    Development of a Procedure for Risk-Based Qualification of Additively Manufactured ‎Components: Adopting to Oil and Gas Industrial Applications

    Recent advances in additive manufacturing (AM) technology provide the potential for on-demand and rapid production of spare parts during urgent repair times. Recently, big oil and gas companies have shown early progress in using additive technology in manufacturing specific heat exchangers, downhole cleanout tool nozzles, offshore risers, gas turbine nozzles, and subsea chemical stick injection tools. Despite the mentioned progress, the current adoption level of additive technology for the offshore oil and gas industry is very limited. Non-destructive and destructive evaluation methods of additively manufactured metallic components have been studied extensively. However, the technique selection procedure and scope of the required test methods have not been studied sufficiently. This paper discusses various elements related to the qualification of additively manufactured components for application in the oil and gas industry.     Parasites in surgically removed appendices as a neglected public health concern: a systematic review and meta-analysis

    The role of various parasitic infections in the occurrence of appendicitis is illustrated through cases recorded all over the world. The purpose of the current study was to estimate the global prevalence of parasite infestation (other than E. vermicularis) in appendectomy specimens. In the setting of the PRISMA guidelines, multiple databases (Science Direct, Scopus, Web of Science, PubMed, and Google Scholar) were explored in articles published until 28 September 2020. Totally, 62 studies (106 datasets) with 77, 619 participants were included in the analysis. The pooled prevalence of parasites in appendectomy samples was as follows; 0.012% (95% CI; 0.004–0.025) for Ascaris lumbricoides, 0.004% (95% CI; 0.001–0.009) for Trichuris trichiura, 0.025% (95% CI; 0.007–0.052) for Schistosoma mansoni, 0.002% (95% CI; 0.001–0.005) for Taenia spp., 0.061% (95% CI; 0.020–0.122) for Entamoeba histolytica and 0.034% (95% CI; 0.018–0.056) for Giardia lamblia. Our results demonstrated that the risk of appendicitis may increase in the presence of helminth and protozoan infections. As such, the most cases of parasites in appendectomy specimens were reported in developing countries. Regular screening plans for diagnosis, treatment and prevention are needed for prevention of parasitic infection as well as parasitic associated appendicitis, especially in endemic regions of the world.     A Case Report of Tinea Capitis (Endothrix Type) in A 3 Year Old Boy Referred to Laboratory of Ali Ebne Abitaleb Hospital in Qom City (Iran)

    Background and Objectives: Endothrix type of tinea capitis is one of the variety of dermatophytic infections of hair and scalp, which is more prevalent in boys, especially the age group of 6-11 years. The important point is that the report of this infection has shown a significant reduction in recent years due to the growth of urban health indicators, so that it is considered as a rare case.   Case Report: The case was a 3-year-old boy with clinical signs of hair loss, broken hair, and black dots on the scalp along with inflammation, redness, dandruff, and itching at the lesion sites, who was referred to the laboratory of this treatment center in October 2016. According to the physician’s opinion, diagnostic mycology tests (direct and culture), were performed. By direct test and arthroconidia inside hair shaft, tinea capitis was diagnosed to be endothrix type, and by culture, the causative agent of the disease was diagnosed as Trichophyton violaceum. This rare case report, with regard to the possibility of infection and contagion in the nursery, can be a warning for the outbreak of dangerous fungal infections in urban communities, especially in facultys and nurseries.      &nbsp

    Sustainable Biomethane Production from Sewage Sludge and Wheat Straw Co-Digestion in the Presence of Polypyrrole Fe3O4 Nanoparticles and Alkaline Pretreatment: Life Cycle Assessment Point of View

    Biogas production from sewage sludge can be valued in different scenarios of energy usage such as the electricity, heating, and transportation system. Improving the energy production value is the main reason for using different ways such as alkaline pretreatment and nanoparticles (NPs). This investigation uses life cycle assessment (LCA) for evaluating the biomethane production from co-digestion of sewage sludge and wheat straw in the presence of polypyrrole Fe3O4 nanoparticles (0, 20, 40, 60, and 80 mg) and NaOH alkaline pretreatment (0 and 5 mg) at mesophilic anaerobic digestion along with optimization for sustainable biomethane production. Results indicated that retention time (RT) and NaOH concentration had a significant effect on biomethane production. But, the effect of NP concentration on biomethane production was not significant. Also, the maximum biomethane production was obtained by NP40Na0 (about 50% higher than the control). On average, adding the NaOH and NPs improved the biomethane yield by about 25–40% vs in comparison with the control. The maximum biogas production yield was related to NP40Na0 with an enhancement of about 35% in comparison with the control. On average, adding nanoparticles and NaOH alkaline pretreatment improved the biogas production by about 10–20% in comparison with the control. Sustainable biomethane production can be obtained at an NP concentration of 50.24 mg and NaOH concentration of 24.04 mg, which increased the biomethane production by about 198%, and reduced human health, ecosystem quality, climate change, resources, and economic cost by about 87, 86, 92, 95, and 87%, respectively, in comparison with the control
