Integral Sliding Mode Control for Markovian Jump T-S Fuzzy Descriptor Systems Based on the Super-Twisting Algorithm
This paper investigates integral sliding mode control problems for Markovian jump T-S fuzzy descriptor systems via the super-twisting algorithm. A new integral sliding surface which is continuous is constructed and an integral sliding mode control scheme based on a variable gain super-twisting algorithm is presented to guarantee the well-posedness of the state trajectories between two consecutive switchings. The stability of the sliding motion is analyzed by considering the descriptor redundancy and the properties of fuzzy membership functions. It is shown that the proposed variable gain super-twisting algorithm is an extension of the classical single-input case to the multi-input case. Finally, a bio-economic system is numerically simulated to verify the merits of the method proposed
Average flow constraints and stabilizability in uncertain production-distribution systems
We consider a multi-inventory system with controlled flows and uncertain demands (disturbances) bounded within assigned compact sets. The system is modelled as a first-order one integrating the discrepancy between controlled flows and demands at different sites/nodes. Thus, the buffer levels at the nodes represent the system state. Given a long-term average demand, we are interested in a control strategy that satisfies just one of two requirements: (i) meeting any possible demand at each time (worst case stability) or (ii) achieving a predefined flow in the average (average flow constraints). Necessary and sufficient conditions for the achievement of both goals have been proposed by the authors. In this paper, we face the case in which these conditions are not satisfied. We show that, if we ignore the requirement on worst case stability, we can find a control strategy driving the expected value of the state to zero. On the contrary, if we ignore the average flow constraints, we can find a control strategy that satisfies worst case stability while optimizing any linear cost on the average control. In the latter case, we provide a tight bound for the cost
Effects of Substituting Calcium for Yttrium on the Superconducting Properties of YBa2Cu3Oz Bulk Samples
We report systematic studies of AC magnetic susceptibility and transport
properties of Y(1-x)Ca(x)Ba2Cu3Oz bulk samples with 0\leq x\leq 0.4. Single
phase materials, reduction of carrier concentration and decrease of Tc to 85 K
were obtained at doping levels up to 20%. For Y0.7Ca0.3Ba2Cu3Oz sample the
improvement of grains boundary transport and screening capabilities has been
observed as a result of the optimal ratio between carrier concentration and
impurity phase BaCuO2 presence. The appearence of bulk pinning and nonlinear
effects starting at the highest temperature were detected also.Comment: 12 pages, 8 figures, accepted in Physica
The preservation and interpretation of δ34 S values in charred archaeobotanical remains
The measurement of sulphur isotope (δ34S) values in charred plant remains has the potential to inform understanding of the spatial configuration and ecology of crop production. We investigated the effects of charring, manuring, oxidation and anaerobic soil conditions on modern cereal grain/pulse seed δ34S values, and assessed the effect of chemical pre‐treatment on charred modern and archaeobotanical grain/seed δ34S values. We used these results to interpret δ34S values in archaeobotanical material from Neolithic Çatalhöyük. Our results suggest that δ34S values can be reliably preserved in charred grain/seeds but are subject to influence by anaerobic soil conditions, the effect depending on the timing of flooding in relation to S assimilation
Evidence for an Excess of Soft Photons in Hadronic Decays of Z^0
Soft photons inside hadronic jets converted in front of the DELPHI main
tracker (TPC) in events of qqbar disintegrations of the Z^0 were studied in the
kinematic range 0.2 < E_gamma < 1 GeV and transverse momentum with respect to
the closest jet direction p_T < 80 MeV/c. A clear excess of photons in the
experimental data as compared to the Monte Carlo predictions is observed. This
excess (uncorrected for the photon detection efficiency) is (1.17 +/- 0.06 +/-
0.27) x 10^{-3} gamma/jet in the specified kinematic region, while the expected
level of the inner hadronic bremsstrahlung (which is not included in the Monte
Carlo) is (0.340 +/- 0.001 +/- 0.038) x 10^{-3} gamma/jet. The ratio of the
excess to the predicted bremsstrahlung rate is then (3.4 +/- 0.2 +/- 0.8),
which is similar in strength to the anomalous soft photon signal observed in
fixed target experiments with hadronic beams.Comment: 37 pages, 9 figures, Accepted by Eur. Phys. J.
