Introduction: The Andalusian Public Health System is made up of a public care network that has 63 hospitals, 1,500 primary care centers, 5 health research institutes, and other non-care public entities, mainly management and training institutions. RISalud-ANDALUCIA, the Institutional Repository of the Andalusian Public Health System is a unique and open space where the intellectual and scientific production generated by the professionals of the Andalusian Public Health System is gathered, as a result of their assistance, research and management activity. Objective: Development of a new version of RISalud-ANDALUCIA which implies a new software upgrade and functional improvement. Methodology RISalud-ANDALUCIA, was launched in February 2013. In 2022, the Andalusian Public Health Library, BV-SSPA (its administrator), started a project to develop it and migrate to a new version of DSpace. This project meant a big challenge due to the wide network of centers and institutions, and the large number of activities that needed to be carried out: 4. Identification of research, institutional output from 2016 to 2022 5. Bulk upload 6. Migration to DSpace 7.3 7. Functionalities for Datasets 8. New organization in three big communities 9. Connection with other structures and platforms 10. Incorporation of new COAR vocabulary and terms 11. New corporate image Results: Once all these functionalities are implemented, RISalud-ANDALUCIA will be the platform where the research and institutional open access output of more than 100,000 health professionals will be Findable, Accessible, Interoperable and Reusable. We estimate that would be possible by the end of October 2023

Density Waves Excited by Low-Mass Planets in Protoplanetary Disks I: Linear Regime

Density waves excited by planets embedded in protoplanetary disks play a central role in planetary migration and gap opening processes. We carry out 2D shearing sheet simulations to study the linear regime of wave evolution with the grid-based code Athena, and provide detailed comparisons with the theoretical predictions. Low mass planets (down to ~0.03 Earth mass at 1 AU) and high spatial resolution (256 grid points per scale height) are chosen to mitigate the effects of wave nonlinearity. To complement the existing numerical studies, we focus on the primary physical variables such as the spatial profile of the wave, torque density, and the angular momentum flux carried by the wave, instead of secondary quantities such as the planetary migration rate. Our results show percent level agreement with theory in both physical and Fourier space. New phenomena such as the change of the toque density sign far from the planet are discovered and discussed. Also, we explore the effect of the numerical algorithms, and find that a high order of accuracy, high resolution, and an accurate planetary potential are crucial to achieve good agreement with the theory. We find that the use of a too large time-step without properly resolving the dynamical time scale around the planet produces incorrect results, and may lead to spurious gap opening. Global simulations of planet migration and gap opening violating this requirement may be affected by spurious effects resulting in e.g. the incorrect planetary migration rate and gap opening mass.Comment: single column, 44 pages, 12 figures, ApJ in press, minor corrections mad

Identification of direct residue contacts in protein-protein interaction by message passing

Understanding the molecular determinants of specificity in protein-protein interaction is an outstanding challenge of postgenome biology. The availability of large protein databases generated from sequences of hundreds of bacterial genomes enables various statistical approaches to this problem. In this context covariance-based methods have been used to identify correlation between amino acid positions in interacting proteins. However, these methods have an important shortcoming, in that they cannot distinguish between directly and indirectly correlated residues. We developed a method that combines covariance analysis with global inference analysis, adopted from use in statistical physics. Applied to a set of >2,500 representatives of the bacterial two-component signal transduction system, the combination of covariance with global inference successfully and robustly identified residue pairs that are proximal in space without resorting to ad hoc tuning parameters, both for heterointeractions between sensor kinase (SK) and response regulator (RR) proteins and for homointeractions between RR proteins. The spectacular success of this approach illustrates the effectiveness of the global inference approach in identifying direct interaction based on sequence information alone. We expect this method to be applicable soon to interaction surfaces between proteins present in only 1 copy per genome as the number of sequenced genomes continues to expand. Use of this method could significantly increase the potential targets for therapeutic intervention, shed light on the mechanism of protein-protein interaction, and establish the foundation for the accurate prediction of interacting protein partners.Comment: Supplementary information available on http://www.pnas.org/content/106/1/67.abstrac

Uma abordagem vygotskyana para a conscientização de cidadania em sala de aula no Ensino Fundamental

    Get PDF

Correlation between Macular Neovascularization (MNV) Type and Druse Type in Neovascular Age-Related Macular Degeneration (AMD) Based on the CONAN Classification

To investigate associations and predictive factors between macular neovascularization (MNV) lesion variants and drusen types in patients with treatment-naïve neovascular age-related macular degeneration (AMD). Methods: Multimodal imaging was retrospectively reviewed for druse type (soft drusen, subretinal drusenoid deposits (SDDs) or mixed) and MNV type (MNV 1, MNV 2, MNV 1/2 or MNV 3). The Consensus on Neovascular AMD Nomenclature (CONAN) classification was used for characterizing MNV at baseline. Results: One eye of each eligible patient was included (n = 191). Patients with predominant SDDs had an increased adjusted odds ratio (aOR) for MNV 2 (23.4453, p = 0.0025) and any type of MNV 3 (8.7374, p < 0.0001). Patients with MNV 1/2 had an aOR for predominant SDDs (0.3284, p = 0.0084). Patients with MNV1 showed an aOR for SDDs (0.0357, p < 0.0001). Eyes with SDDs only without other drusen types showed an aOR for MNV 2 (9.2945, p < 0.0001). Conclusions: SDDs represent a common phenotypic characteristic in AMD eyes with treatment-naïve MNV. The aOR for eyes with predominant SDDs to develop MNV 2 and MNV 3 was much higher, possibly due to their location in the subretinal space. The predominant druse type may help to predict which type of MNV will develop during the course of AMD

A flexible integrative approach based on random forest improves prediction of transcription factor binding sites

Transcription factor binding sites (TFBSs) are DNA sequences of 6-15 base pairs. Interaction of these TFBSs with transcription factors (TFs) is largely responsible for most spatiotemporal gene expression patterns. Here, we evaluate to what extent sequence-based prediction of TFBSs can be improved by taking into account the positional dependencies of nucleotides (NPDs) and the nucleotide sequence-dependent structure of DNA. We make use of the random forest algorithm to flexibly exploit both types of information. Results in this study show that both the structural method and the NPD method can be valuable for the prediction of TFBSs. Moreover, their predictive values seem to be complementary, even to the widely used position weight matrix (PWM) method. This led us to combine all three methods. Results obtained for five eukaryotic TFs with different DNA-binding domains show that our method improves classification accuracy for all five eukaryotic TFs compared with other approaches. Additionally, we contrast the results of seven smaller prokaryotic sets with high-quality data and show that with the use of high-quality data we can significantly improve prediction performance. Models developed in this study can be of great use for gaining insight into the mechanisms of TF binding

MANEJO DE LA APENDICITIS AGUDA EN LAS EDADES EXTREMAS DE LA VIDA

    Get PDF
