The coastal concentration of tourism activities has been the main characteristics of the Mediterranean Countries. However, they are working on new approaches and solutions for the problems of coastal areas since they have faced a decrease in their high shares of the world tourism market. Although Turkey, as one of the Mediterranean Countries, is endowed with a variety of tourist attractions, it still does not receive the expected revenue from the tourism industry. Since the beginning of tourism planning in Turkey, the coastal regions have taken priority for tourism investments and not only the spatial pattern but also the socio-economic life of these regions have been transformed. According to the studies of the State Planning Organization (SPO) on socio-economic development level, coastal provinces along the Aegean and Mediterranean Seas, which have concentrated on tourism activities, indicate positive socio-economic development index values. In this paper, coastal-led development pattern of tourism is analyzed in Turkey based on the main indicators (tourism and economic development indicators). However, it seems that coastal tourism development pattern is similar for all the provinces, it will be examined if there are some clusters and typologies among them in terms of tourism development. After putting forward a historical perspective and descriptive frame for the coastal provinces and districts, the principal component analysis will be conducted in order to see the main components. The relationship between the trends of supply and demand side of tourism and the development level will be put forward in order to realize the significance of economic sustainability of tourism areas. Furthermore, the results will be evaluated considering tourism policy of Turkey and experiences of other Mediterranean Countries.

It was aimed to report the time spent outside and physical activity levels of lower extremity amputees and to investigate the relationship between prosthesis satisfaction and quality of life during COVID-19 outbreak and social isolation in Turkey. Material and Methods: Seventy-seven (F:18, M:59) individuals with different levels of lower extremity amputation participated in the study. Time spent outside, physical activity level (International Physical Activity Questionnaire - IPAQ), quality of life (Nottingham Health Profile Scale - NHPS) and prosthesis satisfaction (Trinity Amputation and Prosthesis Experience Scale - TAPES) were questioned via an online questionnaire during social isolation. Results: The frequency of individuals going out during the isolation process (day/week) was 40.3% (1-3 days), 24.7% (3-5 days) and 35.1% (5-7 days). It was determined that IPAQ scores and NHPS and TAPES sub- parameters were correlated (p<0.05). A statistically significant difference was found in NHP physical activity scores and compliance with TAPES restriction, in the results of physical activity restriction, weight satisfaction and functional satisfaction between the categories of time spent outside during social isolation (p<0.05). Discussion: It was found that the decrease in physical activity during social isolation due to the Covid-19 pandemic resulted in a decrease in the quality of life and prosthesis satisfaction of amputees. It was observed that the increase in the time spent outside during social isolation made a difference on quality of life and prosthesis satisfaction

Athletes must develop not only their physical and motor capabilities but also their visual and perceptual-cognitive skills to support their performance. This study investigated the effects of oculomotor exercises (OMEs) on elite female volleyball players' dynamic visual acuity (DVA), balance, and vertical jump performance (VJP). Fifty-two female volleyball players were allocated to two groups: the intervention group (IG, n=26) that received OMEs twice a day, six days a week for four weeks in addition to their daily training, and the control group (CG, n=26) that, only continued their daily training. All participants were assessed with the Flamingo Balance Test (FBT), Y Balance Test (YBT), Clinical DVA Test, and Vertical Jump Test (VJT) before and after the study. After the study, FBT, DVA, and YBT posteromedial values in IG improved significantly, but VJP did not change. The results for CG showed no improvements. After the study only FBT score differences were found between the groups. OMEs in volleyball players can help to improve balance by improving DVA and balance. Future research should investigate the effects of volleyball-specific visual training on improving performance skills

It was aimed to report physical activity (PA) levels of young-adult individuals and investigate effect of PA on quality of life (QOL) during COVID-19 outbreak and public health restrictions in Turkey. Individuals included through online questionnaire consisting demographic information, PA, quality of life sections and social media during strictest public health restrictions. Among individuals, highest rate was inactive individuals, followed by minimally active, sufficiently active. According PA levels, QOL was different in terms of psychological domain (PD); PD of minimally active individuals was found to be higher than inactive individuals; PA was effective on PD. In pandemic processes, it was thought; it is necessary for governments to encourage public to PA, health professionals to guide public towards increasing, starting and maintaining FA especially in terms of protecting mental health. Process isn’t time for excessive exercise; performing moderate activities that will maintain their mental well-being will be more beneficial on QOL

