    DIGITAL DIVIDE IN PERUVIAN HIGHER EDUCATION: A POST-PANDEMIC REVIEW

    By early 2020, the COVID-19 pandemic paralyzed the world, with the origin being the Chinese city of Wuhan. By March 11, 2020, the World Health Organization (WHO) declared COVID-19 a pandemic.  The dire consequences of this disease were reflected in a historic global recession, and in the health field, SARS-CoV-2 had wreaked havoc, especially in the elderly, due to worse manifestations and higher mortality rates. As a result, most countries were able to curb the spread of the virus by imposing mandatory measures such as not leaving their homes and very strict timetables. Among the measures considered was the closure of educational institutions, including universities. At that time, there was a paradigm shift in the way educators had to change the way they taught classes by making use of various online platforms. Online, distance and continuing education learning became a panacea for this unprecedented global pandemic for both educators and students. In this review, a passage is made through the different scenarios experienced by the COVID-19 pandemic, taking into account several objectives such as: the COVID-19, and the case of universities, the educational transition: from face-to-face to virtuality, challenges and opportunities after the pandemic, and last but not least, how the Peruvian State, was able to cope with the pandemic of Covid-19, and the challenges that should continue to be considered after the pandemic

    Learning experiences about intangible heritage conservation for sustainability in biosphere reserves

    This paper presents case studies on different approaches to sustainable development carried out in the UNESCO MAB (Man and Biosphere) World Biosphere Reserve Network in Latin America and the Caribbean. In 2012, Latin America and the Caribbean had 116 biosphere reserves designated in 21 countries. In this region several biosphere reserves have implemented important management actions towards sustainable development by conserving ecosystem services and biodiversity (UNESCO 2006; 2008). These case studies highlight good practices on the use of traditional knowledge by scientific research and education for cultural and biological diversity conservation to the benefit of local and Indigenous communities. They focus on improving recognition of the unique ecological knowledge of these communities in Cabo de Hornos (Chile) and Bosawas (Nicaragua), and in the Caribbean: Sierra del Rosario and Cuchilla del Toa (Cuba). Moreover, they explore and reinforce the links between biological and cultural diversities in these outstanding sites, through local and Indigenous knowledge for the sustainable management of those sites.Cet article présente des études de cas de différentes approches du développement durable réalisées sous l’égide du Réseau mondial des réserves de biosphère de la division Homme et biosphère de l’UNESCO en Amérique latine et dans les Caraïbes. En 2012, l’Amérique latine et les Caraïbes possédaient 116 réserves de biosphère désignées dans 21 pays. Dans cette région, plusieurs réserves de biosphère ont mis en œuvre d’importantes actions de gestion visant le développement durable en conservant les services écosystémiques et biodiversité. UNESCO 2006; 2008). Ces études de cas mettent en lumière les bonnes pratiques concernant l’usage qui est fait du savoir traditionnel par la recherche et l’enseignement scientifiques en vue de la conservation de la diversité culturelle et biologique au bénéfice des communautés locales et autochtones. Elles se concentrent sur l’amélioration du savoir écologique unique de ces communautés du cap Horn (Chili) et de la réserve Bosawas (Nicaragua) ainsi que, dans les Caraïbes, de la Sierra del Rosario et de la Cuchillas del Toa (Cuba). En outre, elles explorent et renforcent les liens entre la diversité culturelle et la diversité biologique dans ces sites exceptionnels par le biais du savoir local et autochtone pour la gestion durable de ces sites

    Emotional Intelligence in Times of Covid-19: a Comparative Study in Peruvian Universities

    Objective:The aim of the study was to compare emotional intelligence in Peruvian university students from public and private universities.Theoretical framework: In higher education, emotionally intelligent students have the ability to interact appropriately with others, achieve good academic results, and reach personal and professional goals.Method: The methodology was descriptive-comparative, the sample consisted of 838 university students of both sexes from public (471) and private (364) universities belonging to the coast, highlands and jungle regions of Peru. A sociodemographic form created for the study and the emotional intelligence scale (TMMS-24) were used as measurement instruments.Results and conclusion:The results showed that university students over 30 years of age, women, those from the highlands and those who worked had high levels of emotional intelligence.Implications of the research:It is necessary for university institutions to reorganize their academic conditions and provide the necessary inputs to apply socioemotional strategies to students. Researchers linked to the lines of research on emotional intelligence should develop predictive studies to know which factors may be predicting adequate or inadequate emotional intelligence in university students.Originality:This study demonstrates that it is essential to attend to and provide emotional intelligence tools to those students whodo not have the necessary resources to face different situations in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic and contributes to the training of educators, especially environmental educators in crisis contexts

    Comparison of design concepts in multi-criteria decision-making using level diagrams

