Quark Spectrum above but near Critical Temperature of Chiral Transition
We explore the quark properties at finite temperature near but above the
critical temperature of the chiral phase transition. We investigate the effects
of the precursory soft mode of the phase transition on the quark dispersion
relation and the spectral function. It is found that there appear novel
excitation spectra of quasi-quarks and quasi-antiquarks with a three-peak
structure, which are not attributed to the hard-thermal-loop approximation. We
show that the new spectra originate from the mixing between a quark
(anti-quark) and an anti-quark hole (quark hole) caused by a ``resonant
scattering'' of the quasi-fermions with the thermally-excited soft mode which

Nuclear and nucleon transitions of the H di-baryon
We consider 3 types of processes pertinent to the phenomenology of an H
di-baryon: conversion of two 's in a doubly-strange hypernucleus to an
H, decay of the H to two baryons, and -- if the H is light enough -- conversion
of two nucleons in a nucleus to an H. We compute the spatial wavefunction
overlap using the Isgur-Karl and Bethe-Goldstone wavefunctions, and treat the
weak interactions phenomenologically. The observation of decays from
doubly-strange hypernuclei puts a constraint on the H wavefunction which is
plausibly satisfied. In this case the H is very long-lived as we calculate. An
absolutely stable H is not excluded at present. SuperK can provide valuable
limits
Observing many body effects on lepton pair production from low mass enhancement and flow at RHIC and LHC energies
The spectral function at finite temperature calculated using the
real-time formalism of thermal field theory is used to evaluate the low mass
dilepton spectra. The analytic structure of the propagator is studied
and contributions to the dilepton yield in the region below the bare
peak from the different cuts in the spectral function are discussed. The
space-time integrated yield shows significant enhancement in the region below
the bare peak in the invariant mass spectra. It is argued that the
variation of the inverse slope of the transverse mass () distribution can
be used as an efficient tool to predict the presence of two different phases of
the matter during the evolution of the system. Sensitivity of the effective
temperature obtained from the slopes of the spectra to the medium effects
are studied
Evaluation of a national universal coverage campaign of long-lasting insecticidal nets in a rural district in north-west Tanzania.

Insecticide-treated nets (ITN) are one of the most effective measures for preventing malaria. Mass distribution campaigns are being used to rapidly increase net coverage in at-risk populations. This study had two purposes: to evaluate the impact of a universal coverage campaign (UCC) of long-lasting insecticidal nets (LLINs) on LLIN ownership and usage, and to identify factors that may be associated with inadequate coverage. In 2011 two cross-sectional household surveys were conducted in 50 clusters in Muleba district, north-west Tanzania. Prior to the UCC 3,246 households were surveyed and 2,499 afterwards. Data on bed net ownership and usage, demographics of household members and household characteristics including factors related to socio-economic status were gathered, using an adapted version of the standard Malaria Indicator Survey. Specific questions relating to the UCC process were asked. The proportion of households with at least one ITN increased from 62.6% (95% Confidence Interval (CI) = 60.9-64.2) before the UCC to 90.8% (95% CI = 89.0-92.3) afterwards. ITN usage in all residents rose from 40.8% to 55.7%. After the UCC 58.4% (95% CI = 54.7-62.1) of households had sufficient ITNs to cover all their sleeping places. Households with children under five years (OR = 2.4, 95% CI = 1.9-2.9) and small households (OR = 1.9, 95% CI = 1.5-2.4) were most likely to reach universal coverage. Poverty was not associated with net coverage. Eighty percent of households surveyed received LLINs from the campaign. The UCC in Muleba district of Tanzania was equitable, greatly improving LLIN ownership and, more moderately, usage. However, the goal of universal coverage in terms of the adequate provision of nets was not achieved. Multiple, continuous delivery systems and education activities are required to maintain and improve bed net ownership and usage.\ud

Charmonium Suppression and Regeneration from SPS to RHIC
The production of charmonia is investigated for heavy-ion collisions from SPS
to RHIC energies. Our approach incorporates two sources of yield: (i)
a direct contribution arising from early (hard) parton-parton collisions,
subject to subsequent nuclear absorption, quark-gluon plasma and hadronic
dissociation, and (ii) statistical production at the hadronization transition
by coalescence of and quarks. Within an expanding thermal
fireball framework, the model reproduces centrality dependencies
observed at the SPS in Pb-Pb and S-U collisions reasonably well. The study of
the ratio at SPS points at the importance of the hadronic phase
for interactions, possibly related to effects of chiral symmetry
restoration. Predictions are given for the centrality dependence of the
ratio at full RHIC energy. We also calculate the
excitation function of this ratio. The latter exhibits a characteristic minimum
structure signalling the transition from the standard suppression
scenario prevailing at SPS to dominantly thermal regeneration at collider

