Self-managed programmes in homeless care as (reinvented) institutions
Purpose: Self-managed institutional homeless programmes started as an alternative to regular shelters. Using institutional theory as a lens, we aim to explore the experiences of stakeholders with the institutional aspects of a self-managed programs. Method: The data we analysed (56 interviews, both open and semi-structured) were generated in a longitudinal participatory case-study into JES, a self-managed homeless shelter. In our analysis we went back and forth between our empirical data and theory, using a combination of systematic coding and interpretation. Participants were involved in all stages of the research. Results: Our analysis revealed similarities between JES and regular shelters, stemming from institutional similarities. Participants shared space and facilities with sixteen people, which caused an ongoing discussion on (enforcement of) rules. Participants loathed lack of private space. However, participants experienced freedom of choice over both their own life and management of JES and structures were experienced more fluid than in regular care. Some structures also appeared stimulated self-management. Conclusion: Our analysis showed how an institutional context influences self-management and suggested opportunities for introducing freedom and fluidity in institutional care
Isobutyl acetate: electronic state spectroscopy by high-resolution vacuum ultraviolet photoabsorption, He(I) photoelectron spectroscopy and ab initio calculations
The high-resolution vacuum ultraviolet photoabsorption spectrum of isobutyl acetate, C6H12O2, is presented here and was measured over the energy range 4.3â10.8 eV (290â115 nm). Valence and Rydberg transitions with their associated vibronic series have been observed in the photoabsorption spectrum and are assigned in accordance with new ab initio calculations of the vertical excitation energies and oscillator strengths. The measured photoabsorption cross sections have been used to calculate the photolysis lifetime of this ester in the Earthâs upper atmosphere (20â50 km). Calculations have also been carried out to determine the ionization energies and fine structure of the lowest ionic state of isobutyl acetate and are compared with a photoelectron spectrum (from 9.5 to 16.7 eV), recorded for the first time. Vibrational structure is observed in the first photoelectron band of this molecule
European Multidisciplinary and Water-Column Observatory - European Research Infrastructure Consortium (EMSO ERIC): challenges and opportunities for strategic European marine sciences
EMSO (European Multidisciplinary Seafloor and water-column Observatory,
www.emso-eu.org) is a largeâscale European Research Infrastructure I. It
is a distributed infrastructure of strategically placed, deepâsea seafloor and water
column observatory nodes with the essential scientific objective of realâtime, longterm
observation of environmental processes related to the interaction between the
geosphere, biosphere, and hydrosphere. The geographic locations of the EMSO observatory
nodes represent key sites in European waters, from the Arctic, through the
Atlantic and Mediterranean, to the Black Sea (Figure 1), as defined through previous
studies performed in FP6 and FP7 EC projects such as ESONETâCA, ESONETâNoE,

Following Gluonic World Lines to Find the QCD Coupling in the Infrared
Using a parametrization of the Wilson loop with the minimal-area law, we
calculate the polarization operator of a valence gluon, which propagates in the
confining background. This enables us to obtain the infrared freezing (i.e.
finiteness) of the running strong coupling in the confinement phase, as well as
in the deconfinement phase up to the temperature of dimensional reduction. The
momentum scale defining the onset of freezing is found both analytically and
numerically. The nonperturbative contribution to the thrust variable,
originating from the freezing, makes the value of this variable closer to the

Heavy-quark condensate at zero- and nonzero temperatures for various forms of the short-distance potential
With the use of the world-line formalism, the heavy-quark condensate in the
SU(N)-QCD is evaluated for the cases when the next-to-1/r term in the
quark-antiquark potential at short distances is either quadratic, or linear. In
the former case, the standard QCD-sum-rules result is reproduced, while the
latter result is a novel one. Explicitly, it is UV-finite only in less than
four dimensions. This fact excludes a possibility to have, in four dimensions,
very short strings (whose length has the scale of the lattice spacing), and
consequently the short-range linear potential (if it exists) cannot violate the
OPE. In any number of dimensions, the obtained novel expression for the quark
condensate depends on the string tension at short distances, rather than on the
gluon condensate, and grows linearly with the number of colors in the same way
as the standard QCD-sum-rules expression. The use of the world-line formalism
enables one to generalize further both results to the case of finite
temperatures. A generalization of the QCD-sum-rules expression to the case of
an arbitrary number of space-time dimensions is also obtained and is shown to
be UV-finite, provided this number is smaller than six.Comment: 11 pages, no figure

Status of a hybrid three-neutrino interpretation of neutrino data
We reanalyze the non-standard interaction (NSI) solutions to the solar
neutrino problem in the light of the latest solar, atmospheric and reactor
neutrino data. We show that such solutions, although preferred by the solar
data and consistent with the oscillation description of the atmospheric
neutrino data, are ruled out by the first results of the KamLAND reactor

Revealing Bell's Nonlocality for Unstable Systems in High Energy Physics
Entanglement and its consequences - in particular the violation of Bell
inequalities, which defies our concepts of realism and locality - have been
proven to play key roles in Nature by many experiments for various quantum
systems. Entanglement can also be found in systems not consisting of ordinary
matter and light, i.e. in massive meson--antimeson systems. Bell inequalities
have been discussed for these systems, but up to date no direct experimental
test to conclusively exclude local realism was found. This mainly stems from
the fact that one only has access to a restricted class of observables and that
these systems are also decaying. In this Letter we put forward a Bell
inequality for unstable systems which can be tested at accelerator facilities
with current technology. Herewith, the long awaited proof that such systems at
different energy scales can reveal the sophisticated "dynamical" nonlocal
feature of Nature in a direct experiment gets feasible. Moreover, the role of
entanglement and CP violation, an asymmetry between matter and antimatter, is
explored, a special feature offered only by these meson-antimeson systems.Comment: 6 pages, 3 figure
