Financial performance of the Turkish textile & ready to wear industry for the period between 1986-1994
Ankara : Department of Management and Graduate School of Business Administration of Bilkent University, 1996.Thesis (Master's) -- Bilkent University, 1996.Includes bibliographical references leaves leaf 39.The Textile & Ready to Wear Industry, with its share of 31.8% among all
Turkish Consumption Goods Production and approximately 40% of share
among all Turkish Exports clearly plays an important role in the overall
Turkish Economy. Therefore the financial performance of such an important
industry is worth investigation. Apart from the total industry, analyzing the
financial performance of the sectors within the industry is as important in
order to understand sector differences.
The aim of this study is to analyze the financial performance of the Turkish
Textile and Ready to Wear Industry and compare the financial performances
of the Textile and Ready to Wear Sectors within the industry for the period
between 1986 and 1994. The method that will be used is Ratio Analysis
based on four criteria which are leverage, liquidity, profitability and market
value.GĂŒĂ§bilmez, DidemM.S
Influence of the processing method and antimicrobial agents on properties of starch-gelatin biodegradable films
[EN] Biodegradable films based on corn starch (CS), bovine gelatin (BG), glycerol as a plasticizer, and lysozyme or N--lauroyl-l-arginine ethyl ester monohydrochloride (LAE) as antimicrobial agents were obtained by both extension-drying (casting) of the aqueous dispersions and melt blending and compression moulding. Microstructural analyses revealed the lack of miscibility between CS and BG, which implied polymer phase separation, with the formation of domains rich in each polymer, with different arrangements for casting and melt blending processes. Thermoprocessed films were more permeable to water vapour (60%-115%) and oxygen (70%-355%) compared to the corresponding cast films and exhibited lower stiffness (50%-75%) and resistance to break (17%-33%) and greater extensibility (150%-190%) than casting films. LAE improved the water vapour barrier and reduced the oxygen barrier of both kinds of films, whereas the opposite effect was observed for lysozyme. Antimicrobial activity against Listeria innocua was observed for formulations containing LAE processed by both casting and compression moulding, all of which exhibited a bactericidal effect. Zein impart hydrophobic and antimicrobial properties to cotton textiles
Supplementary data to this article can be found online at https://doi.org/10.1016/j.reactfunctpolym.2020.104664.In this work, zein, a by-product of the agricultural industry of corn, was used to impart hydrophobicity and antimicrobial activity to textiles. The cotton textiles were functionalized with zein in two different forms, free or as particles. The optimized coating conditions which rendered the highest hydrophobic character to the textiles were found to be 50g/L zein in the free form prepared with 70% ethanol. To enhance the antimicrobial activity of the coated textiles, ellagic acid was encapsulated into the zein particles. These presented stable diameters, between 300 and 450nm, and positive surface charge revealing high encapsulation efficiency. After textiles coating, the controlled release of ellagic acid was tested against different mimetic biologic solutions. The release profile was dependent on the ethanol concentration, on the sweat solution pH and on the external media used during dialysis. The functionalized textiles revealed differentiated antimicrobial activity against Escherichia coli (Gram-negative) and Staphylococcus aureus (Gram-positive). For E. coli the activity was mainly related with the action of zein while for S. aureus a combined effect between the protein and the ellagic acid was observed. The results herein presented pave the way for the development of new zein-based products for a wide range of applications. This study was supported by the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT) under the scope of the strategic funding of UIDB/04469/2020 unit and BioTecNorte operation (NORTE-01-0145-FEDER000004) funded by European Regional Development Fund under the scope of Norte2020 - Programa Operacional Regional do Norte. Optimal exercise of jointly held real options:A Nash bargaining approach with value diversion
This paper provides a two-stage decision framework in which two or more parties exercise a jointly held real option. We show that a single partyâs timing decision is always socially efficient if it precedes bargaining on the terms of sharing. However, if the sharing rule is agreed before the exercise timing decision is made, then socially optimal timing is attained only if there is a cash payment element in the division of surplus. If the party that chooses the exercise timing can divert value from the project, then the first-best outcome may not be possible at all and the second-best outcome may be implemented using a contract that is generally not optimal in the former cases. Our framework contributes to the understanding of a range of empirical regularities in corporate and entrepreneurial finance
Why do some Chinese technology firms avoid ChiNext and go public in the US?
Some Chinese technology firms prefer to go public on US exchanges despite the launch of ChiNext as a NASDAQ-style board of the Shenzhen Stock Exchange in late 2009. Conventional hypotheses based on sales internationalization and issuing costs fail to explain this preference. Instead, our findings suggest the existence of a separating equilibrium in which small but profitable firms choose ChiNext and large firms backed by foreign venture capital prefer US exchanges as their IPO location. Our findings have broader implications for entrepreneurial finance in China. Policy suggestions are offered for increasing the number of foreign VC-backed IPOs on ChiNext
Non-Standard Errors
In statistics, samples are drawn from a population in a data-generating process (DGP). Standard errors measure the uncertainty in estimates of population parameters. In science, evidence is generated to test hypotheses in an evidence-generating process (EGP). We claim that EGP variation across researchers adds uncertainty: Non-standard errors (NSEs). We study NSEs by letting 164 teams test the same hypotheses on the same data. NSEs turn out to be sizable, but smaller for better reproducible or higher rated research. Adding peer-review stages reduces NSEs. We further find that this type of uncertainty is underestimated by participants
