Discourse on women\u27s reproductive rights through the lens of Muslim culture. The use of contraception, assisted fertility and abortion, are analyzed in Iran and Afghanistan. The culture surrounding family planning is detailed through a woman’s community, family, religion and the laws that govern the society they live in, which all influence her decision making in these matters. This piece stands as a cultural analysis of women\u27s agency specifically in Middle Eastern Muslim culture, as it stands as a part of a global women\u27s rights movement

Patients\u27 Rights to Access their Medical Records: An Argument for Uniform Recognition of a Right of Access in the United States and Australia

This Note addresses the issue of a patient\u27s right to access her own medical records in the United States and Australia. Part I discusses the background of a right of patient access to medical records through case law in the United States. Part I gives a historical perspective on US and Australian legislation regarding access to medical records. Part II reviews commentary both for and against access in the United States and in Australia. Part II focuses on legal arguments from the recent decision concerning patient access to medical records by the Australian courts in Breen v. Williams. Further, Part II also briefly examines jurisprudence with respect to access rights in Canada and the United Kingdom. Part III argues that the United States and Australia should follow the international trend and grant access to medical records through legislation. Finally, this Note concludes that a right of access would not only be fairer to patients and improve the physician-patient relationship, but also would facilitate transnational legal actions where medical records are required but the countries\u27 laws differ on the right of access. Australia and the United States, either on the federal level or uniformly on the state level, should adopt legislation providing for a right of patient access to medical records

Experiences of e-safety within primary school education

This research aims to establish what the current e-safety teaching strategies are within primary schools in England in relation to the National Curriculum and current office for standards in education (OFSTED) guidelines. The project focuses on up to three primary schools in Northamptonshire and Buckinghamshire where relationships have been established to identify how e-safety is approached and where it is adequately addressed and/or taught. During the initial stage of the project teachers will be interviewed and observed at the heart of this environment within their primary school setting. The intention of the initial study is to inform and direct subsequent research involving children within each particular school. The second stage of the project will establish what impact the current teaching strategies have on the children and the messages that are being received, interpreted and understood by them. The results of both studies will establish how effective the current teaching strategies are and their impact on young children to provide the necessary evidence to influence key stakeholders and make recommendations and support for an improved strategy and consistent approach to e-safety in primary schools in England

Brief review of contemporary sexual offence and child sexual abuse legislation in Australia

Abstract: This report provides an overview of the offences that an individual who sexually abuses a child in an institutional setting may be charged with in the nine Australian jurisdictions. These include contact and non-contact sexual offences, child pornography offences and offences for which institutions and/or their representatives that were aware of child sexual abuse may be charged

Marriage penalties, marriage, and cohabitation

I examine the effect of marriage penalties in the US income tax system on marital status. I construct a simulated instrument that exploits variation in the tax code over time and between US states to deal with potential endogeneity between the marriage penalty a couple faces and their marital status. I find that a $1000 increase in the marriage penalty faced reduces the probability of marriage by 1.7 percentage points, an effect four times larger than previously estimated. Those in the lowest education groups respond by as much as 2.7 percentage points, with the average response declining as education increases.marriage; cohabitation; marriage penalty
