With the emergence of the SARS-COV-2 pandemic in 2019, many doubts and uncertainties arose about the COVID-19 disease, many of them due to the thousands of fake-News, lack of information, little scientific research to prove the consequences of what would actually happen, from whether symptoms, forms of contagion, how each organism would react to the virus, about the effectiveness of masks and social isolation, but mainly about treatments against the new coronavirus. With all these doubts, some measures were taken to try to soften and resolve the situation; the so-called "KIT-COVID" (containing medicines, among them antibiotics) and today not recommended by the Ministry of Health, was one of the controversial measures that occurred in Brazil. The recommendation of the use of drugs without scientifically proven efficacy against the symptoms of COVID-19, caused the sales of antimicrobial drugs to double in different places in the country, including the city of Nanuque, MG, as demonstrated in this study. This increase in the use of antibiotics becomes worrisome, as it increases the probability of microbial resistance, transforming common bacteria into possible superbacteria, making it necessary to use increasingly potent antibiotics. Introduction: the immediate loading implant (ILI) is considered to offer many advantages for the patient and the clinician, maintaining the height of the soft tissues and increasing the peri-implant bone density. Also, ILI is associated with reductions in patient pain, time, and material, with success rates of 95 to 100% being reported. Objective: Therefore, the objective of the present systematic review study was to analyze the clinical success of the immediate loading technique, to present the indication criteria and the follow-up of the procedures. Methods: The rules of the Systematic Review-PRISMA Platform. The research was carried out in July 2019 to August 2021, with articles published in the last ten years, and developed based on Scopus, PubMed, Science Direct, Scielo, and Google Scholar. The quality of the studies was based on the GRADE instrument and the risk of bias was analyzed according to the Cochrane instrument. Results and Conclusion: A total of 114 articles were found involving the Immediate loading and single dental implants. A total of 94 articles were evaluated in full and 35 were included and evaluated in the present study. Considering the Cochrane tool for risk of bias, the overall assessment resulted in 30 studies with a high risk of bias, and 29 studies that did not meet the GRADE. The present systematic review study showed that the success rates with the ILI technique are compatible with those of the late load, as long as certain guidelines are followed that were divided into factors related to the patient, the surgical technique, the implant, the prosthesis, and to aesthetics. The high success rate is a consequence of the correct surgical and prosthetic planning, harmony between the implant system, patient, and dental surgeon. As for the region, currently, it can be said that ILI in total jaw rehabilitation is a procedure with high success rates that should and can be applied in all cases where the technique is efficient to provide adequate primary stability to the implants. Therefore, the technical improvement of the dentist becomes the main condition for this philosophy to be applied

There are few studies on the effects of fire on the seasonal semideciduous forest of the Cerrado region. This study aimed to assess the effect of fire on Semideciduous forest fragments located in the Altamiro Moura Pacheco State Park (AMPSP). The study area is located in the central state of Goiás. A total of 10 plots (50 x 20 m; 1,000 m2) were drawn in the remaining forests seeking to portray two areas: area which underwent forest fire (burned area; B) and unburned area (unburned; UB). A total of 771 individuals with DBH (≥ 5 cm) were identified. A total of 303 individuals were recorded in the burned area (B), comprising 28 families, 41 genera and 47 species, while the unburned area (UB) had 468 individuals comprising 25 families, 43 genera and 50 species. The species Anadenanthera colubrina (Vell.) Brenan, Emmotum nitens (Benth.), Zanthoxylum rhoifolium Lam, Tapirira guianensis Aubl., Myracrodruon urundeuva Allemão and Luehea candicans Mart. had the highest Importance Value Index (IVI) values and occur in both areas. The percentage of dead trees differed between the areas, where the burned area had a mortality of 12.69% and the unburned area of 7.29% in regards to the number of individuals. Density per plot was the only parameter that differed between the areas, where the burned area (B) had the lowest values. The fire affected all diameter classes, demonstrating the fragility of this vegetation type in regards to fire. The fire had a greater effect on trees in the smaller diameter classes, reducing the frequency of individuals in the burned area and changing height distribution, which may have favored the establishment of lianas and invasive species.

Labirintos da inclusão: a medicalização enquanto prática perversa na educação

    Get PDF

Kaposi?s sarcoma (KS) is an uncommon, multifocal and angioproliferative lesion, which demonstrates a poor prognosis. The aim of the present research was to explore the association of HIV viral load, CD4+ and CD8+ counts and the CD4+/CD8+ ratio on the risk of oral Kaposi?s sarcoma (KS) development. A total of 62 patients were retrieved from March 2008 to October 2020 from the files of two oral pathology centres. Clinical, laboratory and follow-up data were retrieved from their medical files. Poisson regression was used to explore the role of history of immunosuppression and its association with oral KS development. A P-value <0.05 was considered significant. Sixty-two patients were included in the present study (32 with oral KS and 30 with no presentation of lesions anywhere on the body). Patients with oral KS presented a mean age of 32.6 years, and male patients were more affected. The hard palate (15 cases; 46.8%) was the main anatomical site affected. The lesions were mostly presented as swellings (13 cases; 40.6%) and nodules (12 cases; 37.5%). Systemic manifestations were also observed, including candidiasis (4 cases; 12.5%), bacterial infection (3 cases; 9.3%), tuberculosis (3 cases; 9.3%), herpes simplex (3 cases; 9.3%) and pneumonia (3 cases; 9.3%). A significant correlation was observed between HIV viral load, CD4+ count and the CD4+/CD8+ ratio with oral KS development. HIV viral load, CD4+ count and the CD4+/CD8+ ratio are associated with oral KS development

Wild dogs at stake: deforestation threatens the only Amazon endemic canid, the short-eared dog (Atelocynus microtis)

The persistent high deforestation rate and fragmentation of the Amazon forests are the main threats to their biodiversity. To anticipate and mitigate these threats, it is important to understand and predict how species respond to the rapidly changing landscape. The short-eared dog Atelocynus microtis is the only Amazon-endemic canid and one of the most understudied wild dogs worldwide. We investigated short-eared dog habitat associations on two spatial scales. First, we used the largest record database ever compiled for short-eared dogs in combination with species distribution models to map species habitat suitability, estimate its distribution range and predict shifts in species distribution in response to predicted deforestation across the entire Amazon (regional scale). Second, we used systematic camera trap surveys and occupancy models to investigate how forest cover and forest fragmentation affect the space use of this species in the Southern Brazilian Amazon (local scale). Species distribution models suggested that the short-eared dog potentially occurs over an extensive and continuous area, through most of the Amazon region south of the Amazon River. However, approximately 30% of the short-eared dog's current distribution is expected to be lost or suffer sharp declines in habitat suitability by 2027 (within three generations) due to forest loss. This proportion might reach 40% of the species distribution in unprotected areas and exceed 60% in some interfluves (i.e. portions of land separated by large rivers) of the Amazon basin. Our local-scale analysis indicated that the presence of forest positively affected short-eared dog space use, while the density of forest edges had a negative effect. Beyond shedding light on the ecology of the short-eared dog and refining its distribution range, our results stress that forest loss poses a serious threat to the conservation of the species in a short time frame. Hence, we propose a re-assessment of the short-eared dog's current IUCN Red List status (Near Threatened) based on findings presented here. Our study exemplifies how data can be integrated across sources and modelling procedures to improve our knowledge of relatively understudied species
