Varvarco obsidian: a new source in northwestern Patagonia (Neuquén, Argentina)
In northern Neuquén there are pyroclastic deposits containing obsidian nodules. Then, we described the main characteristics observed under a petrographic microscope. Finally, we present the results of X-ray fluorescence and neutron activation geochemical analysis. The Varvarco obsidian differs from that of Cerro Huenul, but not from the obsidian Maule 1 and 2 from the XRF. NAA discriminates well this new obsidian from those already known in Neuquén. The results obtained allow to reinterpret the availability of good quality lithic resources and to revise the interpretations of mobility and interaction of populations in this region.Fil: Fernández, María Victoria. Mechanisms of change in behavioral activation : adapting depression treatment for autistic people
Despite high rates of co-occurring depression, few studies have developed or adapted treatments targeting depressive symptoms for autistic adults. Behavioral activation is widely accepted as an empirically-supported approach for treating depression in other populations. Careful attention to the mechanisms targeted by behavioral activation is an essential step toward adapting behavioral activation protocols for use with autistic adults. We consider the mechanisms targeted by behavioral activation and provide a framework for research to explore the facilitators and barriers to the use of behavioral activation to treat depression in autistic adults. Drawing upon clinical experience and extant literature, the suggestions presented are aimed at highlighting considerations for clinicians wanting to use behavioral activation programs in their clinical practices with autistic adults and to promote the research needed to establish behavioral activation as an evidence-based practice for treating depression in adults on the autism spectrum

y, sobre esta base, estudiar las redes de movimientos humanos, así como también niveles más amplios de interacción social (Renfrew 1977; Hughes 1998;
Fil: Barberena, Ramiro. Universidad Nacional de Cuyo. Facultad de Ciencias Exactas y Naturales. Laboratorio de Paleoecología Humana; Argentina. The antibiotic resistance reservoir of the lung microbiome expands with age in a population of critically ill patients.
Antimicrobial resistant lower respiratory tract infections are an increasing public health threat and an important cause of global mortality. The lung microbiome can influence susceptibility of respiratory tract infections and represents an important reservoir for exchange of antimicrobial resistance genes. Studies of the gut microbiome have found an association between age and increasing antimicrobial resistance gene burden, however, corollary studies in the lung microbiome remain absent. We performed an observational study of children and adults with acute respiratory failure admitted to the intensive care unit. From tracheal aspirate RNA sequencing data, we evaluated age-related differences in detectable antimicrobial resistance gene expression in the lung microbiome. Using a multivariable logistic regression model, we find that detection of antimicrobial resistance gene expression was significantly higher in adults compared with children after adjusting for demographic and clinical characteristics. This association remained significant after additionally adjusting for lung bacterial microbiome characteristics, and when modeling age as a continuous variable. The proportion of adults expressing beta-lactam, aminoglycoside, and tetracycline antimicrobial resistance genes was higher compared to children. Together, these findings shape our understanding of the lung resistome in critically ill patients across the lifespan, which may have implications for clinical management and global public health
Obsidian geochemistry, geoarchaeology, and lithic technology in northwestern Patagonia (Argentina)
We studied the organization of mobility of hunter-gatherers groups of northwestern Patagonia (Argentina) from an interdisciplinary perspective. We combined geochemical and technological characterization of obsidian assemblages from surface and stratigraphic contexts spanning the Holocene, and a preliminary geoarchaeological study of the sources. The goals were to assess the provenance, mode of supply, use, and discard of obsidian artifacts on the basis of information on the structure of the two main regional sources: Cerro Huenul, located in the lowlands, and Laguna del Maule, located in the Andean highlands. We conducted geoarchaeological field sampling at different altitudes of the Barrancas River fluvial deposits to study the geomorphic impact on the secondary structure of the highland source. Preliminary geoarchaeological results allow extending the area of availability up to 90 km towards the lowlands from the outcrops. In addition, we performed non-destructive XRF analyses on 266 lithic artifacts, which were placed along a continuum of reduction. 89% of the artifacts corresponded to the local Cerro Huenul source, while 11% to Laguna del Maule. While the artifacts made on Cerro Huenul obsidian were represented by the full reduction sequence, those from Laguna del Maule are only represented by advanced stages. We integrate these results with information on the frequencies of projectile points, ceramics, and rock-art motifs for the two main archaeological sites in the region: Cueva Huenul 1 and Cueva Yagui. These proxies indicate that the sites have different place use histories, providing a scheme for the analysis of human use of the regional landscape
