    Los y las profesionales vinculados/as a los servicios de atención a mujeres víctimas de violencia machista observamos, con preocupación, el aumento de mujeres jóvenes que solicitan ser atendidas por estos servicios. Así mismo, resultan alarmantes los datos que aportan los estudios sobre percepción de violencia en las relaciones heterosexuales de pareja juveniles. Entendemos que una de las razones para que esto siga sucediendo reside en la internalización de ideas naturalizadoras de las desigualdades. Para tratar de dar respuesta a esta inquietud, nos propusimos conocer qué entiende la población juvenil por igualdad en las relaciones de pareja. En este artículo expondremos la utilidad de la Fotointervención como técnica que nos permitió problematizar la igualdad en las relaciones de pareja juveniles. La fotointervención facilitó a los y las jóvenes participantes de la investigación identificar comportamientos y actitudes de igualdad y/o desigualdad en las relaciones de pareja; dialogar entorno a la normalización de comportamientos sexistas sostenidos por estereotipos de género que imposibilitan la el trato igualitario en la relación de pareja; y proponer acciones concretas promotoras de igualdad en la relación de parej

    The Effects of Stellar Rotation. I. Impact on the Ionizing Spectra and Integrated Properties of Stellar Populations

    We present a sample of synthetic massive stellar populations created using the Starburst99 evolutionary synthesis code and new sets of stellar evolutionary tracks, including one set that adopts a detailed treatment of rotation. Using the outputs of the Starburst99 code, we compare the populations' integrated properties, including ionizing radiation fields, bolometric luminosities, and colors. With these comparisons we are able to probe the specific effects of rotation on the properties of a stellar population. We find that a population of rotating stars produces a much harder ionizing radiation field and a higher bolometric luminosity, changes that are primarily attributable to the effects of rotational mixing on the lifetimes, luminosities, effective temperatures, and mass loss rates of massive stars. We consider the implications of the profound effects that rotation can have on a stellar population, and discuss the importance of refining stellar evolutionary models for future work in the study of extragalactic, and particularly high-redshift, stellar populations.Comment: 13 pages, 8 figures; accepted for publication in the Astrophysical Journa

Fruto del trabajo de las investigaciones cualitativas que venimos desarrollando, se detecta la persistencia de un sistema patriarcal que dificulta el desarrollo de relaciones igualitarias. Se hace pues, necesario, conocer esta realidad para así plantear propuestas educativas que favorezcan el crecimiento de los niños y niñas en modelos de relación igualitario

    Knowledge-based: facilitating access to medicines in Latin America

    The World Health Organization (WHO), with the scientific support of the International Pharmaceutical Federation (FIP), guides the development of multisource pharmaceutical products for market authorization using in vivo bioequivalence studies or, where applicable,  in vitro biowaiver strategies based on the Biopharmaceutical Classification System (BCS). A review of the regulatory framework guiding generic medicines approval in Latin American countries revealed that less than 50% of regional health authorities offer a generic medicines development pathway utilizing a BCS-based biowaiver strategy. Aligned with the ONE FIP Strategy to facilitate access to medicines, a regional case study was carried out to implement and harmonize BCS-based biowaiver knowledge in Latin American countries. A steering committee involving regional representatives from health authorities, the pharmaceutical industry, and universities were established to coordinate to develop activities. A series of digital engagement events were held in Spanish and English with representatives from Latin America to share knowledge on BCS-based regulatory strategy, promote collaborations, and explore the alignment of biowaiver approval and regulatory pathways among Latin American countries. Feedback from diverse Latin American stakeholders demonstrated inconsistent implementation of bioequivalence testing within the region. However, there is support for a synergistic approach among countries to reduce duplication and increase efficiency in market authorization for generic medicines. This includes alignment with the WHO Prequalification of Medicines program as well as the development of a computational database for the classification of active pharmaceutical ingredients to demonstrate therapeutic interchangeability of immediate-release oral dosage forms according to the BCS. FIP-facilitated digital learning opportunities raised awareness of the BCS-based biowaiver regulatory strategy among Latin American stakeholders. It resulted in a plan to continually strengthen collaborative efforts in the region to harmonize regulations relevant to drug development generics medicines to introduce cost-effective medicines products that benefit public health

    Hierarchical characterization of complex networks

    While the majority of approaches to the characterization of complex networks has relied on measurements considering only the immediate neighborhood of each network node, valuable information about the network topological properties can be obtained by considering further neighborhoods. The current work discusses on how the concepts of hierarchical node degree and hierarchical clustering coefficient (introduced in cond-mat/0408076), complemented by new hierarchical measurements, can be used in order to obtain a powerful set of topological features of complex networks. The interpretation of such measurements is discussed, including an analytical study of the hierarchical node degree for random networks, and the potential of the suggested measurements for the characterization of complex networks is illustrated with respect to simulations of random, scale-free and regular network models as well as real data (airports, proteins and word associations). The enhanced characterization of the connectivity provided by the set of hierarchical measurements also allows the use of agglomerative clustering methods in order to obtain taxonomies of relationships between nodes in a network, a possibility which is also illustrated in the current article.Comment: 19 pages, 23 figure

    What Darwin did not see : Pleistocene fossil assemblages on a highenergy coast at Ponta das Bicudas, Santiago, Cape Verde Islands

    Two distinct Pleistocene assemblages from SE Santiago Island are comparable to modern analogues elsewhere in the Cape Verde Islands. A low-diversity Siderastrea radians assemblage lived atop basalt knobs surrounded by sand on a slope below a cliff. A Millepora alcicornis–Megabalanus azoricus assemblage occupied the cliff. The latter was a typical rocky-shore assemblage from a high-energy setting belowthe tidal zone.Bioerosion structures in basalt produced by Circolites kotoncensis and Gastrochaenolites isp. also occur there. Despite extensive studies on local limestone deposits in 1832 and 1836, lack of exposure prevented Darwin from seeing these fossils.Funding for fieldwork on Santiago Island in June 2011 was provided under grant CGL2010-15372-BTE from the Spanish Ministry of Science and Innovation to project leader Eduardo Mayoral (University of Huelva).     Orbit Determination of Close Binary Systems using Lucky Imaging

    We present relative positions of visual binaries observed during 2009 with the FastCam "lucky-imaging" camera at the 1.5-m Carlos Sanchez Telescope (TCS) at the Observatorio del Teide. We obtained 424 CCD observations (averaged in 198 mean relative positions) of 157 binaries with angular separations in the range 0.14-15.40", with a median separation of 0.51". For a given system, each CCD image represents the sum of the best 10-25% images from 1000-5000 short-exposure frames. Derived internal errors were 7 mas in r and 1.2^{\circ} (9 mas) in q. When comparing to systems with very well-known orbits, we find that the rms deviation in r residuals is 23 mas, while the rms deviation in q residuals is 0.73 deg/r. We confirmed 18 Hipparcos binaries and we report new companions to BVD 36 A and J 621 B. For binaries with preliminary orbital parameters, the relative radial velocity was estimated as well. We also present four new revised orbits computed for LDS 873, BU 627 A-BC, BU 628 and HO 197 AB.     Cucurbiturils as supramolecular inhibitors of DNA restriction by type II endonucleases

    Cucurbiturils (CB6 and CB7) were shown to inhibit the enzymatically catalyzed restriction of plasmids and linear DNA. This effect can be inverted by supramolecular masking of the macrocycles through competitive complexation with polyamines.
