    Head Mounted Projection Display with a Wide Field of View

    A ultra-wide field of view head mounted display has been realized by integrating an ARC display component having a greater than about 70 degrees field of retro-reflection with an optical tiling display which provides a greater than about 80 degrees horizontal field of view by about 50 degrees vertical field of view whereby an overall binocular horizontal field of view greater than about 120 degrees is realized with a greater resolution than about 2 arc minutes. There is also taught a method of providing a wide field of view head mounted display by the steps of: combining an ARC display component and an optical tiling display; and, integrating said component and said tiling display whereby an overall field of view greater than about 120 degrees is realized

    Internet banking acceptance model: Cross-market examination

    This article proposes a revised technology acceptance model to measure consumers’ acceptance of Internet banking, the Internet Banking Acceptance Model (IBAM). Data was collected from 618 university students in the United Kingdom and Saudi Arabia. The results suggest the importance of attitude, such that attitude and behavioral intentions emerge as a single factor, denoted as “attitudinal intentions” (AI). Structural equation modeling confirms the fit of the model, in which perceived usefulness and trust fully mediate the impact of subjective norms and perceived manageability on AI. The invariance analysis demonstrates the psychometric equivalence of the IBAM measurements between the two country groups. At the structural level, the influence of trust and system usefulness on AI vary between the two countries, emphasizing the potential role of cultures in IS adoption. The IBAM is robust and parsimonious, explaining over 80% of AI

    Extended Gauge Theories in Euclidean Space with Higher Spin Fields

    The extended Yang-Mills gauge theory in Euclidean space is a renormalizable (by power counting) gauge theory describing a local interacting theory of scalar, vector, and tensor gauge fields (with maximum spin 2). In this article we study the quantum aspects and various generalizations of this model in Euclidean space. In particular the quantization of the pure gauge model in a common class of covariant gauges is performed. We generalize the pure gauge sector by including matter fermions in the adjoint representation of the gauge group and analyze its N=1 and N=2 supersymmetric extensions. We show that the maximum half-integer spin contained in these fermion fields in dimension 4 is 3/2. Moreover we develop an extension of this theory so as to include internal gauge symmetries and the coupling to bosonic matter fields.     The Child Brain Computes and Utilizes Internalized Maternal Choices

    As children grow, they gradually learn how to make decisions independently. However, decisions like choosing healthy but less-tasty foods can be challenging for children whose self-regulation and executive cognitive functions are still maturing. We propose a computational decision-making process in which children estimate their mother's choices for them as well as their individual food preferences. By employing functional magnetic resonance imaging during real food choices, we find that the ventromedial prefrontal cortex (vmPFC) encodes children's own preferences and the left dorsolateral prefrontal cortex (dlPFC) encodes the projected mom's choices for them at the time of children's choice. Also, the left dlPFC region shows an inhibitory functional connectivity with the vmPFC at the time of children's own choice. Our study suggests that in part, children utilize their perceived caregiver's choices when making choices for themselves, which may serve as an external regulator of decision-making, leading to optimal healthy decisions

    An empirical investigation of dance addiction

    Although recreational dancing is associated with increased physical and psychological well-being, little is known about the harmful effects of excessive dancing. The aim of the present study was to explore the psychopathological factors associated with dance addiction. The sample comprised 447 salsa and ballroom dancers (68% female, mean age: 32.8 years) who danced recreationally at least once a week. The Exercise Addiction Inventory (Terry, Szabo, & Griffiths, 2004) was adapted for dance (Dance Addiction Inventory, DAI). Motivation, general mental health (BSI-GSI, and Mental Health Continuum), borderline personality disorder, eating disorder symptoms, and dance motives were also assessed. Five latent classes were explored based on addiction symptoms with 11% of participants belonging to the most problematic class. DAI was positively associated with psychiatric distress, borderline personality and eating disorder symptoms. Hierarchical linear regression model indicated that Intensity (ß=0.22), borderline (ß=0.08), eating disorder (ß=0.11) symptoms, as well as Escapism (ß=0.47) and Mood Enhancement (ß=0.15) (as motivational factors) together explained 42% of DAI scores. Dance addiction as assessed with the Dance Addiction Inventory is associated with indicators of mild psychopathology and therefore warrants further research

