Correlations between stacked structures and weak itinerant magnetic properties of La Y Ni compounds
Hexagonal LaNi and rhombohedral YNi are weak itinerant
antiferromagnet (wAFM) and ferromagnet (wFM), respectively. The crystal
structure and magnetic properties of intermetallic compounds ( =
La, Y, = Ni) have been investigated combining X-ray powder diffraction and
magnetic measurements. The LaYNi intermetallic compounds with
crystallize in the CeNi-type hexagonal structure
with Y preferentially located in the [] units. The compounds with larger
Y content () crystallize in both hexagonal and rhombohedral
(GdCo-type) structures with a progressive substitution of Y for La in
the sites belonging to the [] units. YNi crystallizes in the
rhombohedral structure only. The average cell volume decreases linearly versus
Y content, whereas the c/a ratio presents a minimum at due to geometric
constrains. The magnetic properties are strongly dependent on the structure
type and the Y content. LaNi displays a complex metamagnetic behavior
with split AFM peaks. Compounds with x = 0.25 and 0.5 display a wAFM ground
state and two metamagnetic transitions, the first one towards an intermediate
wAFM state and the second one towards a FM state.T and the second critical
field increase with the Y content, indicating a stabilization of the AFM state.
LaYNi, which is as the boundary between the two structure types, presents a
very wFM state at low field and an AFM state as the applied field increases.
All the compounds with and containing a rhombohedral phase are wFM with
= 53(2) K. In addition to the experimental studies, first principles
calculations using spin polarization have been performed to interpret the
evolution of both structural phase stability and magnetic ordering for .Comment: 26 pages (7 for supplementary material), 4 tables, 9 main figures and

Plant-dominated assemblage and invertebrates from the lower Cenomanian of Jaunay-Clan, western France
International audienceTwo fossil localities are reported on the "LGV SEA" railroad from the Lower Cenomanianof Jaunay-Clan (JC), near Poitiers, western France. The laminated mudstones yielded plantfossils including ferns (Cladophlebis, Osmundophyllum, Ruffordia goeppertii, Sphenopteris),conifers (Brachyphyllum, Dammarophyllum, Pagiophyllum), and terrestrial and aquaticfreshwater angiosperms (Eucalyptolaurus depreii, Ploufolia). They are associated with acoleopteran insect that shows systematic affinities to the modern subfamily Chrysomeli-nae (Chrysomelidae). This assemblage suggests connections with arborescent vegetationgrowing in calm freshwater environment. Brackish to marine invertebrates also occurand include a dakoticancroid crab (Brachyura, Podotremata, Dakoticancroidea) and a fewbivalves (Brachidontes). They suggest brackish episodes during pond sedimentation in acoastal environment. Lastly, vertebrates are represented by an isolated feather
Dominant-negative mutations in human IL6ST underlie hyper-IgE syndrome
Autosomal dominant hyper-IgE syndrome (AD-HIES) is typically caused by dominant-negative (DN) STAT3 mutations. Patients suffer from cold staphylococcal lesions and mucocutaneous candidiasis, severe allergy, and skeletal abnormalities. We report 12 patients from 8 unrelated kindreds with AD-HIES due to DN IL6ST mutations. We identified seven different truncating mutations, one of which was recurrent. The mutant alleles encode GP130 receptors bearing the transmembrane domain but lacking both the recycling motif and all four STAT3-recruiting tyrosine residues. Upon overexpression, the mutant proteins accumulate at the cell surface and are loss of function and DN for cellular responses to IL-6, IL-11, LIF, and OSM. Moreover, the patientsâ heterozygous leukocytes and fibroblasts respond poorly to IL-6 and IL-11. Consistently, patients with STAT3 and IL6ST mutations display infectious and allergic manifestations of IL-6R deficiency, and some of the skeletal abnormalities of IL-11R deficiency. DN STAT3 and IL6ST mutations thus appear to underlie clinical phenocopies through impairment of the IL-6 and IL-11 response pathways
A seguir, alguns tĂłpicos importantes mereceram tratamento Ă parte: a fome, o alimento e o domĂnio religioso, as descobertas europĂ©ias e a difusĂŁo mundial de alimentos, gosto e gastronomia.
