Even though it is a common type of cancer, it can be treated successfully and itsmortality rate can ce reduced through early detection as it is typically a slow growing disease. Thus, developing and implementing trainingprograms supported by models in order to raise awareness regarding breast cancer early detection behaviors and to ensure that thesebehaviors are performed regularly are considerably effective. Health Belief Model is the most common model used to make women developbreast cancer early detection behaviors. On the other hand, although it is not frequently employed in breast cancer early detection behaviors,Health Promotion Model is of crucial importance in explaining the health protection and promotion behaviors. Objective of this review studyis to conduct a literature review that reveals the effects of Health Belief Model (HBM) and Health Promotion Model (HPM) on breast cancerearly detection behaviors by making necessary explanations concerning these models

Bireylerin kültürel inançları meme kanseri erken tanı uygulamalarına yönelik yarar ve engel algısını, dolayısı ile erken tanı davranışlarını sürdürmelerini etkilemektedir. Bireylerin kültürel özelliklerini, gereksinimlerini saptamak ve bakım vermek hemşirelikte değişik modeller ve teorilerle açıklanmaya çalışılmıştır. Bu çalışmanın amacı meme kanseri erken tanı davranışlarına yönelik yapılan odak grup görüşmelerinde kültürün etkisini açıklamak ve bunu Leininger'in Kültürel Bakım Farklılık ve Evrensellik Teorisi ile ilişkilendirmektir. Cultural beliefs of individuals affect their perceptions of benefit and obstacle aimed at the early diagnosis applications of breast cancer and consequently the sustainment of early diagnosis behaviours. The determination of cultural features and needs of individuals and procurement of care were tried to be explained through different models and theories in nursing. The objective of this study is to explain the effect of culture upon focus group discussions aimed at the early diagnosis behaviours of breast cancer and associate this with Leininger's Cultural Care: Diversty and Universality Theory

Objective: Aim of this study was to examine immature granulocyte/total granulocyte (IG/TG) ratio for prediction of return of spontaneous circulation (ROSC) and early mortality in post cardiac arrest survivors. Methods: The study was carried out prospectively between January 2021 and January 2022. Non-traumatic out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA), over the age of 18 and non-pregnant were included. Patients’ whose IG levels were not studied, with hematological disease and who receiving immunosuppressive therapy were excluded. A palpable pulsation of the main arteries for at least 15 minutes was considered ROSC. Data were compared between the<4 hour and ≥4 hour survival groups and patients with and without ROSC. Results: Total of 254 OHCA patients were included in the study. ROSC was achieved in 84 (33.1%) of these patients and 170 (66.9%) patients were died. There were 28 patients (33.3%) with survival of <4 hours and 56 patients (66.7%) with survival of ≥4 hours in patients    with ROSC. The IG count and IG/TG ratio did not differ significantly between the ROSC groups and  between the groups separated by survival time (P>0.05). Conclusion: We found                  no significant differences between subgroups defined according to survival duration. Similarly, no differences found between OHCA patients with and without sustained ROSC

Hepatoprotective actions of melatonin by mainly modulating oxidative status and apoptosis rate in lipopolysaccharide-induced liver damage

Aim: One of the serious complications of sepsis is liver damage and liver failure. This study aimed to evaluate the protective and therapeutic potential of melatonin in rats with lipopolysaccharide-induced sepsis. Main methods: Female Spraque–Dawley rats received single a dose of 7.5 mg/kg lipopolysaccharide in saline to create a 24-h sepsis model. One of the other groups received melatonin at a dose of 10 mg/kg/day beginning 1 week before sepsis induction to the end of the experiment. The melatonin group received the same doses of melatonin for the same duration but not lipopolysaccharide. The vehicle group received the same doses of saline, the vehicle of melatonin, for the same duration. Twenty-four hours after the last injection, the rats were decapitated. By appropriate histochemical, immunohistochemical, biochemical, and molecular techniques, anti-necrotic, anti-apoptotic, anti-necroptotic, anti-inflammatory, and antioxidant effects of melatonin were assessed. Key findings: Lipopolysaccharide has disrupted liver functions by inducing oxidative stress, inflammation, necrotic, apoptotic, and necroptotic cell death, thus disrupting liver functions. Melatonin was found to be beneficial in terms of inhibiting the intrinsic pathway of apoptosis and tissue oxidant levels, stimulating tissue antioxidant enzyme levels, and restoring hepatocyte functions. Significance: Melatonin, at those doses and duration, was found to be hepatoprotective by mainly modulating oxidative status and apoptosis rate, however, failed to significantly reduce histopathological damage. We suggest that longer-term melatonin administration may produce anti-inflammatory and anti-necrotic effects as well. © 2023 Informa UK Limited, trading as Taylor & Francis Group

Sunn pest (Eurygaster integriceps Put.) is one of the most important pests of wheat in Eastern Europe including Turkey, West and Cen-tral Asia. Its damage on leaves, stems, spikes and grains reduce the baking quality of flour made from damaged grains. In this study, some wheat genotypes from Turkey and ICARDA were evaluated for the pest resistance. The genotypes were planted in a randomized block design using hill plots in nylon mesh screening cages in wheat growing season of 2011-2012 and 2012-2013. Sunn pest population was collected from Çanakkale province, where the pest was intensely found in recent years. The plants of each hill plots were infested with one male and one female Sunn pest adults. The results with 12.5% sucking damage showed that the genotypes from ICARDA had higher resistance than the landraces from Turkey to Sunn pest. Especially, the genotypes IC3 and IC4 from ICARDA and TR7 from Turkey with respect to their SED and DSED values were found the most promising genotypes resistant to Sunn pest for future breeding programs

The purpose of this study was to determine herbal therapies used by the patients for regulation of blood pressure. This descriptive study was conducted in three districts of Izmir, Turkey. The study group included 193 patients with hypertension diagnosis who admitted to a primary care center and accepted to participate in the study. Data were collected through an investigator-made questionnaire including questions about socio-demographic features and herbal therapies used for regulation of blood pressure. Percentiles and chi–square statistics tests were used to evaluate the data through SPSS 11.0 program. The subjects included in the study had suffered from hypertension for 8.28+7.92 years, and 95.9% of them received medication to treat their hypertension. Of all hypertensive patients, 51.3% used herbal therapies for the treatment of hypertension. The patients used herbal therapies most commonly when they felt ill. There were no statistically significant difference between the use of herbal therapies and gender, education, marital status, having health insurance and income level. Health professionals who provide primary health services, especially nurses, need to follow patients regularly and provide patient education on antihypertensive therapy. Nurses must plan the necessary training programs by evaluating the data about, whether the hypertension patients use herbal therapies that can affect their health negatively or not

MUSiC : a model-unspecific search for new physics in proton-proton collisions at root s=13TeV

    Get PDF
Results of the Model Unspecific Search in CMS (MUSiC), using proton-proton collision data recorded at the LHC at a centre-of-mass energy of 13 TeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 35.9 fb(-1), are presented. The MUSiC analysis searches for anomalies that could be signatures of physics beyond the standard model. The analysis is based on the comparison of observed data with the standard model prediction, as determined from simulation, in several hundred final states and multiple kinematic distributions. Events containing at least one electron or muon are classified based on their final state topology, and an automated search algorithm surveys the observed data for deviations from the prediction. The sensitivity of the search is validated using multiple methods. No significant deviations from the predictions have been observed. For a wide range of final state topologies, agreement is found between the data and the standard model simulation. This analysis complements dedicated search analyses by significantly expanding the range of final states covered using a model independent approach with the largest data set to date to probe phase space regions beyond the reach of previous general searches.Peer reviewe