    [EN] In this work, we address the evaluation of design concepts and the analysis of multiple Pareto fronts in multi-criteria decision-making using level diagrams. Such analysis is relevant when two (or more) design concepts with different design alternatives lie in the same objective space, but describe different Pareto fronts. Therefore, the problem can be stated as a Pareto front comparison between two (or more) design concepts that only differ in their relative complexity, implementation issues, or the theory applied to solve the problem at hand. Such analysis will help the decision maker obtain a better insight of a conceptual solution and be able to decide if the use of a complex concept is justified instead of a simple concept. The approach is validated in a set of multi-criteria decision making benchmark problems. © 2012 Elsevier Inc.     Impacto del pretratamiento con inhibidores P2Y12 en pacientes con síndromes coronarios agudos sin elevación del ST. Análisis de dos registros multicéntricos

    Objectives. To evaluate the rate of use of antiplatelet pretreatment in patients with non-ST elevated acute coronary syndrome (NSTEACS) and its association with adverse events in two Argentine registries. Materials and methods. We retrospectively analyzed two Argentine acute coronary syndrome (ACS) registries from 2017 and 2022. We explored the incidence of pretreatment and the drug used. We evaluated the relationship between this strategy and a composite clinical outcome of in-hospital events: death + myocardial infarction + stent thrombosis + post-MI angina + transient ischemic event/cerebrovascular event, and with bleeding events (BARC 2 or higher). Subsequently, we performed a multivariate analysis by logistic regression with other clinical variables. Results. A total of 1297 patients were included; 75.6% were men, 25.6% diabetics, 27.1% smokers, 70.3% hypertensive, and 23.1% had a previous ACS. The mean age was 55.3 years. The mean GRACE score was 113.5, and the CRUSADE was 23.8. 44% of the patients received pretreatment, the majority with clopidogrel (93.5%). Pretreatment was significantly associated with a higher incidence of the composite clinical outcome (10.1% vs. 6.9%) (OR 1,56; IC 95%: 1,06-2,3; p=0,02). Bleeding events were numerically more frequent with pretreatment (8.7% vs. 5.9%) (OR 1,51; IC95%: 0,99 -2,3; p=0,054). In the multivariate analysis, pretreatment was no longer associated with a higher incidence of ischemic outcomes (OR 1,4; IC95%: 0,89-2,3; p=0,13). Conclusion. Pretreatment was used in almost half of the patients, mainly with clopidogrel, and did not show a reduction in ischemic events in patients with NSTACS.Objetivos. Evaluar la tasa de uso de pretratamiento antiagregante en pacientes con síndrome coronario agudo sin elevación del segmento ST (SCASEST) y su asociación con eventos adversos en dos registros argentinos. Materiales y métodos. Se analizaron retrospectivamente dos registros argentinos de síndromes coronarios agudos (SCA) de 2017 y 2022. Se exploró la incidencia de pretratamiento y el fármaco utilizado y se evaluó la relación entre esta estrategia y un resultado clínico compuesto de eventos intrahospitalarios: muerte + infarto de miocardio + trombosis del stent + angina postinfarto + accidente isquémico transitorio/accidente cerebro vascular más los eventos hemorrágicos (BARC 2 o superior). Posteriormente, se realizó un análisis multivariado por regresión logística con otras variables clínicas. Resultados. Se incluyeron 1297 pacientes. El 75,6% eran hombres, 25,6% diabéticos, 27,1% fumadores, 70,3% hipertensos y 23,1% tenían un SCA previo. La edad media era de 55,3 años. La puntuación GRACE media fue de 113,5 y la CRUSADE de 23,8. El 44% de los pacientes recibieron pretratamiento, la mayoría con clopidogrel (93,5%). El pretratamiento se asoció significativamente con una mayor incidencia del resultado clínico compuesto (10,1% vs. 6,9%) (OR 1,56; IC 95%: 1,06-2,3; p=0,02). Los eventos hemorrágicos fueron numéricamente más frecuentes con el pretratamiento (8,7% frente a 5,9%) (OR 1,51; 0,99-2,3; p=0,054). En el análisis multivariado el pretratamiento ya no se asoció con una mayor incidencia de desenlaces isquémicos (OR 1,4; 0,89-2,3; p=0,13) ni hemorrágicos. Conclusiones.     Multiobjective evolutionary algorithms for multivariable PI controller design

    A multiobjective optimisation engineering design (MOED) methodology for PI controller tuning in multivariable processes is presented. The MOED procedure is a natural approach for facing multiobjective problems where several requirements and specifications need to be fulfilled. An algorithm based on the differential evolution technique and spherical pruning is used for this purpose. To evaluate the methodology, a multivariable control benchmark is used.