Global data on earthworm abundance, biomass, diversity and corresponding environmental properties
14 p.Earthworms are an important soil taxon as ecosystem engineers, providing a variety of crucial ecosystem functions and services. Little is known about their diversity and distribution at large spatial scales, despite the availability of considerable amounts of local-scale data. Earthworm diversity data, obtained from the primary literature or provided directly by authors, were collated with information on site locations, including coordinates, habitat cover, and soil properties. Datasets were required, at a minimum, to include abundance or biomass of earthworms at a site. Where possible, site-level species lists were included, as well as the abundance and biomass of individual species and ecological groups. This global dataset contains 10,840 sites, with 184 species, from 60 countries and all continents except Antarctica. The data were obtained from 182 published articles, published between 1973 and 2017, and 17 unpublished datasets. Amalgamating data into a single global database will assist researchers in investigating and answering a wide variety of pressing questions, for example, jointly assessing aboveground and belowground biodiversity distributions and drivers of biodiversity change
Measurement of the Tau Lepton Polarisation at LEP2
A first measurement of the average polarisation P_tau of tau leptons produced in e+e- annihilation at energies significantly above the Z resonance is presented. The polarisation is determined from the kinematic spectra of tau hadronic decays. The measured value P_tau = -0.164 +/- 0.125 is consistent with the Standard Model prediction for the mean LEP energy of 197 GeV.A first measurement of the average polarisation Pτ of tau leptons produced in e + e − annihilation at energies significantly above the Z resonance is presented. Production of Xi_c^0 and Xi_b in Z decays and lifetime measurement of Xi_b
The charmed strange baryon Xi_c^0 was searched for in the decay channel
Xi_c^0 -> Xi- pi+, and the beauty strange baryon Xi_b in the inclusive channel
Xi_b -> Xi- l- anti-nu X, using the 3.5 million hadronic Z events collected by
the DELPHI experiment in the years 1992--1995. The Xi- was reconstructed
through the decay Xi- -> Lambda pi-, using a constrained fit method for cascade
decays. An iterative discriminant analysis was used for the Xi_c^0 and Xi_b
selection. The production rates were measured to be f_{Xi_c^0} x BR(Xi_c^0 ->
Xi- pi+)= (4.7 +/- 1.4 (stat.) +/- 1.1 (syst.))10^{-4} per hadronic Z decay,
and BR(b -> Xi_b) x BR(Xi_b -> Xi- l- X)= (3.0 +/- 1.0 (stat.) +/- 0.3
(syst.))10^{-4} for each lepton species (electron or muon). The lifetime of the
Xi_b baryon was measured to be tau_{Xi_b} = 1.45{^{+0.55}_{-0.43}} (stat.) +/-
0.13 (syst.) ps. A combination with the previous DELPHI lifetime measurement
gives tau_{Xi_b} = 1.48{^{+0.40}_{-0.31}} (stat.) +/- 0.12 (syst.) ps.Comment: 21 pages, 9 figures, Accepted by Eur. Phys. J.
Masses, Lifetimes and Production Rates of Xi- and anti-Xi+ at LEP 1
Measurements of the Xi- and anti-Xi+ masses, mass differences, lifetimes and
lifetime differences are presented. The anti-Xi+ sample used is much larger
than those used previously for such measurements. In addition, the Xi
production rates in Z -> b anti-b and Z -> q anti-q events are compared and the
position xi* of the maximum of the xi distribution in Z -> q anti-q events is
measured.Comment: 20 pages, 6 figures, Accepted by Phys. Lett.