ABSTRACT Objective: Ectopic thyroid tissue (ETT) is a rare abnormality of the thyroid gland and the true prevalence and importance is not known. The aim of this study was to evaluate ultrasonography (US) guided fine needle aspiration biposy (FNAB) results, sonographic features, and frequency of ETT detected in the midline of the neck. Subjects and methods: Five thousand five hundred and twenty outpatients who were referred to our thyroid clinic between September 2010 and April 2012 and underwent thyroid US, were retrospectively analyzed. Patients with ETT, detected in the midline of the neck in US were included in the study. Thyroid functions, sonographic features, and US guided FNAB results were evaluated. Results: There were 81 (81.8%) female and 18 (18.2%) male patients with a mean age of 50.9 ± 11.7. The ETT in the midline was present in 1.79% (99/5,520) of the patients. In the majority of the patients, benign sonographic features (isoechoic, regular margin, type 1 vascularization) were detected. There were 92 (92.9%) patients with a previous history of thyroidectomy and all were histopathologically benign. In 7 (7.1%) patients, there was no history of thyroid operation. FNAB results of ETT were benign. Conclusion: This study evaluated the importance of ETT detected incidentally in the midline of the neck. Especially in patients with a history of thyroidectomy, the thyroid masses in the midline of the neck can be found as incidental with imaging methods. Our results suggests that the incidence of malignancy in this group is much lower than orthotopic thyroid nodules and they are often benign. Arch Endocrinol Metab. 2016;60(3):231-

Design, Performance, and Calibration of the CMS Hadron-Outer Calorimeter

    Get PDF
The CMS hadron calorimeter is a sampling calorimeter with brass absorber and plastic scintillator tiles with wavelength shifting fibres for carrying the light to the readout device. The barrel hadron calorimeter is complemented with an outer calorimeter to ensure high energy shower containment in the calorimeter. Fabrication, testing and calibration of the outer hadron calorimeter are carried out keeping in mind its importance in the energy measurement of jets in view of linearity and resolution. It will provide a net improvement in missing \et measurements at LHC energies. The outer hadron calorimeter will also be used for the muon trigger in coincidence with other muon chambers in CMS

Differential cross section measurements for the production of a W boson in association with jets in proton–proton collisions at √s = 7 TeV

    Get PDF
Measurements are reported of differential cross sections for the production of a W boson, which decays into a muon and a neutrino, in association with jets, as a function of several variables, including the transverse momenta (pT) and pseudorapidities of the four leading jets, the scalar sum of jet transverse momenta (HT), and the difference in azimuthal angle between the directions of each jet and the muon. The data sample of pp collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of 7 TeV was collected with the CMS detector at the LHC and corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 5.0 fb[superscript −1]. The measured cross sections are compared to predictions from Monte Carlo generators, MadGraph + pythia and sherpa, and to next-to-leading-order calculations from BlackHat + sherpa. The differential cross sections are found to be in agreement with the predictions, apart from the pT distributions of the leading jets at high pT values, the distributions of the HT at high-HT and low jet multiplicity, and the distribution of the difference in azimuthal angle between the leading jet and the muon at low values.United States. Risk portfolio on modern finance has become increasingly technical, requiring the use of sophisticated mathematical tools in both research and practice. Since companies cannot insure themselves completely against risk, as human incompetence in predicting the future precisely that written in Al-Quran surah Luqman verse 34, they have to manage it to yield an optimal portfolio. The objective here is to minimize the variance among all portfolios, or alternatively, to maximize expected return among all portfolios that has at least a certain expected return. Furthermore, this study focuses on optimizing risk portfolio so called Markowitz MVO (Mean-Variance Optimization). Some theoretical frameworks for analysis are arithmetic mean, geometric mean, variance, covariance, linear programming, and quadratic programming. Moreover, finding a minimum variance portfolio produces a convex quadratic programming, that is minimizing the objective function ðð¥with constraintsð ð 𥠥 ðandð´ð¥ = ð. The outcome of this research is the solution of optimal risk portofolio in some investments that could be finished smoothly using MATLAB R2007b software together with its graphic analysis
