaluative approach was adopted for this study. The study was conducted at Krishna Charitable Trust’s English Medium School and Junior College, Karad, Maharashtra, India. Simple random sampling with lottery method was used for selecting the 60 subjects from VIIIth, IXth and Xth class. On the 1st day a structured knowledge questionnaire was used to assess the knowledge on substance abuse and role play was conducted followed by post test on the 7thday. Data was analyzed by using descriptive and inferential statistics. Result: The mean and standard deviation of the knowledge scores of the subjects in pre test was 11.51 + 3.55 which increased in post test after role play to 17.5 + 2.89. The paired ‘t’ test value were 15.363 (p < 0.0001) showing a significant increase in knowledge regarding substance abuse. There was an association between type of family and general information on substance abuse, education of father with commonly abused substances and the total score on substance abuse, education of mother with commonly abused substances and prevention and management of substance abuse and number of children in the family was associated with general information on substance abuse after role play. Conclusion: The study showed that the role play on substance abuse was effective in improving the knowledge of adolescents and thus helps them to understand the harmful effects of substance abuse and to take necessary methods to control it