    Defect-Free Axially Stacked GaAs/GaAsP Nanowire Quantum Dots with Strong Carrier Confinement

    Axially stacked quantum dots (QDs) in nanowires (NWs) have important applications in nanoscale quantum devices and lasers. However, there is lack of study of defect-free growth and structure optimization using the Au-free growth mode. We report a detailed study of self-catalyzed GaAsP NWs containing defect-free axial GaAs QDs (NWQDs). Sharp interfaces (1.8-3.6 nm) allow closely stack QDs with very similar structural properties. High structural quality is maintained when up to 50 GaAs QDs are placed in a single NW. The QDs maintain an emission line width of <10 meV at 140 K (comparable to the best III-V QDs, including nitrides) after having been stored in an ambient atmosphere for over 6 months and exhibit deep carrier confinement (∼90 meV) and the largest reported exciton-biexciton splitting (∼11 meV) for non-nitride III-V NWQDs. Our study provides a solid foundation to build high-performance axially stacked NWQD devices that are compatible with CMOS technologies

    GaAsP nanowires containing intentional and self-forming quantum dots

GaAsP nanowires (NWs) containing a range of different heterostructures are shown to be a highly promising system for the fabrication of efficient and novel ultra-small light emitters. NWs containing GaAs radial quantum wells (QWs) have emission with high thermal stability, due to both large electron and hole confinement potentials. A structure containing three QWs exhibits very low threshold lasing at low temperatures. Within the GaAsP central region of the same NW, the formation of quantum wires (QWRs) on three of the six vertices is observed, these QWRs are aligned parallel to the NW axis. The presence of twins causes a 180° rotation of the crystal about the growth axis, breaking the QWRs into short sections which may act as quantum dots (QDs). Optical studies of the NWs support the formation of optically active QWRs and QDs. In a second type of NW, during growth of the GaAsP NW core the introduction of a short GaAs section forms a QD. The inclusion of up to 50 QDs with high structural and optical quality is shown to be possible; indicating the potential for the fabrication of QD lasers. A structure with only one QD exhibits a single sharp emission line and behavior consistent with single exciton recombination. The addition of passivation layers, grown as a shell on the NW core, is shown to be essential in obtaining good optical properties. Our studies hence demonstrate that GaAsP-GaAs NWs containing heterostructures have significant potential for a range of novel light emitting applications

    While evidence-based medicine (EBM) has advanced medical practice, the health care system has been inconsistent in translating EBM into improvements in health. Disparities in health and health care play out through patients' limited ability to incorporate the advances of EBM into their daily lives. Assisting patients to self-manage their chronic conditions and paying attention to unhealthy community factors could be added to EBM to create a broader paradigm of evidence-based health. A perspective of evidence-based health may encourage physicians to consider their role in upstream efforts to combat socially patterned chronic disease

    This is a case study of the exploitation and experience of Disney's animated feature films from the 1930s to the 1980s in Ghent (Belgium). It is a historical study of programming practices and financial strategies which constructed childhood memories on watching Disney. The study is a contribution to a historical understanding of the implications of global distribution of film as cultural products and the counter pull of localism. Using a multi-method approach, the argument is made that the scarce screenings were strategically programmed to uplift the moviegoing experience into something out of the ordinary in everyday life. Programming and revenue data characterize the screenings as exclusive and generating high intakes. Consequently, the remembered screenings did not exhale an easy accessible social status nor an image of pervasiveness of popular childhood film, contradictory to conventional accounts of Disney's ubiquity in popular culture

    Robot-Assisted Radical Prostatectomy in a Patient with a Preexisting Three-Piece Inflatable Penile Prosthesis

    We report a rare case of robot-assisted laparoscopic radical prostatectomy (RARP) in a patient with a preexisting penile prosthesis. In this case, we completed RARP without removing the reservoir by using a deflation-inflation technique, and there were no complications related to the prosthesis. The patient had a negative surgical margin. The preserved three-piece inflatable penile prosthesis continued to function properly in 1 month. Reservoir-preserving RARP is technically feasible and safe. However, it is important to be aware of device-related complications. Long-term studies on the mechanical survival rate and patient satisfaction should be also performed