Measurements of the branching fractions of B+→ppK+ decays
The branching fractions of the decay B+ → pp̄K+ for different intermediate states are measured using data, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 1.0 fb-1, collected by the LHCb experiment. The total branching fraction, its charmless component Mpp̄ < 2.85 GeV/c2 and the branching fractions via the resonant cc̄ states η c(1S) and ψ(2S) relative to the decay via a J/ψ intermediate state are [Equation not available: see fulltext.] Upper limits on the B + branching fractions into the η c(2S) meson and into the charmonium-like states X(3872) and X(3915) are also obtained
Differential branching fraction and angular analysis of decays
The differential branching fraction of the rare decay is measured as a function of , the
square of the dimuon invariant mass. The analysis is performed using
proton-proton collision data, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 3.0
\mbox{ fb}^{-1}, collected by the LHCb experiment. Evidence of signal is
observed in the region below the square of the mass. Integrating
over 15 < q^{2} < 20 \mbox{ GeV}^2/c^4 the branching fraction is measured as
d\mathcal{B}(\Lambda^{0}_{b} \rightarrow \Lambda \mu^+\mu^-)/dq^2 = (1.18 ^{+
0.09} _{-0.08} \pm 0.03 \pm 0.27) \times 10^{-7} ( \mbox{GeV}^{2}/c^{4})^{-1},
where the uncertainties are statistical, systematic and due to the
normalisation mode, , respectively.
In the intervals where the signal is observed, angular distributions are
studied and the forward-backward asymmetries in the dimuon ()
and hadron () systems are measured for the first time. In the
range 15 < q^2 < 20 \mbox{ GeV}^2/c^4 they are found to be A^{l}_{\rm FB} =
-0.05 \pm 0.09 \mbox{ (stat)} \pm 0.03 \mbox{ (syst)} and A^{h}_{\rm FB} =
-0.29 \pm 0.07 \mbox{ (stat)} \pm 0.03 \mbox{ (syst)}.Comment: 27 pages, 10 figures, Erratum adde
Measurement of the mass and lifetime of the baryon
A proton-proton collision data sample, corresponding to an integrated
luminosity of 3 fb collected by LHCb at and 8 TeV, is used
to reconstruct , decays. Using the , decay mode for calibration, the lifetime ratio and absolute
lifetime of the baryon are measured to be \begin{align*}
\frac{\tau_{\Omega_b^-}}{\tau_{\Xi_b^-}} &= 1.11\pm0.16\pm0.03, \\
\tau_{\Omega_b^-} &= 1.78\pm0.26\pm0.05\pm0.06~{\rm ps}, \end{align*} where the
uncertainties are statistical, systematic and from the calibration mode (for
only). A measurement is also made of the mass difference,
, and the corresponding mass, which
yields \begin{align*} m_{\Omega_b^-}-m_{\Xi_b^-} &= 247.4\pm3.2\pm0.5~{\rm
MeV}/c^2, \\ m_{\Omega_b^-} &= 6045.1\pm3.2\pm 0.5\pm0.6~{\rm MeV}/c^2.

Study of and decays and determination of the CKM angle
We report a study of the suppressed and favored
decays, where the neutral meson is detected
through its decays to the and CP-even and
final states. The measurement is carried out using a proton-proton
collision data sample collected by the LHCb experiment, corresponding to an
integrated luminosity of 3.0~fb. We observe the first significant
signals in the CP-even final states of the meson for both the suppressed
and favored modes, as well as
in the doubly Cabibbo-suppressed final state of the decay. Evidence for the ADS suppressed decay , with , is also presented. From the observed
yields in the , and their
charge conjugate decay modes, we measure the value of the weak phase to be
. This is one of the most precise

Model-independent evidence for contributions to decays
The data sample of decays acquired with the
LHCb detector from 7 and 8~TeV collisions, corresponding to an integrated
luminosity of 3 fb, is inspected for the presence of or
contributions with minimal assumptions about
contributions. It is demonstrated at more than 9 standard deviations that
decays cannot be described with
contributions alone, and that contributions play a dominant role in
this incompatibility. These model-independent results support the previously
obtained model-dependent evidence for charmonium-pentaquark
