Radiobiology & Radiation Benefits in Alzheimer’s from CT: a physics assessment

This work is a review and assessment of research literature on Alzheimer’s disease (AD) today which is an irreversible neurological disorder, that continuously decreases the individual’s memory and thinking skills and, suddenly, the ability to carry out the simplest functions of daily living. Although treatment can only help manage the symptoms of AD, there is no cure for the disease. CT imaging is proven to be somewhat helpful in the detection of AD disease similar to MRI, multiple repeat CT seems to show promise in part-reversing the loss (radiation Hormesis). Invivo exposure, spatial distribution, and quantitative characterization could be essential markers in diagnosing and assessing AD progression. Phase-Contrast X-ray microcomputed tomography (micro CT) is an emerging highly sensitive imaging technique capable of high resolution and impressive soft tissue discrimination. FDG and Pittsburgh compound B PET are functional tools to map affected brain with AD. There is a potential to extend it to imaging precise 3D information about the inner structures of the entire brain in future using clinical CT machines but with phase contrast software without requiring thin sections. However, we feel clinical scanners with phase contrast modes will not provide the plaque imaging exactly for 50 μm for individual plaques but plaque tangles and high tissue contrast resolution for hippocampus structures as in highfield MRI may be possible by phase contrast CT

“Recaudación de tributos aduaneros y el desarrollo económico social de la región Callao en los años 2009-2015”

Los Tributos Aduaneros representan una fuente de ingresos muy representativos para el Perú, debido a su actividad de comercio internacional que tiene con el resto del Mundo, y la Región Callao tiene ese privilegio de ser el puerto más importante del país. Nuestra investigación presentó como objetivo; el determinar como la recaudación de tributos aduaneros influye en el Desarrollo Económico Social de la Región Callao en los años 2009- 2015. El tipo de investigación fue aplicada, no experimental de corte longitudinal que analizó la relación que existe entre Recaudación de Tributos Aduaneros y el Desarrollo Económico y Social de la Región Callao, tomando como referencia los indicadores que involucran al PBI per cápita, para el aspecto económico y los indicadores en relación al sector educativo y de salud para el aspecto social. Cabe resaltar que la información estadística utilizada fue recogida de fuentes confiables, como el Instituto Nacional de Estadística e Informática, el Ministerio de Educación y el Ministerio de salud, asimismo como la información del área de presupuesto de la Región Callao, dicha información se procesó para elaborar una base de datos que permitió obtener los resultados y demostrar las hipótesis correspondientes. Marburg virus survivor immune responses are Th1 skewed with limited neutralizing antibody responses.

Until recently, immune responses in filovirus survivors remained poorly understood. Early studies revealed IgM and IgG responses to infection with various filoviruses, but recent outbreaks have greatly expanded our understanding of filovirus immune responses. Immune responses in survivors of Ebola virus (EBOV) and Sudan virus (SUDV) infections have provided the most insight, with T cell responses as well as detailed antibody responses having been characterized. Immune responses to Marburg virus (MARV), however, remain almost entirely uncharacterized. We report that immune responses in MARV survivors share characteristics with EBOV and SUDV infections but have some distinct differences. MARV survivors developed multivariate CD4+ T cell responses but limited CD8+ T cell responses, more in keeping with SUDV survivors than EBOV survivors. In stark contrast to SUDV survivors, rare neutralizing antibody responses in MARV survivors diminished rapidly after the outbreak. These results warrant serious consideration for any vaccine or therapeutic that seeks to be broadly protective, as different filoviruses may require different immune responses to achieve immunity

The Tudor SND1 protein is an m6A RNA reader essential for replication of Kaposi’s sarcoma-associated herpesvirus