An attempt to clarify phylogenetic affinities of erymid lobsters (Decapoda) using morphological characters
A morphological-based phylogenetic analysis of a total of 33 species: 27 fossil species from eight families recognized prior to this work (Chimaerastacidae, Clytiopsidae, Erymidae, Glypheidae, Litogastridae, Nephropidae, Pemphicidae, Uncinidae), and 6 extant species from four families recognized prior to this work (Astacidae, Enoplometopidae, Nephropidae, Stenopodidae) is proposed. The cladistic analysis demonstrates that the erymid lobsters should be included with the other clawed lobsters within the infraorder Astacidea. Among Astacidea, we observed the structure recalling the intercalated plate of erymids in the extant Enoplometopus reported by Schram & Dixon. In order to test Schram & Dixon's hypothesis, we considered this structure as homologous to the intercalated plate. Our results suggest that the sharing of this character does not indicate close relationships between Enoplometopus and erymids. The erymid lobsters form a monophyletic group of six genera (Eryma, Enoploclytia, Palaeastacus, Pustulina, Stenodactylina, Tethysastacus) included in the superfamily: Erymoidea. The inclusion of a character recently identified, a delimited post-orbital area, in the morphological dataset led to the split of Erymoidea into two clades. This topology justifies a systematic rearrangement of erymid genera within two families: Enoploclytiidae fam.n., lacking a delimited post-orbital area (Enoploclytia, Pustulina), and Erymidae, showing a delimited post-orbital area. The Erymidae are also separated in two sub-families: the simplicity of the carapace groove pattern of Tethysastacus justifies its placement within Tethysastacinae subfam.n., while Eryma, Palaeastacus and Stenodactylina form the Eryminae
Improvement of reversible H storage capacity by fine tuning of the composition in the pseudo-binary systems A2-xLaxNi7 (A = Gd, Sm, Y, Mg)
International audienceA2B7 compounds (A = rare earth or Mg, B = transition metal) are widely studied as active materials for negative electrode in Ni-MH batteries. By playing on the substitution rate of both A and B elements, it is possible to prepare various compositions. This strategy will help to improve the properties, for example get a higher reversible hydrogen capacity and a well-adapted hydrogen sorption pressure. Indeed, A can be almost all light rare earths (La to Gd), yttrium and alkaline earth metals (Mg or Ca), whereas B can contain various late transition metals (Mn to Ni). To understand the effects of composition on the physicochemical properties of La2Ni7-based compound, various pseudo-binary systems have been investigated: Gd2-xLaxNi7 (x = 0, 0.6, 1, 1.5), Sm2-xLaxNi7 (x = 0, 0.5, 1, 1.5), Y2-xLaxNi7 (x = 0, 0.4, 0.5, 0.6, 0.8, 1, 1.5, 1.75) and A0.5La1.1Mg0.4Ni7 (A = Sm, Gd and Y). To determine their crystallographic properties, X-ray diffraction analysis was performed followed by Rietveld refinement. Thermodynamic properties regarding reversible hydrogen sorption were investigated at room temperature. Quaternary compounds present drastically improved sorption properties in the frame of practical energy storage applications with reversible capacity equivalent to 400 mAh/g for the compound La1.1Sm0.5Mg0.4Ni7
Investigation of H Sorption and Corrosion Properties of Sm2MnxNi7âx (0 †x < 0.5) Intermetallic Compounds Forming Reversible Hydrides
International audienceIntermetallic compounds are key materials for energy transition as they form reversible hydrides that can be used for solid state hydrogen storage or as anodes in batteries. AB y compounds (A = Rare Earth (RE); B = transition metal; 2 0.3 leading to larger and flatter isotherm curves, allowing for reversible capacity >1.4 wt %. Regarding corrosion, the binary compound corrodes in alkaline medium to form rare earth hydroxide and nanoporous nickel. As for the Mn-substituted compounds, a new corrosion product is formed in addition to those above mentioned, as manganese initiates a sacrificial anode mechanism taking place at the early corrosion stage