N6-methyladenosine (m6A) is the most abundant internal RNA modification of cellular mRNAs. m6A is recognised by YTH domain-containing proteins, which selectively bind to m6A-decorated RNAs regulating their turnover and translation. Using an m6A-modified hairpin present in the Kaposi’s sarcoma associated herpesvirus (KSHV) ORF50 RNA, we identified seven members from the ‘Royal family’ as putative m6A readers, including SND1. RIP-seq and eCLIP analysis characterised the SND1 binding profile transcriptome-wide, revealing SND1 as an m6A reader. We further demonstrate that the m6A modification of the ORF50 RNA is critical for SND1 binding, which in turn stabilises the ORF50 transcript. Importantly, SND1 depletion leads to inhibition of KSHV early gene expression showing that SND1 is essential for KSHV lytic replication. This work demonstrates that members of the ‘Royal family’ have m6A-reading ability, greatly increasing their epigenetic functions beyond protein methylation

Abortive Lytic Reactivation of KSHV in CBF1/CSL Deficient Human B Cell Lines

Since Kaposi's sarcoma associated herpesvirus (KSHV) establishes a persistent infection in human B cells, B cells are a critical compartment for viral pathogenesis. RTA, the replication and transcription activator of KSHV, can either directly bind to DNA or use cellular DNA binding factors including CBF1/CSL as DNA adaptors. In addition, the viral factors LANA1 and vIRF4 are known to bind to CBF1/CSL and modulate RTA activity. To analyze the contribution of CBF1/CSL to reactivation in human B cells, we have successfully infected DG75 and DG75 CBF1/CSL knock-out cell lines with recombinant KSHV.219 and selected for viral maintenance by selective medium. Both lines maintained the virus irrespective of their CBF1/CSL status. Viral reactivation could be initiated in both B cell lines but viral genome replication was attenuated in CBF1/CSL deficient lines, which also failed to produce detectable levels of infectious virus. Induction of immediate early, early and late viral genes was impaired in CBF1/CSL deficient cells at multiple stages of the reactivation process but could be restored to wild-type levels by reintroduction of CBF1/CSL. To identify additional viral RTA target genes, which are directly controlled by CBF1/CSL, we analyzed promoters of a selected subset of viral genes. We show that the induction of the late viral genes ORF29a and ORF65 by RTA is strongly enhanced by CBF1/CSL. Orthologs of ORF29a in other herpesviruses are part of the terminase complex required for viral packaging. ORF65 encodes the small capsid protein essential for capsid shell assembly. Our study demonstrates for the first time that in human B cells viral replication can be initiated in the absence of CBF1/CSL but the reactivation process is severely attenuated at all stages and does not lead to virion production. Thus, CBF1/CSL acts as a global hub which is used by the virus to coordinate the lytic cascade

George Guito

George Guito, General Manager of the Columbia Restaurant in Ybor City, Florida, reminisces about his time working at the restaurant. He began working at the restaurant in 1962 as a member of the cleaning staff. Within a couple of years he was given the opportunity to attend school and was trained to be a butcher, eventually working in the Columbia\u27s kitchen. Mr. Guito describes the atmosphere growing up in Ybor City and how the area has changed over the years. There is also a discussion of the Gonzmart generations and their different management styles. Penggunaan Analisis Profitabilitas Pelanggan Dalam Strategi Kebijakan Penetapan Harga Pada PT. X Di Surabaya

Adanya paket kebijakan deregulasi dan debirokrasi dalam setiap sektor ekonomi sangat berpengaruh pada lingkungan usaha. Hal ini mendorong penerapan strategi­ strategi yang dapat menempatkan badan usaha pada posisi yang kompetitif dan mampu mencapai sasaran atau tujuan yang ditetapkan. Penerapan kebijakan penetapan harga yang berbeda untuk segmen pelanggan tertentu merupakan salah satu strategi yang digunakan, seperti halnya penerapan pada PT 'X'. PT 'X' merupakan badan usaha industri yang menghasilkan plat (baja lembaran) sebagai produk utama (divisi II), disamping jasa (divisi 1), pengelolaan scrap dan produksi besi beton (divisi III).Pelanggan PT 'X' terdiri dari para distributor, baik di dalam dan di luar kota maupun luar pulau serta pengecer. Dalarn pembahasan ini terdapat 5 segmen pelanggan, terdiri dari luar pulau, Jakarta, Semarang, distributor Surabaya, pengecer Surabaya. Pengelompokkan segmen ini. sesuai dengan perbedaan kebijakan penetapan harga yang ditetapk:an oleh badan usaha. Melalui Analisis Profitabilitas Pelanggan yang merupakan salah satu laporan akuntansi, menyajikan infonnasi tentang semua pendapatan dan biaya-biaya yang relevan untuk dibebankan kepada pelanggan. Biaya-biaya yang dimaksud adalah customer-driven costs meliputi biaya pengiriman, pelayanan dan pendukung pelanggan dan pasar, biaya pemesanan, distribusi, penjualan, penelitian dan pengembangan, periklanan, pemasaran. Dari hasil ana1isis ini diperoleh informasi tentang marjin laba setiap segmen yang merupakan indikasi keefektifan penerapan perbedaan kebijakan penetapan harga oleh badan usaha. Decision Grid Analysis dan Cumulative Outlet Contribution Analysis membantu pemahaman hasil Analisis Profitabilitas Pelanggan. Cumulative Outlet Contribution Analysis memberikan gambaran tentang variasi perolehan marjin laba masing-masing segmeti dari yang tertinggi hingga yang terendah. Sedangkan Decision Grid Analysis menunjukkan posisi masing-masing segmen pada 4 kategori berdasarkan 2 faktor yaitu marjin laba dan volume penjua1an netto. Segmen pelanggan Jakarta berhasil menempati kategori winner dengan volume terbesar (41,56%) dan marjin laba 24,44%, meskipun dengan potongan penjuaJan, biaya piutang dan ongkos angkut yang tinggi. Yang termasuk kategori potential adalah segmen pelanggan luar pulau dengan marjin laba tertinggi (25,13%), volume 14,07% dan Semarang dengan volume terkecil 3,41%, marjin laba 24,81%. Hal ini berkaital} dengan kemampuan pelunasan piutang yang baik sehingga biaya piutang rendah, walaupun ongkos angkut dan subsidi untuk luar pulau yang terbesar. Segmen distributor Surabaya berada pada kategori problems dengan marjin laba 13,305% dan volume 23,73%. Sedangkan kategori losers ditempati oleh pengecer Surabaya dengan volume 17,2% dan marjin laba -2,2%. Untuk kedua segmen Surabaya belum dapat menunjukkan marjin laba yang memuaskan padahal ongkos kirim yang ditanggung oleh badar. usaha terendah dibanding yang lain dan adanya penambahan harga Rp 50,00 untuk pengecer. Hal ini dipengaruhi perbedaan pelayanan produk terhadap kedua segmen ini. Dirnana ketiga segmen pertama hanya dilayani penjualan produk utama (divisi ll), sedangkan untuk segmen Surabaya dilayani penjualan dari semua produk. Oleh karena itu perlu adanya analisis lebih lanjut tentang produk yang dijual dan perubahan kebijakan penetapan harga yang memungkinkan perbaikan posisi kedua segmen tersebut. Secara umum terdapat 3 hal yang perlu diperhatikan yaitu potongan penjualan, kemampuan pelunasan piutang dan kebijakan penetapan harga untuk divisi I & m. Untuk mengatasi besamya potongan penjualan yang diberikan perJu dibuat Laporan Potongan Penjualan yang memudahkan penelusuran kesalahan, meningkatkan ketelitian pada bagian pemasaran yang menerima pesanan, quality control bagian produksi dan petugas gudang untuk pengecekan sebelurn barang dikirim.Kemampuan pelunasan piutang pelanggan merupakan hal yang cukup berpengaruh terhadap aliran kas badan usaha. Oleh karena itu untuk mengatasi keterlarnbatan pembayaran piutang dengan pemberitahuan ulang sebelum jatuh tempo, memperketat monitor pelunasan piutang dan pelaksanaan plafon kredit yang lebih baik. Berkaitan dengan perlunya analisis lebih lanjut tentang produk yang dijual dan kebijakan penetapan harga produk divisi I & III, dapat dilakukan dengan cara memperpendek syarat kredit, penjualan tunai untuk jenis tertentu, pengiriman barang dengan syarat F.o.b Factory
